The spammers who own texture-n-script laggy high traffic places enjoy top listings.

Their nearby "shops" have media links to obscure servers that are most likely data mining anyone who hasn't turned off the "auto" media setting.

They have build permissions turned off and you cannot even rez the package you just bought.

How is it that they are the most "popular"?

What happened to their competitors?

5 years is a long long time...especially in any virtual space. Evene SL has changed a lot since then.

What places are we talking about? Clubs? Casinos? Shops, and what kind of Shops?

have to wonder. Never noticed places like that... Few annoying adboards scattered around the mainland making neighbouring parcels impossible to use (because they're right in the middle of them more often than not) but that's the worst of it.

Of course there's some stores that are densely packed with poorly scripted vendors that cause lag, and sims lagging themselves to death (and annoying the visitors) with huge megamalls they force visitors to walk through for 10 minutes before they get to the actual sim entrance, but those are easy to avoid.

I almost never go to the places ranked highest in Search or highest in Traffic.  I go to the places that my friends or active bloggers recommend.

High search rankings are no indication at all of popularity.
