Kar1y
Recently, I've noticed more and more bots visiting my parcel. I just thought they were regular SLers til I checked their profiles. I saw that other people had banned them.....and that they were in fact, bots.I don't understand this...why is a bot coming to my home? who is sending them? what is the purpose? can I stop it? My security does kick them out....but still...It just seems weird.

Monti Messmer
Hi, bots can have several purposes. Mapping SL, List available land, buy land, list shops, check if sims exists .... for short usually they do statistical stuff, counting and mapping. If you don´t want them make your parcel group only or other restrictions like PIO .... Mostly there is no easy way to contact the bot-runner and ask to stop. Janelle Darkstone
:smileyembarrassed: Thank you. Although it feels embarrassingly narcissistic I just had to use that picture somewhere. :smileywink: And to Kar1y, I sincerely apologize for my useless reply but Kar1y wrote: who is sending them? what is the purpose? can I stop it? ...was just too dramatic to pass up. :smileytongue:
Qie Niangao
Hi, bots can have several purposes. That's true, and it's also true that most bots are harmless. There are, however, "spambots": scripted clients that send unsolicited content including griefer objects, begging IMs, and various massively repetitive operations that can be done remotely. That "remotely" thing is the bad part: if such a spambot is on your land, you won't discover what it's doing because its actual targets are on another sim where another, undercover bot is relaying target identities to the one that does the dirty work. nikita Jefferson
There is also the begging bots, i was at a hair shop not long ago and i did'nt see the sign on the wall about begging bots. One contacted me and was saying no one wanted to bother with her cos she was ugly and new blah, blah, she asked for 100L i actualy felt sorrow for her and gave her 100L, i saw on my radar she was 0 days old. I saw her teleport out and then i saw the sign, i went to check the bots profile and it did'nt exist. So now i am very weary of o day old avys who might give me a sob story
