Thanks for KarenMichelle Lane for this archived answer to an earlier question on this topic:

Your PC has an invalid registry entry for the Media Player function. This can  happen when you uninstall a previous media player from your PC or a automatic update fails for an existing media player.

Take these steps:

1) Download and install QuickTime from www.quicktime.com. Allow it to become the default player for all it's normal mime & extension types..

2) Perform a clean install of the SL Viewer following these instructions:

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life...

3) Start SL and allow SLVoice to run thru your PC's firewall if prompted.

4) If prompted, also allow SLPlugin.exe to run thru your PC's firewall as well.

This answer doesn't help, there is not a download on the reference page for Quicktime

This thread is 8 years old.  Might be why.  If you have a question, start a new thread.

Apple ceased support for the Windows version of QuickTime in 2016, and ceased support for QuickTime 7 on macOS in 2018.[

Nowadays such error message means that you've just visited a webpage that still has Flash embedded, or your antivirus went haywire, and has nothing to do with QuickTime (according to Wikipedia - and as @Rowan Amorestated above - final release of version 7.x was January 7, 2016 and last stable release of version 10.x was issued at August 31, 2018). What can you do? Just browse away. And if such message pops up from nowhere it usually means, that - if your AV is not an issue - some shared media / media on a prim in-world has such webpage running.

certain huds dont work anymore

These need to be updated by HUD creators if they use deprecated technology. I'd personally suggest to contact them and tell about your issue mentioning, that Flash is not supported anymore. But only after...

neither does destinations etc..., they are just grey boxes. If i were to do a clean install would this even correct the issue?

If your antivirus ate your SLPlugin.exe then indeed it may help. Nonetheless, that should be the last thing you try. See this document first and try to follow it step-by-step. If you use a different world viewer then you'd need to adapt the steps to your UI.
