  1. Jennifer Boyle wrote: oes anyone know of any better way to organize things inside storage prims than having prims inside prims inside prims? It is so time-consuming to have to rez a prim, take the contents into inventory, rez another prim, etc., until one has drilled down to the desired level. I thought of using notecards instead of prims for storage, but that only works for full-perm items, which I seldom need to store. When dealing with multiple storage prims, I find it handy to have the name of the prim displayed in hovertext, which this simple script will do automatically: // This simple script displays the name of the prim it is in // in hovering text above the prim. // by Jennifer Boyle 1/15/2010 // Placed in the public domain by the creator 1/15/2010 default { state_entry() { llSetText(llGetLinkName(0), <1.0,1.0,0.0>, 1); llResetScript(); } } First of all, you can skip a step: You can drag the prims directly inworld instead of first dragging to your inventory and then inworld. I hope this helps a little bit. I also never load the library, this is for me useless inventory I do not need, and not loading it, saves I think 2000 to 2500 on your inventory count. To disable the Library: Go to advanced - Debug Settings. Find the setting NoInventoryLibrary and set it to true. Relog and your Library is gone. (set it back to false and relog to enable it again, if you might need it after all)
  2. From someone like me, I grew up with v1, and indeed have issues getting to terms with the new viewer. Along some technical difficulties, I find it (for me personally) counter productive. But I agree that it's a matter of preferences. The fact that people are 'told' and sometimes even bullied about their use of the official viewer is bad. I am often on v3 because I need it. Simple said: I need that for my Mesh uploads. Firestorm doesn't upload correctly (yet) and that gives me the need for the official viewer. I encountered people telling me too that I use the "wrong" viewer. Which I, as a non-Noob can simply counteract with facts why it is, in some cases, for me the better viewer. But I can fully understand that people can feel intimidated by that. For me, using a 3rd party viewer, and these new rules, have no negative impact anyways. I use 3rd party viewer for reasons that are not infected by this new policy. - true online status, viewer tags etc, are not the reasons for me to use it. In fact I welcome the dissapearance of 'true online status' since I got my fair share of "are you hiding from me?" comments in the past. "No I want to build in peace, respect that or risk being muted" Even when Firestorm will have all the things I need, I'd still keep the official viewer on my pc, I always want to stay in touch with that software as well, despite some dislikes about it. Oz cleared a lot of things in this interview. Only time will tell what the future will bring, and I sincerely hope that TPV's will continue to work on their improvements and options.
  3. Hi all, Maybe it's a setting I overlook, am not sure, but on the official viewer, I cannot use voice. First of all, it takes me way too long to connect, about 5 to 10 minutes after login (if I'm lucky) and people constantly complain that my voice sounds bad, breaks up constantly and basicly it's hard to almost impossible to use. Now when I log in with Phoenix viewer, everything is good, people hear my voice as it is, instead of what we used to have about 30 years ago on phonelines, I hardly ever break up, and I don't need to constantly shout to make myself understood. I played with the settings but can't get it fixed. Does someone know a solution? (Don't start saying use Skype, etc, I really don't want to have a high list in Skype with SL friends. Not gonna happen)
  4. Here's my list of things I think could be improved with the new beta: - moving stuff around in recent tab - Indeed the multiple notifications on IM's Object interaction, group notices etc really cluther the screen. - A better dropdown menu on rightclick. Preferable the old pie menu back (I remember you did a video on how you can fastly access things on that pie menu, and I am missing that a lot. Rightclick and hold - move to the option (example delete) then let go and action works.) does not work nice with this tiny lil menu. - Resizable Mesh upload window, also zooming in to see your Mesh models is not enough yet. - The new picture window is too many clicks to get to the right option. - The camera controls are too large (Not that I use them, they are extremely clunky and primitive compared to mouse with ctrl+alt+shift but am just checking as many aspects as I can) - I would LOVE to see extra skins, this black on green is still terrible on the eyes for me (colorblind) My current use: I work with Mesh, and found the official viewer the most reliable in building with Mesh. But when I am done, need to pack my building and put things for sale, I relog to Phoenix or Firestorm. ow one last thing that I noticed with both Beta and Official release: Voice is terrible. What is broken? ANY v2 or later viewer is terrible on voice, the sound quality is terrible, like I am on an old 1930's phoneline. This voice issue is something I notice on any v2 or later viewer (also the tpv's) and absolutely 10 times better on the older viewers (phoenix, LL viewer 1.23, snowglobe etc)
  5. I'll explain how I usually work: When I upload a texture or model for a new building I work on, I use 2 windows to move that texture or model to the folder where I want it to be. After that, as long as I keep working, that folder is visible in recent, because there is at least 1 new recent file in it. So any other texture or model I upload afterwards for the same building, I simply drag n drop in that same folder. That way I keep files for a specific building in one folder. My issue is, now I cannot do that this way any longer, so any new model or texture, I need to open again a new window, and drag and drop it that way. Which for me is counter productive. Lots would say, what's the point, just organize after you're done with the building. Which is one way to work, but not my way, I want things to be where they need to be right away, like how I work in my garage, put the wrench back in it's proper place during and not afterwards. I know I might be kinda neurotic that way, but I simply cannot understand why they would take that feature out that you can move within the recent tab.
