  1. The only slider on the Blake body that didn't work for me was the crotch bulge. I would argue that that is VERY important to some people 😜
  2. @rasterscan, are you just hanging out at the new welcome hub, just to spot Senra avatars? I had the same idea, and I did that on August 1st, but the mentors there told me that I was too early, nobody had shown up yet LOL!
  3. And I am willing to bet that any number of mesh head brands are already thinking about this. There could potentially be a big market for third-party stuff that works with the Senra bodies, as an interim step to replacing the whole body from head to toe. Give the users a migration path, toss some freebies or cheapies their way (as LeLutka has done so well these past three years!), and you could easily take some market share away from front-runners like the still-ubiquitous Maitreya Lara. Also, there's definitely going to be a big market for skins for the Senra heads and bodies, especially for Blake, since the provided Blake skins have a smooth, unblemished, "pretty" look that I don't think most users will be satisfied with. I'm itching to try these bodies with some of the free male skins from Sweet's on the SL Marketplace, for example. And why on earth were there no facial hair options for Blake? That seems like an odd omission. Question: has anybody tried the Senra Jamie mesh body with one of the better-known freebie heads available on the grid, like the Genus Strong or the Rebirth Kira? I may play around with it a bit myself this evening, just to test things out.
  4. Actually, BOTH pictures I posted were of the Blake mesh body in the pink dress: same Blake head, same Blake body. It was just different body shapes, and different AOs. Although, now that you mention it, the head skins on both the Jamie *and* Blake heads do look very similar (although the body skins are obviously different). Likewise, BOTH pictures were of the same Jamie body in the navy blue suit—again, different body shapes and different AOs. I just wanted to show how the bodies responded to the sliders, and that it was pretty easy to express different kinds of gender identities and body types. I'm still not happy about the toothpick arms on the Jamie body, though; they don't respond as well to the body sliders as the legs do.
  5. Yes, I remember. I actually have a couple of pair which I have used with the alpha'ed-out feet of a male mesh body for a drag queen avatar. They were ancient high-heeled sandals by YDEA, and I believe I picked them up at the excellent freebie store at Ajuda SL Brasil years ago (they are gone now). Here's a few sickening lewks for you feauring those shoes:
  6. OMG LOL! You are so right! I went and created Pat from SNL!
  7. Just going to say here again what I just said on the pictures thread (or just google "ryan schultz blog" and you'll find my review there, with more pictures). One thing I really do like about the Senra Blake and Jamie bodies is that they allow for a wide range of gender expression, since the wardrobe and hairstyles are unisex (see the first pictures for examples). For example, you can essentially zero out the breasts on the Jamie if you prefer a flat-chested look. One thing I *DON'T* like is that there's not enough muscle/fat on the arms on the Jamie mesh body, even with the body fat and upper body muscles sliders set to 100! This is a complaint I have about many other name-brand mesh bodies, like Kupra: the arms are still too skinny compared to the rest of the body, and I think it looks weird. Also, I think that the armpits are cut too high on both the Blake and Jamie mesh bodies. Again, it looks weird to me.
  8. One thing I really do like about the Senra Blake and Jamie bodies is that you can have a wide range of gender expression, since the wardrobe and hairstyles are unisex. In the following pictures are two looks for Blake in the pink dress, and two looks for Jamie in the navy suit. The only difference is the body shape and the AO. One thing I don't like is that there's not enough muscle/fat on the arms on the Jamie mesh body, even with body fat and upper body muscles set to 100! This is a complaint I have about many other name-brand mesh bodies, like Kupra: the arms are still too skinny compared to the rest of the body. Also, the armpits are cut too high on both the Blake and Jamie mesh bodies. One thing I do like, however, is that can essentially zero out the breasts on the Jamie if you prefer.
  9. Okay, here are a few pictures which I took for my Senra review blogpost (Google "ryan schultz blog", and you'll find it....)
  10. Given that the Ranch lots now appear to have all been snapped up, I suspect that we are going to see more regions added soon(ish). If my experience is any indication, there were probably a few people who upgraded an avatar account to Premium Plus just to get one of these properties. Plus, I predict that there will be spin-off effects on the SL economy, since I now need to invest in some new home and garden decor for these larger lots, like trees! I'm quite looking forward to doing some decorating in my new Ranch Linden Home. Job well done, Linden Lab!
  11. I missed the livestream announcement, so I really had to scramble yesterday evening when I discovered that they had already launched the Ranch Linden Homes! This was finally my impetus to upgrade my main male alt (who owns all the home and garden decor) to Premium Plus, and I snagged a very nice lot on my first try! The landscaping is top-notch. I love the little detail of the birds sitting on the wires! (see attached picture) I had just enough time before bed to fiddle with all the house settings. I particularly like the fact that there's a built-in chimney, but you have to provide your own fireplace. God knows when I am going to find time to decorate! At the moment I am dragging all my alts through the SL20B Shop and Hop event, vacuuming up the gifts...PRIORITIES, people!!! 😜
  12. I have been writing about AI apps off and on for a little while now on my blog. I played around with image animation apps like WOMBO and Reface, plugging in pictures of my SL avatars and laughing my ass off at the results (Google: "second life avatars wombo" to find the blogposts I wrote). Wagner James Au posted this to YouTube: I've also played around a bit with the text-to-image generators like DALL-E 2 and Midjourney, but I haven't touched them recently. I'm in the process of writing up an editorial blogpost about the current Ai craze, and what I think about it, and your posting this preprint of a research paper is timely, @animats...thanks! If this keeps up, we are going to be seeing some very interesting NPCs in-world soon!
