  1. Hello folks. I don't know if you've experienced this yet, but for sure you've got to know to deal and fight with the hated openGl alpha bug. What I found out playing with texture settings and the new features introduced in the new V3 viewer is that finally Lindenlab fixed the openGL alpha BUG. The classic way that SL sees alpha texture is blending mode, but if you switchto mask mode with some tweak on cut off you can defeat that bad bug. I show you below the pictures. The new tos risks really to be a bad exploit for your intellectual property: the part where they say that they could take your product and even resell parts of it lets you puke. It seems also that they're washing their hands against cb attempt cause also in the 2.3 it says so: [....Linden Lab has no obligation to monitor or enforce your intellectual property rights to your User Content, but you grant us the right to protect and enforce our rights to your User Content, including by bringing and controlling actions in your name and on your behalf (at Linden Lab’s cost and expense, to which you hereby consent and irrevocably appoint Linden Lab as your attorney-in-fact, with the power of substitution and delegation, which appointment is coupled with an interest).....] This seems to be a way that they found to cover their Beeeeeeeppp. Why Well I am not blind and many of you are not either, maybe my mouth has less breaks than others. So if you go around you could se whole Games CD ripped exploited and brrought in SL .One for all the most used is Skyrim but also some games for Cars and bikes.Whole houses and furnitures. There are some medieval games where you could see this a lot, also some of those items ripped sold with a license that pretends to be real one,with subscriptions and registrations out of sl (like to say a stolen itel of class LOL) . The questoion is how could an item stolen from a pc game pretend to have a license in SL. If the bEtesda games for example would come in SL and start a legal action agains t that , don't you think that SL would be in huge problems? Don't forget also all those renderosity aficiodos, all those downloade and imported models had and have copyrights!!!! that's why prolly they don't want to monitor or enforce the intellectual property. The first part howevcer wouldn't be that bad I mean if they take our items and use them to check how good or bad they could be, if they delete the part where they say that they could resell even our items. For istance if they could do this with any toool scripted tools that are sold in SL this would be a good way to prehevent future attempt like REDzone was.   3. I'd use maya rather than its brother mudbox,. for something magic with sculpts I could tell you also there is 3dcoat. If you do mesh well mudbox is a great help to apply textures to your prim in a magic touch, if you're modeling from a photo. About use of sculpts regards what other say you do well. lately since mesh are out they all think " if it's mesh is better". That's not completely true. The old way can and must meet the new one. Imagine this example make a street with a lot of lights and their poles etc etc. imagine to make them mesh and with high detail. Well that scene as in a 3d program would suck on your card. no matter what trick you've used for physic to make those mesh count less on your sim, the graphic card still has to calculate more complex polygons.So in an example like this well you could make those light sculpts less detail less rendering and a SL still liveable for many.
  4. Hello secondlife-folk Here I am showing you what I found and what those who don't love 3d programs could still use to make normal maps for models. Not everyone can use a 3d program like maya , 3ds max or zbrush, to do those maps then here come some nice utility that will help those of you who buy full perm meshes to texture and still don't want to miss the chance to apply on them normal maps. I am going to show you a very cheap method to generate diffuse, normal and specular maps. This method of course might be not the best at all for those who know how to use well 3d professional software like maya or zbrush and so on but it would help a lot those who can't use those software and still want to buy and customize some full perm mesh models. If you've got a mesh model then you've got with it also the UVW map that is the field where you can paint or apply the texture. To let us understand each other better the UVW map is nothing different from the classic layers that we all have used to make clothes ( after all the sl avatar is a mesh itself and has been UVW mapped to get those templates ). Same would happen with any mesh. Now we have three textures to generate: 1) Diffuse map: we could call it ,even if it's not totally correct, the textureas that we've done painting (for those wwho know how to paint in 3d in maya or other software would see why this definition is not totaly correct), however it gives you the idea of what is the diffuse map. 2) Normal map : it's a new method to give models 3d depth. There would be other methods but not good. For istance before the Normal maps came out many mesh models used the displacement to give more details and deepth. The difference with a displacement map is that the displacement map requires a lot of polygons then much more rendering and so more lag (this is the reason what normals would allow better working meshes, for those who loves them with many details). The normal map starts from a relative low number of polygons giving you back the same results.The last method is the bump map ,which is an older way than the normal map to make a 3d effect on a surface but bump map lacks of accuracy, giving less details on your 3d depth .This is the reason what only the normal map simulates the directions of normals on the polygons of your 3d model,rendering more details. 