Question

Yesterday I upgraded my MacBook Pro with version 10.14.6 and now when I try to open firestorm, I put in my user name and password and hit click and the icon and program just disappears.  It does not load and does not even show up in the finder.  I can start over by opening the firestorm icon, but it does the same thing every time.  Even if I change the landing location.  I have reinstalled firestorm and have logged in from a different computer.  So all that remains is to assume that the latest mac os upgrades are blocking firestorm.  Any advice?  Has anyone else had this issue?????

(additional comment) In an effort to isolate the problem, I downloaded "secondlife viewer" and it works fine.  Except I have never used it and it will take time to learn the new layouts and commands.  I much prefer figuring out the issue with firestorm.  ty

Do this: Start up in RECOVERY MODE. Then run Disk Utility on your SSD or Hard Drive. Click the repair button and let it finish. Then do it again. I always do it three times just to be sure.

Restart and try agin. If the problem persists, go to Mac App Store and grab a free Uninstaller app ( I use APP ZAP: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/app-zap/id499259282?mt=12) - Uninstall Firestorm with it (Uninstaller app cleans *everything*) - the download and reinstall. Things should be working as expected at that point.

Update: I followed all of the steps suggested by Alyona (thank you so much) but no change. Firestorm still will not load.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled everal times. I still think the new mac software security update may be the issues. I will talk to Apple help next. thanks

When you say "uninstalled" - did you use an uninstaller app? because just throwing the app into the trash leaves a lot of cruft behind. Even Firestorm's own "clean install" instructions does not do a true "clean install". The App Zapper I linked to is a commercial version - search Mac App Store for "App Uninstaller" - grab a freebie - you only need it once, right? it is the *only* way to completely and fully remove any app and it's supporting files. Well, the other way is to format your drive and reinstall the OS from scratch. :)

If you have actually done that and still get the same result, something is amiss with your system (I run the latest firestorm on the latest version of Mojave (10.14.6 as I write this) - no issues. You could try grabbing an older version of Firestorm just to see if there's something going on in the FS app itself, but unlikely.

Yes, I purchased and used App Zap several times.

As advised, I also installed an older version to no avail.  My new update was installed on my computer as part of an expansion from 500 gigabyte to 1 Terabyte. I will check on Monday to see if any firewalls were installs as part of our internal security.  (I hope this is the issue)  Thank you so much for your insights.

Okay, "expansion" part is new information - so your hardware has also changed? :)

This will not help, but for edification purposes: The viewers seem to be very sensitive to chips sets and drivers... For example, there is a known bug (slated for a fix in Firestorm, already fixed in LL viewer and others) where alt-clicking an object would send the camera view into chaotic directions on Mac. There is another bug that affects Firestorm (perhaps others, I've not heard this) where a specific Intel graphics chit set and drivers make the viewer fail on Windows.

So my theory at this point (I'm not there to see everything happening and how) is if you swapped out some hardware (RAM, Storage, etc.) and it's not official Apple-branded, there could be a conflict that Firestorm (specifically) is not liking. The reason this is a possibility (this is only my own hypothesis) is that Firestorm is a "pig in a poke" for many (Bloated, too many fancy "power-features" for most people) - and all that extra whizzing bells and whistles also make that viewer more complicated under the hood. All the other viewers are a lot closer to the Official viewer - like the Official viewer with a few new features sprinkled in, where Firestorm is akin to a full rebuild of the viewer.

This is where I would defer to @Whirly Fizzle to help you. She will ask that you provide detailed system information and viewer information.

So help her (and anyone else who are geniuses in how this stuff works) by posting that stuff now. Choose ABOUT THIS MAC and click System Report. Then copy and paste the data from: Hardware, Graphics, Memory, and Storage. Then open Firestorm (if you can) and copy the information from About Firestorm. This way they have the technical mumbo-jumbo to look at and, hopefully, get an idea of what's happening.

Here is the latest.  I kept thinking that Firestorm was the issue because of my recent software and hardware updates.  But as you know, nothing up to now has allowed me to log in as Ecoli Gynoid .  I say this because for the fun of it, I hunted up an old avatar from four years ago that I never use, Guess what, I CAN LOG IN JUST FINE WITH THE OLD AVATAR.  Firestorm works fine and etc.

So, I next opened Firestorm and clicked to reset my password.  I opened my email and reset the password for Ecoli.  And when I tried again, the same thing happens.  The program just shuts down and disappears from the screen.

Do I have a bad avatar?  Have I been banned and not know it?  How can one login work and not the other. when the password is not the issue????  Any NEW ideas??  sorry, but I do feel like I am close to a solution

Haha, Already replied in a Private Message, easier to direct you there than repeat ALL of that here. :) In short - if you can login with LL Viewer, do it - strip down to system avatar and go to another region. Then try again and slowly rebuild yourself. A lot more detail in my PM message. :)

I reply here so other readers will know my reply is as detailed as I can, but it's not here in this thread.

Would love to know your pm message - I have this issue as well - updated to 10.14.6 and Firestorm won't even open. Restarted my computer multiple times. reinstalled Firestorm. Anyone else?

Frustrating

I'll take it a step further - I can't open either Firestorm or SL Viewer - white screens with rainbow of death..... WTH!
