  1. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Inworld/Announcing-Second-Life-s-8th-Birthday-Party-SL8B/ba-p/855597   Our virtual world, Second Life, turns eight this June. Wow! Our hard-working team of Resident volunteers and Lindens have been busily preparing for our annual birthday bash—laying down the groundwork (literally) for us all to celebrate.    The event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. SLT on Monday, June 20 and runs through Sunday, June 26 with a glittering assortment of musicians, speakers, artists, business leads, media mavens, merchants, social organizers, and other amazing Residents like you.   Make a Wish This year’s theme is the, “Magic of Second Life.” No, we’re not just talking about wizards and sorceresses (though of course they’re included). The true magic of Second Life is something different for each of us. It’s all about that moment when we realized how amazing Second Life really is. It’s when we found our own personal connections to Second Life, realizing its potential in our own lives and the lives of others. Whether it’s the social aspect, the content creation possibilities, or unique business and commerce opportunities, we’ve all got a tale of Second Life magic to share.   You’re Invited Now that you know the theme, you know you want to get involved! We have 20 sims reserved for themed exhibits, amazing builds, fantastic music and entertainment, and for wonderful volunteers to make this the best birthday party ever. Visit our SL8B wiki page for our exhibitor application, entertainment application, and volunteer greeter application and deadlines.   Don’t miss a thing: Join the Second Life Birthday group inworld (now open) for the latest updates on the festivities.    Happy birthday to all of us!

Roseet Twine wrote: So, I have been playing SL for a while now and this new age verification thing in there seems awesome! but no matter what information I give them like my SSN or drivers liscense it says that it cant find any records of me anywere. Even when I updated my payment information it still hasnt given me Adult verification. I would rather not have to scan my drivers liscense and wait a week for me to be verified. can someone tell me what is going on or how to fix it? and yes I am above 18 and I have the most up to date client. Hi Roseet. Well, there might be a bit of confusion as Age Verification is different than account verification. Putting your payment info on file will verify your account. If you want to age verify, then that is a different process. If you are simply trying to verify your account, trying purchasing some Linden Dollars to see if that kicks it in. Also - don't forget to set your maturity preferences to ADULT. This could also be what is keeping you from accessing adult content. If you are still having issues, file a support ticket and attach a photo ID. This will take a bit longer as we'll have to do it manually but it should do the trick. Hope this helps! Blondin

Blog is up! http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/On-the-Road-to-Local-Payments/ba-p/845611 On the Road to Local Payments by FJ Linden on 04-29-2011 11:39 AM We recently began beta testing a new system that enables our international customers to use local currencies and other local payment methods when purchasing Linden dollars and conducting other financial transactions with Linden Lab. We want to make it easier, and less expensive, for our international customers to shop and do business in Second Life. After all, wouldn’t it be nice to use your own currency, or PayPal, to purchase Linden dollars and also save money on fees? We think so too. Based on our beta testing to date, we’ve learned a lot and discovered a few issues that we want to change and improve. So, I wanted to share our progress and what to expect as we roll this capability out to all international users later this year. Recent Billing Issues Will Not Affect Your Account Status: For those that have run into billing glitches, let me put your mind at ease. Some international customers have tried to pay us (to keep their account current) and they were unable to complete the transaction. If you’ve encountered this problem, then please accept our apologies. Rest assured that everyone who was not able to provide payments, due to this system issue, have already had their accounts manually restored as we work to implement a fix. The affected accounts are still in good standing and these customers will not lose their status or land as a consequence. Local Payments Will be Available in all Supported Viewers: Another concern that has been raised by the community is whether users can purchase Linden dollars using local currencies in Viewer 1.23. The answer is yes, although some people using Viewer 1.23 may have run into issues purchasing Linden dollars a few weeks ago. The issue has since been fixed. Now, customers who are in this beta can purchase Linden dollars using all supported Viewers. We Need to Make the Local Payments System Easier to Use: On the usability side, we have beta tested local payments with new and current international customers and we’ve found we need some additional usability work to ensure that purchasing Linden dollars (and other transactions) is an easier, intuitive experience. While we are doing that, we will not add any new or current Residents to the beta system instead they will stay on the standard payments system. But if you have already been using the local payments beta version, then you will continue to do so while we continue getting ready for a wider roll out. In late July, we’ll be ready to provide all of our international customers with comprehensive local payment options in a system that works seamlessly and is easy to use. I’ll be updating you again as we get closer to releasing the system. Thanks for you patience as we work out the kinks. And, if you have additional questions about the system, then there’s a comprehensive Local Payments article with a Help and Frequently Asked Questions (including how to contact Support) in English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Italiano, Português, and 日本語.

