Question

what is the complete procedure for uninstalling and re-installing SL viewer?  I understand there are temp files to delete before uninstall? but when i opened windows explorer the folder that i need to open is locked. i am using Windows 7 perhaps this would solve the problem of SL viewer thinking its still running and refusing to open? I have uninstalled and re-installed allready but did not remove any  files beforhand? If this is needed than how exactly how do i do it?

thanks

Hello Tay. For the official viewer:

1)Uninstall the viewer using the windows control panel

2)Delete all contests at the following folders:

  • C: \ Users \ (USER NAME) \ AppData \ Roaming \ SecondLife and
  • C: \ Users \ (USER NAME) \ ApplData \ Local \ Secondlife

3)Download and install a fresh copy from http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/

If the folder AppData is hidden make it visible under Windows Tools \ Folder Options \ View & enable Show Hidden Files/Folders

You only have two posts so I'm assuming ou are rather new and use only one viewer. Either of the sets of instructions given will work for those using a single viewer. If you use more than 1 viewer, meaning having multiple viewers installed, you need to know more. Read Second Life Clean Install for information about using multiple viewers.

Also, C: \Users\(USER NAME)\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife contains your chat logs. If you want to keep them, look in the folder for a folder with your avatar name. Within that folder are your chat logs of local chat, IM, and group chats. You can copy those to another location and then move then back hafter the uninstall/re-install.