3) specular map to give shininess on your model where it's needed.Consider that where it's white it'll be shiny where it goes grey or darker the shinyness gets lost. Now we'll see the basic way to generate a normal map and a specular map using a free tool, a plugion for photoshop. What I am going to show you is the Nvidia normal map plugin for photoshop ( it's totally free and working nicely ). First of all take a 2d texture that you want to render in 3d. Keep in mind that a 2d texture couldn't be converted into a normal map as it is,at least if you try that, you'd get not a clean job , but many rough spots on the surface. The concept to generate a normal map is that is should be generated from a greyscale texture and not a texture itself.This is why generating the normal map the programs will consider back as depth and white or grey as bumped surface (don't't forget the computers and softwares are powerful but dumb). Download and install the nvidia normal map plugin. Then open your photoshop and open the image that you want to use to generate your normal and specular maps. A brick wall is a good example to start your training, but yo could chose any image to create your normal map, also a baserelief if you want to transform some photo into it or a star, a flower and so on. Take your photo and generate a grey scale texture of it.In photoshop for this purpose you might use the hue and saturation and to give better defined details you might use also the level (ctrl +L or apple + L for mac). now take the grey scale image and save it as your specular then go to filters and then nvidia tool ,which will generate the normal map from the greyscale map. To generate it in the window set : - add height to normal map - filtertype =4 sample average RGB scale : set the value that lets you see a better bevel and emboss effect on the 2d map (in the photo I used 12 but you could select the proper value for each map) Done we have now a difffuse, a normal. A specular map is a black and white map where the white is the area of shininess and the black or grey areas are the ones without or with low shininess. So you could use on your photo some phoptoshop tools like thehue and saturation and the levels to define better details. once done it this way you can save it as DDS (using the nvidia tool function) and then use that DDS grey scale texture to make your normal map from it. It's always better to generate a normal map from a grey scale rather than a rough texture to avoid unwanted effect or rough look. Another thing about the specular map is that you don't always need to generate it in this way.As we said, the specular map is a black and white map of your texture, where is the dark there is no shining and viceversa. So you could also use a soft or hard brush to give your model more opacity when you need it and more shininess where it's needed, swapping from a white to a grey or black brush. To apply these maps simply edit your prim or mesh and then go to texture tab there you would find a top down menu with options : 1) diffuse 2) bumpiness( normal map) 3) specular Just drag and drop the maps in the texture square after that you've selected the proper feature from that drop down menu ( you can see this with more details from the wiki for normals I don't feel to make more photos about this, after all it's not anything new either you might know already those bump and shininess effect hence they were before also for old primitives , now say with mesh and normal and specular map w can add our owns customized). Other free tools like the nvidia plugin are: -the gimp normal maps plugin http://registry.gimp.org/node/69 -Ati tga2 dot3d ( standalone) Free programs to generate normal maps from textures: Ssbump generator http://sourceforge.net/projects/ssbumpgenerator/ shader map (demo ) http://shadermap.com/home/ X-Normal http://www.xnormal.net/1.aspx Away 3d http://away3d.com/ gimp plugin for normal maps http://registry.gimp.org/node/69 Not free programs: Crazy bump http://www.crazybump.com/ (the demo version still allows you to do al lot) Filterforge For those who would love to do it in 3d and with more control over the effects of each map Zbrush is a nice program.Sadly not free. Blender is freee but when you try other programs there is no go back.

  6. Hello What I am writing for most of you ( least the ones who haven't seen it before) might sound like scifi romance or something like that. I have seen , found and meet people who are able to track a resident and follow them on the grid. I have had such trolls doing this to me for a few . I have also to say that: I don't use third party viewers I don't use RLV I wear no scripted items/clothes What I wear is just my layer clothes and no scripted hair. The question is this how can they track avatars? is that some script? I see some spying **bleep**t on marketplace but I haven't dared to test them to know if that's really the item they use ( I won't support those lamers buying bs). Could it be that people who use hacked viewewer can do this too? I see from youtube that they could rezz prims in simulators where the rezzing is disabled. I suspect that it could be a lame viewer thatthey use. I suspect this hence the person doing this using her exercitus of alts ( that I know) is one who was able to do odd things by her viewer not possible for any standard legal viewer. Any sugestion to stop this lame stuff?