It should, but apparently "off topic" only matters if someone thinks the thread is disruptive too. That is a shame, because the forum search will become less and less useful over time. Abbotts Airport is located on the mainland. It is relevant on this thread.
  8. You have about 24 hours to change your mind. From the FAQ: What happens to land when it is abandoned? When a mainland parcel is abandoned, there is a short period (from one hour to 24 hours) when an owner can reclaim the land if he/she abandoned it in error. After that period, objects on the land are returned to the original owner and the name of the parcel will change to, “Abandoned Land - For Sale,” and the ownership transfers to Governor Linden. The land can then be purchased by anyone with a Premium account.
  9. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Land/Announcing-an-Easier-Way-to-Purchase-Abandoned-Mainland-Property/ba-p/829263   To make Mainland parcels easier to purchase, we have implemented a new system that automatically takes recently abandoned Mainland parcels and makes them available for Mainland landowners and Premium account members to buy directly at discounted rates. By using the new system, you no longer have to go through Support, which was a longer and more involved process. Purchasing Mainland Parcels Directly is Easier Start by looking at the Mainland on the World Map, and enabling the check box “Land for Sale.” When you find a parcel that you might be interested in, check out the owner. If the parcel is owned by Governor Linden and marked, “Abandoned Land - For Sale,” then you can purchase it by clicking on the “Buy Land,” button. Today, we are pricing abandoned land at L$1 per square meter (pricing subject to change) and, of course, the regular monthly tiered land costs apply for ongoing maintenance. Over time, we may also make older abandoned land available for sale, using the same process. Our goal is to increase the Mainland occupancy for a more active and beautiful environment for all to enjoy. For more more detailed information, take a look at this wiki page. So, if you’ve ever been thinking about owning your very own piece of the Mainland, or expanding your current holdings, then now is a great time to take a look and snap up some great properties.

I was disappointed by the eggs I saw that got picked, though 1 or 2 were ok. 1)Who were the judges?Since choosing is over do we get to know names? How and when were the judges chosen? 2)How exactly were eggs picked for top 12?Were they given over 300 eggs, were they laid out somewhere, did they meet together as each were laid out? 3)Will there be a place to see all other entries, either another sim,or pics on website? I can't answer all those but I can tell you the judges were Lindens and there was more than 1. All the eggs were looked at as they were rezzed. I'm not sure we'll put them all on display. I'm open to the idea as others have asked but we haven't made that decision yet.
  12. Try Luskwood! It's on the mainland and if G rated! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lusk/233/144/60
  13. Spring Into Action at the Bunny Jam Event  Many thanks to everyone who took the time to show off their creative talents in the Bunny Jam egg decorating contest! It was no easy decision for the judges, who received and reviewed over 300 eggs—but the results are in, and the winning dozen are on display!   Pick the best of the dozen  We’ve got a special prize of L$10,000 for the #1 egg in the contest, and we need your help to pick the best of the dozen! Check out the dozen winning eggs on display here and here. You can click on the voting kiosk set up by the eggs and vote there, or you can vote here after you’ve selected your favorite.   Ready, set, hunt!   The Bunny Jam egg scavenger hunt kicks off tomorrow, April 21, at 9:00 a.m. SLT,  featuring copies of the 12 winning eggs from the egg decorating contest. Not sure where to start? Check out the Bunny Jam Destination Guide for tips on where to begin. Remember: Each egg (and that L$5,000) can only be found once—so good luck, hunters!   Get ready to jam  The Bunny Jam music event happens on April 25 from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. SLT. Check here for the full lineup of live music and DJs. Be sure to share the latest with your fellow Residents by using the #SLBunnyJam hashtag on Twitter—so they can follow the fun! And if you’re still looking for something festive to wear to Bunny Jam (or for any other springtime events you’re attending), feel free to pick up the bunny ears, bunny slippers, and bunny tail that are all available for free in Shopkeeper Linden’s store on Marketplace.
  14. Attach a picture ID to your support ticket. That should do it
  15. Extended Sheet Battery (power up to 15 hours) Wow. I'm impressed. I was going to recommend getting an additional battery but looks like you have that covered!
  16. It was indeed the Community Partnership Program. We did see the program placed on the back burner last June. I've still been working with GOHA and the USS and some former Community Gateways as needed. I've also been working on revamping the program and hope that at some point in the future, to bring it back and start 'officially' taking in new community groups. However, the program is not about donating land. We've done it in the past with the Blake Sea but a community interested in the program should be able to show that they are able to collaborate and grow on their own.
  17. April 22nd - 25th 2011! http://www.metaversemusicexpo.com/
  18. I would join and ask the SL Educators email list. They are pretty active and might be able to help! https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/educators
  19. This is a bug related to defunct groups that own land, since the group is invalid, it can't be paid. There is a jira for it somewhere but I'm not sure where. Best thing to do is submit a support case and detail the region and location of the parcel. Feel free to send me the ticket number and I'll see what I can do. Blondin
