Hi,

For the past 3 or so years, whenever I login, I specifically rez at hatton (low lag sim). 
Over this time you tend to notice, if not chat with others (regulars), doing the same thing.

A few of us have noticed a group of avi's who seem to be logged in 24/7, who all stand in the same position, day in, day out. This has been going on for ages now.

Then a couple of days ago, another avi (the nick: something bot, profile says it's a bot collecting data) starts doing the same thing, but instead, stands on the rez LM.

People can do what they like... I'm just curious about the above...Just seems odd. Anyone have any ideas about this mystery?

Someone is using this place as a bot home, or in the list of home points that their bots can use.

There are applications like Corrade that you can run on your computer that let you log in an alt as a bot. The bot isn't driven by a person at a keyboard, it's driven by a program.

They are used as 24/7 group invitors, or to see who is on a particular region, or maybe to gather statistics on what regions have been bought and sold by people. Some are used improperly to increase traffic, or make a club look busy. Some are used to try and earn money from vault games.

When they are not actively teleporting to gather their statistics they normally go to a set home position. Or if that position is offline a secondary one.

They are mostly benign. They cannot take photos or see, as there is no screen attached to the bot. But they do capture and log chat and can record the names of people around them and what those people are wearing.

Sounds like one of Tyche's bots. That is precisely what they do, stand at the landing point until it has completed the data collection. They do no harm and provide very useful information for SL residents. 

If you own the sim and don't want Tyche's bots surveying it, you can always ask nicely for her to exclude your sim. She doesn't mind doing it at all.

I moved my skybox because I was getting so many of them appearing on my sim on and off all day at the 1000M height I had it.  First couple of times was wtf until I saw the pattern and just moved the box so they can fall for the few seconds they are there.