  13. I actually used to wait for the last names list to be updated, back in the day when every avatar had a last name, and I used to pounce on good first name-last name combinations. In the old days, you never knew when LL would update the list, and sometimes you had to act fast. For example, "Fair" was only available for a two-week period around April 2008, and I snapped up Vanity Fair and Scarborough Fair! Never regretted it.
  14. If I were marketing for Linden Lab (but I'm not), I would add Vanderpump to the list of new SL last names. Just sayin' if you know you know...I simply can't remember the last time I was so invested in reality TV show drama. (A hilariously snarky background explainer: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/scaachikoul/vanderpump-rules-tom-sandoval-raquel-leviss-cheating-scandal)
  15. I was thinking about writing up a Dec. 1st blogpost about the Second Life stores offering Advent calendar gifts and 12 Days of Christmas calendar gifts. I have a few favourites that I go to every year: - Baby Monkey (their gifts form a colour-coordinated capsule wardrobe every year) - Sofia (gorgeous ballgowns!) - Alter (womenswear) - JUMO (womenswear) - Firelight (hair) - Essenz (women's footwear) - WOW skins (skin fatpacks) - Seven Deadly S[k]ins (they usually offer gifts right up to and including Jan. 1st!) What are some of your favourite calendars and why? Also, I see that TeleportHub.com has already posted their list: https://www.teleporthub.com/advent-calendar/, but what are some other lists out there? Thanks!
  16. OK, everybody, I have posted my Quick and Dirty Guide to Black Friday Sales in Second Life to my blog. It's already been posted by SL to their Community News feed here: (I won't link it here because I don't want to get banned from the community forums, but if you Google "ryan schultz blog", it should be easy enough to find, and the blogpost is the most recent one, at the top of the page.) So far this Black Friday, I have bought one Belleza Jake mesh body for a male alt (L$1,500, same price as before Black Friday, it's been half-price for a year now, I think, along with the Belleza Freya/Isis/Venus bodies). I also purchased four Maitreya Lara mesh bodies for female alts (L$1,375 each). I usually don't buy hair or clothes or shoes, but I absolutely do take advantage of the bargains on mesh bodies! 😉 As a freebie fashionista, I am very interested in knowing about any store groups which are temporarily free to join during the Black Friday-to-Cyber Monday weekend. I have listed a few that I have found in my most recent blogpost, but I'd love to learn about more. Thanks!
  17. This is very helpful information, thank you all! (I will have to pay a visit to Avani.) Yes, I saw that Velour was selling body skins at 30% off, which is notable since so many head skins use the Velour skin tones. Last year for that 12 Days of Christmas LeLutka promotion, which many stores participated in, Velour actually gave away 8 gift body skin tones (4 for men, and 4 for women), and in my freebie fashionista heart, I hope they do that again this year!
  18. You know, it never would have occurred to me that people would actually camp out at LeLutka, just to be able to partake in the Black Friday sales. I mean, sure, make that your last location before you log out, and then log in with your client set to your last location, but camping out? No.
  19. See, I don't get this. Akeruka now has a line of ADVX heads which work with LeLutka Evo X skins, and they're nice heads! They tend to have a giveaway of heads every 6 months or so if you join their group for L$150; my alts have picked up at least 12 Bento heads (male and female) each in the years they have been members of the group, and it works out to like L$12 per head over the past 4-5 years, which is a real bargain! I don't know if Akeruka is going to continue to give away Bento heads like they used to, though. But it was L$150 well spent, for sure! I wonder how Catwa feels now that LeLutka has taken over the Bento head market. Catwa HDPRO never really seemed to take off, did it?
  20. Thanks, Stephanie! I was scrolling through the list, and saw this news about Nuve: As part of their Black Friday celebrations, the Nuve skin and cosmetics store has a free group join from Nov. 21st to Nov. 25th, 2022. If you do not already belong to this group, join it now, and you can pick up countless free group gifts of skins (head plus body), eyebrows, eyeshadows, and lipsticks. Also, if you join the group, you can visit the Nuve store once every seven days to click the panel at the front desk and GET L$75 IN FREE STORE CREDIT! You can accumulate the store credit since it does not expire, and you can use it on anything in the store! I love this, and I wish more stores did stuff like this (ERSCH does it too, monthly free credit if you join their store group, but i'd love to hear if there are more stores that do this, thanks!).
  21. I was thinking about writing up a blogpost to point people to the Black Friday sales happening in Second Life on or around the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving was a month ago; we're buried in snow by the time the American version comes around!). I do seem to remember that Maitreya has an (unannounced) 50%-off sale on the ever-popular Maitreya Lara mesh body (at least, they have the past couple of years). Does anybody have any info for 2022? Are there any other mesh head and body makers who will be offering Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals and discounts? What other stores are offering Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend sales? Thanks in advance for any tips!
  22. As much as I would love to have a homestead, US$1706 at current exchange rates is CA$2,270 for the first year's cost (including the cost of P+), which is too much for me. And I already have a Premium alt with a VIctorian Linden Home. which still sits largely undecorated after a couple of years, so I don't kid myself that I am actually going to landscape a whole island 😜
