At first I thought I had just crashed, but then the feeds went down at the very same moment, and  on the dashboard, the plugin that tells you which of your friends are online is down as well....

LL must have given the servers some bad medicine during this week's deploy.

Maybe it was just your sim or your one of the people that "may experience logging in".  I just now logged off myself for dinner.  I did have some strange stuff going on today though.

They are still cleaning up after the debacle this past Thursday.  The grid is going to be shut down Monday 6-8am slt for a fix

[uPDATED 2:30pm PDT, 27 April 2012] On April 26, 2012, the Second Life engineering team was performing an upgrade to the core network. The upgrade triggered a bug that led to downtime and instability throughout the day. The maintenance described in this post is scheduled for Monday, April 30 at 6am PT in order to correct the bug and may result in additional service interruption. Maybe it's just a temporary glitch. The feeds are back.  The friends list on the dashboard is back.  Now if only i could log back in....

It's good that they told us what went wrong on Thursday. It's a shame (read 'shameful') that they chose not to tell us, their customers, while it was happening.

they tried, they posted status updates regularly on the status page. But with the website and support channels affected as well, there was little else they could do.

What'd you expect, an email every 10 minutes telling you what they were doing? You're not paying that much, boy.

They didn't try at all. They posted the current, updated, status each time but not the reason for it all happening. They only did that in the later status post that was copied above.

What I would have hoped they'd do is post something like what they later posted (see above) within the status post at the time - just like adding parts to it which they did. But it's LL, of course, and LL is very well known for not considering their customers at all.
