I unpacked an item but it's just a box on my right hand. How do I fix this?

I purchased a skin and unpacked it per the instructions I found (i.e., I dragged it to the ground, opened it, and copied it to my inventory). However, when I try to wear it, I just end up with a box on my right hand.

What am I doing wrong? Is there some additional step I need to follow?

I have both the regular Second Life viewer and Firestorm so any help vis-a-vis either client will be much appreciated.

That's because you are wearing the box.  Once you have emptied it, you no longer need the box.  The contents were transferred to your inventory. Open the Recent tab in Inventory to see them.

it is possible a item is double boxed.

But are you sure you bought a skin?... or is it a applier you attaced to yourself.. ?

The last one will only work if you have a compatible body.