  8. provocative or no, irony or not irony. Why do you think that it'd be a bad world explain? After the 9/11 they have made youtube and mails much more restrtictive. It was not only a way to stop piracy it was a must. to prevent people using for istance youtube to proclaim bad stuff or to teach how to make things that could be used against mankind. A part the copybotters don't you think that the granted ANONIMITY could make a favour to some criminals, who could use virtual worlds to make strange projects to apply in a real scenario? More control could work also for that. Hence you like the irony.
  9. I'll try to be clearer and to let you figure out what through irony and provocative messages I wanted to let you all sort out. I had to be such a "beast" cause that's my way to let people sort out things teasing them badly. I am not that naive in SL as you may think and I am all but the tyrant that prolly you think I am reading quickly my messages without trying to understand the biter irony behind them This thread started with another victim of CB attempt, there have been a few of them, scroling the fora posts in last few days. Now what I mean to let you point out is 1)all those nagging messages about stealing and stuff are pointless hence the system allows in a way or another this to happen 2)Hoping to get justice through a DMCA each time that someone screams "the wolf the wolf" it's pointless and too much expensive.Plus consider this that in a DMCA not always things might go as you hope even if you're in good faith. 3) As you see, you can't get your wife drunk and your barrel with your best wine still full (maybe this metaphore is got better than the one about losses in war). People loves to nag about CB but then if you let them think about the real iussue and if you let them consider that the only solution would be an austerity policy, really drastic one, then someone would nag even more. That's life and life is made of choices The only solution would be just stopping nagging or making a 3rd World War to stop the piracy ( this is why I liked to fit the tyrant's the shoes while teasing people; I don't know if any of you all has figured this out,which is the point). I've been hanging lately in Open grid , acting like a journalist undercover somehow, bieng blond when needed and not blonde when not needed and things you could find out and know there are something that is euphemism , if I call it huge. A part that you could find places where you see the exact reporduction of SL items but the maker are not same if you ask them, in some cases if you get a vanitous personality they would also brag about their bad actions. I'd suggest you to do a similar experience of course now let waters be quiet cause after all this I bet there is red alarm everywhere haha. Do it be Journalist for a day.
  10. hi, Well perrie I am not saying that therre is A who is better than B , don't let me appear as I said something that you only want to interpret in those words. What I want to mean is we are all in the Global era, it's Globalization , we have to adapt to this, things can't change. If now marketing asks us to have ways to interact with other countries in a globalized way and if credit cards are part of it, we must have compatible credit cards. Same way as English and now Chinese became the world principal languages, this wouldn't mean that people couldn't use anymore local languages, but thogether with it they must learn least or English or Chinese. Do you get the point? Justify as someone said that restrictive measure woudn't be possible only cause some people couldn't get a proper payment credit card system is weak as excuse. Also because there are alternative methods that those countries, where credit cards don't work, ould be used as they already are doing.

For the OP ...and for really cheap, Cool Text is a good logo generator and editable in gimp. *quotes* cool effect !yeah that's what you can get but by Gimp limits in 3d I meant limits for 3d models, limits to draw in 3d clothes. Hovever I guess that would for Madeline a cool logo if she choose to become a Gimp-er too.
  13. Hi,Lilly Actually spam is rerally another plague. what you did sadly is the only thing you could have done. I also don't like lately some objects sending spam and asking to unsubscribe to go to an external site. I tell you my experience I had this with a quite notorious resident who ( I don't know why I don't know how) added me into his spam list. I never subscribed anything from his store, I didn't knew his store either, I didn't buy anything from him (not the kind of articles that I would have bought either though). However that pity message caming from the object wasn't stoppable I IM the owner and said "hey stop this spam or I make a list long like the Route 64" of reports for spam He said that he wasn't able to delete me from the list (0.o that's even more a pity thing) and that I had to touch a link and connect to a private site hosted on a private server (judging by the adress) to do it Which is not a nice thing to do nor a nice answer. Of course I don't risk to get on wild sites that can contain any treath so I just muted the object and it seemed to work. Try to do the same mute the owner, mute his/her objects and if from the spam message you got you can find the store adress, go there try to locate ( if it's there ) the object that sends the spam and mute it too. if that object asks you to connect to external sites don't do it for any reasons justmute mute mute.

