squashy Beeswing
I want to travel the SL railways but i think i'm doing it wrong. :matte-motes-dont-cry: AFAIK, I find a station, and i wait. Yet no train ever appears! I know it sounds a lot like British Rail (as was) but i'm being 100% serious. So, my questions are:1) Is there a time-table i should be looking at? If there is such a thing, it's not obvious. 2) Do trains come by at regular intervals? I'm thinking in the region of, say, every 10-15 minutes, as opposed to every 2-3 hours (not that i've actually *seen* a train yet; i'm just sayin')?Or --3) Am i supposed to summon one and make it appear? Please help a frustrated (would-be) traveller. :-)

I did it a couple of weeks ago with my friend and had a great time! I am not inworld at the moment, but in my blogpost about my travel: http://wp.me/p124Bs-zi, you will find LM's to stations and a link to the wiki about the SLRR. Enjoy the ride!! Thinkerer Melville
I see lots of trains running along the tracks from Tuliptree to Calleta and points north. There used to be frequent frequent passenger car service along those track, but I have not seen any lately. You can get a free train and train things at the VRC HQ in Tuliptree http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tuliptree/107/166/30 You can then ride the nearby tracks as much as you wish. Here are some articles about trains in SL VRC Grand Tour http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/02/hobbies-vrc-grand-tour.html Virtual Railway Consortium http://www.virtualrailwayconsortium.org/home Railway tracks around Heterocera, the atoll continent http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/03/hobby-railway-tracks-around-heterocera.html - You can catch a pod tour of Heterocera that covers a lot ofthe railway area. The pod service on the Heteroceta tours is frequent. If you go to the pod station in Calleta (next to hobo village), you can get schedule information from the marker cones. Qie Niangao
squashy Beeswing wrote: Oh my gosh! And i have been stood there like a lemon for hours! Ty! Don't feel bad. It's very common. It's especially confusing because there are a number of other SL railways where, indeed, regular passenger service is scheduled. But not the largest network of rails, the SLRR, on the Atoll continent. Pretty much everywhere else, anything that looks like a railroad is served by some sort of public transit. (Right now, the Nova Albion trolleys rarely make it all the way from Luna Oaks to the Dore infoHub. It happens, but usually they crash en route. There's prospect of that being fixed before too long, I hear.) The fact that so many folks get confused about this oddity of the SLRR has discouraged many from having anything to do with SL rail travel. It's up to residents to improve the situation, but no matter what one does to help, somebody objects.

Betas that I've seen/ridden on the track have fixed that crashing issue, though they've been a bit too aggress so far in the cleanup, causing them to die at the first stop at Sistiana. Persumably that is fixed and will go online next week. EDIT: Is fixed. :-)
squashy Beeswing
Thank you so much everyone for your informative answers. It has cleared things up a lot. No more waiting on draughty station platforms for me! :matte-motes-smile: And, Storm, i will undoubtedly take you up on your kind offer.
