when to ignore is in the eye of the beholder. Not all posts are disagreeable to some, but are to others. I tend to just block those that I don't want to see, even inworld, but doing this is what prompted this discussion thread.

It's possible, but what is disturbing, is that when a person (ie me) is blocking a user, on the pure basis of not wanting to see their posts - ever - we are unable to do this, despite the advice from Governance being so clear. the fact that another user, potentially, has such abilities, is equally concerning. hopefully, support will expedite my ticket and address these concerns.

this is what I'm finding disturbing - that was my thoughts on this. I've asked support about this, but it is disconcerting if a normal resident has such abilities. Ah well, best to wait for Support or one of the pinged Lindens.

Curious, and maybe somewhat disturbing. No naming here of course, but has anyone encountered the error message "You are not allowed to ignore that member. " when you are trying to block a specific person on the forums? As in a big pop up message on your screen? It's not a reporting issue. I've tried on an alternate browser, and using another account, and refreshing/logging out/dancing the macarena, but the same error message comes up, in big bold text across the screen. Personally, I'm more likely to engage in conversation if the other person has made some effort. But, when you're sat there and out of 100 messages you get, 99 just say "hi hru", that 1 person who who says "excuse me, but do you have the timetable for the number 37 bus to runcorn" is more than likely going to wind up being a new friend.

I've made some good friends on here by doing stuff to stand out as opposed to sound boring. silly things like "scuse me, bot inspector, if you're a bot you need to jump into that river" or "/me sneaks up and yells "happy birthday". I'd always suggest break the mold, make yourself stand out from the crowd. Of course it doesn't always work, yesterday some grumpy person suggested I (cleaning up the language) "move along".