  6. I want to be able again to move things around under recent? I miss that very much!
  7. Thank you, that I knew already, but I find it idiotic that I cannot move it simply within the same tab. In the old viewer, I never did it by using a 2nd inventory window, the reason I found it handy in Recent was the short list of files and folders. Once I move one object, for instance a mesh upload, the hard way with 2 windows, afterwards, the other things I uploaded simply were a quick move from object folder to the folder where object 1 already is in as well. That way I did not constantly have to open a second inventory window while building, and I am the type that wants things to be where they should be right away, not afterwards organizing, that works counter productive for me. Am checking where I can vote for having that original behavior back into the viewer, because it is stupid that it was taken out. I see no reason why you should NOT be able to move things around under the recent tab. This surely slows my flow down severely.
  8. Quick question because this is driving me nuts!! Normally I use the phoenix mesh enabled viewer, but since I work in Mesh, I need to use the SL viewer. (Yes phoenix can upload mesh, but it's too buggy and messes up my models on texturing etc) I am so used to organize my things immediatly after uploading, and I always do that under recent. But i cannot move a single thing under the recent tab? So my question is: is there some thing wrong in my settings (I do hope so!) or is this normal behavior? (that would be dumb)
  9. Am not sure if it goes for existing mega's. I know one thing for sure though, no longer will I need to offer my customers 2 version of buildings! yay!! Can't wait for Mesh to go live, love the detail we can put into our work now
  10. I'd only do such thing for someone I trust blindly, knowing that person in RL is almost mandatory for me.

Never upgrading SL software is just lazy and bad for people on SL in general. Also, most people, myself included, cannot use IE9, since its only for windows vista and 7. All those on windows XP and non Microsoft platforms are out of luck, and since most of the people accessing SL are on windows XP, telling them to update to IE9 is the same as saying move to vista or windows 7 Well, that's good advice too. Using an out of date, obsolete OS is a bad idea. In some cases it is not smart to update. I pity those that upgraded to Vista, what a waste of money, and so short lived as well. Besides the fact that a whole lot of XP users cannot upgrade due to the high cost of new OS systems. (unless you want to switch to Linux and get rid of IE all together) That said: I am on an XP machine here, why? I do not want to upgrade to w7 at this point, since it is overly expensive, and soon to be obsolete as well. Microsoft made an, in my opinion, critical mistake by making IE 9 for vista or w7 only, and they are continuing this mistake because all Vista users will NOT be able to upgrade to IE10 when it comes out. The result is that IE lost market to mostly Chrome and Firefox and a little to Opera. My suggestion for XP users is either Firefox or Chrome, they are just as advanced and well protected as IE and run on XP. I cannot recommend Opera since I never tried it, my recommendation is purely from a personal experience.
  12. Got the same issue, took the quiz, payment info on file already for years, but no upload option for mesh in the viewer. (using latest beta)
  13. Thanks for that link, I will make something better later on, am happy that I at least got rid of the default look
  14. No worries, am not an IE fan anyways Well at least I am getting the hang of this new forum, and actually, I like it way beyond the previous layout
  15. Hehehe, yeah I use Chrome as standard, and never had issues, just for this one case, I had to dust off IE8 Unfortunatly 9 only runs on 7, and I do not have that one on my main machine yet (use a dual boot between Ubuntu and XP)
  16. Got it working with IE, so that might be the issue. Or a setting in Chrome?
  17. I followed that exactly, then I get on a page where I can upload images, I click on the "browse" button but it does not respond.
  18. Hi all, just had the settings correct and my avatar uploaded in the previous blorums, and now we have this new one. And presto, cannot upload ANYTHING???? I found the background and image upload parts, but when I click browse.... Nothing happens, nothing opens, no responce whatsoever. (Using Chrome, and same result in Firefox and Opera) Btw, why are the previous avatars we had to upload, gone?
  19. The only thing that really helps for me in cases like that, is clearing cache and relog
  20. First time I hear that lol. If creators are going to ban Emerald users from their stores, good luck to them! I notice a huge increase in Emerald users visiting my business and at times Emerald users outnumber any other viewer easely. I think personally that the back-up options 'can' be abused by some, but again the original viewer can be abused as well. If in the future, LL would deside to ban Emerald, they better make sure that their viewer will be up to the task. In my humble opinion, Emerald is what the SL viewer should be. Keep on using Emerald