  15. any war ny justice process need victims sometimes you need to lose something to get a bigger victory. no need to use a credit card they would wait till their 18 years old and get a bank account, or make a class action in their country to get similar cards. It's the world that has to bow to the system not the single communities that have to lead the head system. This is part of globalization process people must adapt!

Well virtual money or real ( hence then L$ are convertble in true money I don't see the difference) Plus do you still make these difference nowadays between rel and monopoli dollars? the whole world economyis based on bites, you are bites , your money are bites a click and poof you don't exist your money won't exist. the Wolrd economy based on a thing that made money become virtual in real workd too and its name is fractional reserve banking ( a thing that bakns have kept doing for the last half century or so). I am not pointing the question much on the money that is VIRTUAL in both worlds ,wake up!! I am point ing the spotlight on trackability LL wouldn't need to be a sheriff, they would just collect data that in case of a DMCA or whatever are easier to transmit to any autority requesting them. I also didn't say that it would be the final solution to copybotters, but this would surely make it harder for many of them. I mean with this making their life harder. They have to think twice before risking. Answer if you'd fit for a moment one fo those copybotter's shoes and you have given real data, adress pay info and such would you feel like ttrying the same an illegal act , knowing that the risk is bigger? Now a days it has become tooo easy I see even kiddos doing stuff like that , that's cause they're hanging out, as you cn see on youtube with grief viewer that make their illegal actions easier.
  17. @ sassy it could be a solution too. any solution that would discourage them from doing acts like that hovewer only by putting your items on marketplace as on your own site , if you post your photographic art work, makes you recognized as owner of the intellectual property ( a thing that many underestimate) if you write stories also for istance sending to yourself postal code a copy of the book and kept in your desk not open (would make it a proof of your copiright.... of course you can pay to get a license. I am just making an extremem provcative exemple about copyright. About phishing accounts that's another iussue, but here we're talking of avoiding the anonimity that allows criminals to persecute their illegal actions. That's why I was hitten so mych on pay info. only pay info or a cellular phone that would ask you a new password to entry ( for istance as some mail host propose now) can grtant you this. The phishing could be fixed in that way too associating to your acount a phone number ( a solution adopted now by manycompanies) I personally saw people opening for RP or otyher reasons quite futile a big amount of alt as easy as they could open a free mail account, accessing also to adult regions. That's not good that's what allow those criminal to keep doing what they do and to keepmaking victims like in this case Hacker has been.

It wouldn't be a change that would stop residents from building or from selling or buying items. everybody nowadays has a cellular phone and a credit card ALSO TEENAGERS (there arer teen cards pretty much used by them on internet also for other games they play) That's a request to enforce legality and push down illegal pirates that keep doing bad things like the one that has made this thread start. Actually if you hang around or in sandbox you can see many braggers talking of their bad actions like this and also you can hear them bragging how they fooled other residents for istance people selling items that should do something and instead they're just a fool cause they are not working and just sold from a mock account, people that like in this case take items from another store and sell them then with a mock account. We just ask for legality That there aren't precedents as you say it doesn't mean that a change couldn't be done. Look at how real world laws work. look at how Anglosaxon Law system works they just consider precendet cases and sentences, that it hasn't been in the past it doesn't mean that any judge couldn't make it. people here suggest to make a DMCA that would bust even more the big work thery have to do with jusstice for other things. In France for istance before making a process they have a peeliminar judge who judges if it's worth or no that the cases goes on. Consider that secondlife wants to move on steam , there are so many games where you need to add pay info to buy items and skill up your avatar. plus this wouldn't kill the business and marketing at all. All the users would be free of living their life spending or not. the pay info on file would be just a better way to enforce verifing residents' Identity a and verify the real identity, cause now it's not a secure system 100% working to have the real identity and persecute criminals. plus 1) if there are more people who could buy linden dollars there would be more people who could spend easier 2) all the people who want to get adult verified will have to be pay info verified too ( this would be an advantage also for SL to better dealing with the alts management getting paye 3000L for each alt after the first 5alts free per household)- After 11 September also internet has had tighter policies. Look at some mail providers that wouldn't allow you to open an account unless they verify your identityby your phone number. this doesn't mean that they will inflate your cellular phone bill, they just take it as additional informations just in case to track and block you easier, if needed. For teenagers there are teen cards available in many states, that parents could open for them, so this wouldn't be a real iussue for them either. It would just add more order and more control. in conclusion to my opinion this would add just more safety, protection and more money around , supporting the marketing too.
