Can I make a RL business in Opensim ?

Hello,

I was wondering if I can make a RL business in Opensim ? Is there any restriction ? I would like an official authorisation by Linden Lab before doing that. It is just about selling courses thanks to Opensim (services).

Er... this isn't OpenSim.

And highly doubtful that anyone from LL will give an "official authorisation" to (or even have a conversation with) you here.

To slightly echo Griffin Ceawlin, why not ask those involved in the OpenSim project? Hardly LL's call to make and yes...probably. I would post links but a simple search will gain you a lot of pointers. As a teaser .. I use OpenSim to test my (virtual)products =^^=

If you want to have a business meeting about OpenSim, I suggest you do it on an OpenSim forum or on an OpenSim grid.

Phoenix, you do know that OpenSim and Linden Lab are related only through the use of a common viewer, right? Linden Lab is a company, OpenSim is an opensource platform developed by completely different developers. Linden Lab won't and cannot have a discussion with you about OpenSim because it is not their platform, any more than the OpenSim developers can have a discussion with you about Second Life, because it's not their platform.

Your only restrictions to making your business based on an opensource platform are the same restrictions faced by all of us: Namely that OpenSim is open source and you are very dependent on the developers to implement changes to the code base unless you do as we did, and hire developers to make the changes you want to see.  Make sure you are obeying the laws of the land wherever you live, get a good hosting company, and you'll be fine.

SL and Opensim are not compatible, only in the viewer, and of course they are simillar on the way they work

But to sell on each one you need different accounts and avatars, upload or create from scratch on each one

So one platform does not interfere with other platform

This thread is a little bit old though. I would assume the OP knows the answer now after more than five years.