  20. A free and cheap way to do it is to rig your avatar with any software you want. Sadly Secondlife would't allow you yet to use custom bones ( that's a shame ) so you have to tricky adapt the sl standard bones to that quadruped. Once you've done this you can use any animation software to make crawling animations-like maya ( too expensive but the best) , poser, or the free alternative that is DAZ studio ( I guess that changing the bones name you can also automatically rig) I did an experiment and it recognized its Dae format like maya ( I mean there was the skin tickable as for any other rigged mesh) of course It didn't play animations cause I was too lazy to change the bones names. When I have time and a beter pc than the one I use in the location I moved for the moment I'll let you know better. otherwise make a test you too that software is really intuitive.
  21. try to simplify it not sure what software you're using but some have an option to do it quite automatic. try to convert those triangles into polygons ( a polygon has 4 vertex and 4 edges) , see also if there are any n-gons ( polygons with more than 4 vertex and more than 4 edges and get rid of them too). Uploading things linked is not bad thing. in some cases if your structure is well done you might upload a single dae of parts mesh not merged together so in world you could unlink and edit them as any group of objects. Uploading too small pieces like 0,01cm would give that error I had this iussue as well.
  22. What you and perrie say is the truth but what about the money . Estabilish a process is never something that is funny.The DMCA will estabilish a process that is exaactly like any other in RL. There might still be some charge to pay if something goes wrong ( judges are not God). Wouldn't it be better to stop fighting for the one's singular cases and start a fight for the benefit of the whole community asking SL to do the changes that I said above? A single DMCA would just be a drop in a big sea of many other cases like that, that won't do any change. A fight it's not worth if it will bring you nowhere.That's what a DMCA will do in his case, prolly this item he talks would be fixed but what about the future? just a provocative comment but not so far from the final solution to copybotter: it won't stop them but give them a big hammering uppercut that would make them think twice before doing it .
  23. Photoshop is an expensive suit. I agree and not always needed. It depends what you need to do. For a logo I'd really suggest you to use GIMP GIMP is free it's suppoorted for windows and linux platform plus in secondlife you find a big community ready to help with it. The only difference between gimp and photoshop ios that gimp couldn't be used for 3d stuff, for all the other things they are aequivalent. Another reason to learn to use gimp is also cause it's logic it's similar to photoshop so if a day you need to use photposhop the jup is really simple. Well thanks for the hint I fixed the T that I mispelled you know I am always hungry and love to eat T when I see them I am not sure why it's not working for you, prolly cause you might be on another distribution (than the ones I use to use), but as you teach me and well know, if you use Ubuntu kubuntu or xubuntu for those three versions do this /etc/init.d/dns-clean restart for all the other distributions that I found and tested what I wrote above works perfectly.I love Debian cause it's so far what inspires my creativity. Of course I haven't been to much detailed for linux as for windows cause whoever is on linux knows its job*winks* and doesn't need much assistance like a windows user could need. However /etc/rc.d/init.d/nscd restart worked also on a live kubuntu that I downloaded. other thing that I forgot, as you teach me, well those commands in linux have to be given as super user.   25. A movie that I watched many many many times, ,Gadget, people who offer skills for free are bannished, and sent to the edges of the world. This happens cause many sell what people like you and like me would do as free help. There are people who have ideals that bring them to live like you( a way that fits my lifestyle too ) others who have other ideas. Sadly ideals, idea and opinions are like the back hole we have where the sunbeam wouldn't kiss us (everybody got one). I skilled up myself learning alone( guess why). With scripting , cause of lack of good books and documentation free ( least for advanced stuff I am still working with it) of course there is wiki but it lacks of organic organization and organic structure to drive you through a rational, scientific learning process made of right steps. if you want a free broke student *raises hand*
