I'll Be Home For Christmas

"Inspired by the nostalgia of memories long past, I’ll Be Home For Christmas is a winter sim that captures our fondness for the holiday season. There are photography spots, a tobogganing and snowboarding hill, a holiday farmer’s market to wander around, a Santa to pose with by the reindeer farm, a hidden elf factory and other winter fun activities. Don’t forget to take a tour of the sim on Santa’s sleigh!" Read more on the blog.

"Debuting in the SeraSim Spotlight this fortnight we have Vanity Poses – founded by the wonderful Vanity Mirror in December of 2011. Born from curiosity, Vanity stepped into Second Life and has not looked back since. Using this platform as a creative outlet to bring a touch of realism and comfort to the Second Life community, she has enabled her customers to express themselves freely and explore their own art and creativity through use of her poses and props." "As a new underwater tunnel connecting a group of windmills to a balloon rezzer is about to be released in Bellisseria, I took the opportunity to revisit some gems spread around the continent that revolutionized the project of Linden Homes. Actually, this is one of the features that transformed Belli into a special place on Second Life’s map: it’s full of hidden — or not so hidden — treats for those who go exploring it." "Right after I visited Hiraya Township, in Heterocera (mainland), and wrote about it, the place underwent a major reform. Though some parts remained the same, the central area around the train station has been completely redesigned, which makes a big difference for the whole area. I noticed some changes, too, in the village of Amakura, linked to main Hiraya." Read more on the blog.

"In the United States’ modern mythology, Route 66, established in the 1920s, emerged as a symbolic way to hope and freedom, to the promises of a better life or to the dreams of a more authentic existence on earth. This set of images also comes to my mind when I visit Mother Road – Mirage Motel 66 in Second Life, which, together with its neighbor sims, presents a small town built on the desert along a representation of probably the most famous highway that the US has had." "As flooded landscapes seem to be getting a new momentum in Second Life, I decided to pay a visit to an already classic location fitting that category on SL’s grid: Ocho Tango Place. As the name suggests, the parcel, which shares a region with sculptor Mistero Hifeng’s store, is described as a venue dedicated to tango music and dance." Read more on the blog.

"Good old mainland in Second Life holds some precious jewels — and Hiraya Township, located in Heterocera Atoll, is one of those invaluable gems. With different areas for visitors to enjoy, it occupies the entire region of Bedstraw and extends into some neighboring sims. Although it is mainly designed as a Japanese urban zone, the place nicely articulates with parks, natural areas and adjacent initiatives which include even a space station for those who want to venture into outer space." "Beira da Ribeira, by RioSisco Productions, mixes one of the most interesting promises of Second Life – the one of taking its residents into amazing journeys – with the idea of using the platform for reflecting on present and momentous questions, such as the place of the Amazon rainforest in our days. And it does so by presenting us a scenery which is, by the mere placement of its elements, already full of stories, narratives or statements." Read more on the blog.

"I happened to visit Ilha do Sol in Second Life shortly before its transformation — and when I recently went back there, I had the pleasure of finding a small beach town inspired by traditional Portuguese coastal villages and flanked by a surf area and a vineyard plantation. The whole thing extends over three regions not only well landscaped, but also perfectly integrated, with smooth transitions between them." Read more on the blog.

"Nekomachi Street is a sky platform in Tonarino region, in Second Life, that depicts a Japanese town inhabited by anthropomorphized cats. In the (almost fully) still scene composed there, they behave like humans: they go to restaurants, work as waiters at bars, ride bikes, deliver pizza, go to the movies and so on. They are like us — but they are cats." Read more on the blog.

"Winter Slavic Rebirth, a winter wonderland steeped in Russian myths and legends, officially opened on SLEA’s Region 1 January 1st 2021.   Due to close February 28th, this review is a celebration of the incredible achievement of the Winter Slavic Rebirth team and a last chance call to appreciate the beauty of this creation before the region is handed over to the next grant artist, Suzen Juel." Science Circle - 3.jpg

"The current pandemic has shown us the real value of educating the public about how scientific principles are applied to practical matters. Social distancing, masks, vaccines, tracing via testing are all practical steps to take in preventing the spread of diseases and all are the product of scientific research. The steps in moving a basic science discovery to the practical use of that knowledge or innovation have always been many and varied." Read more on the blog.

Science Circle : A Large Snake

Destinations

Science Circle - 5.jpg

"While I’d rather not meet a nearly 40 foot long snake in real life, it’s a treat to interact with one in Second Life. The Science Circle has set aside an area that has been built to resemble a hot, swampy environment in what is now Colombia, South America. This environment was built by Dr. Linda Kelly (Delia Lake in SL). Living in this environment is a 3D animation of a Titanoboa. This marvelous animated object was created by Dr. Gregory Bollella (GmanB in SL). You can visit this environment and observe the snake capturing a huge crocodile and just generally scooting about in the swamp." Read more on the blog.

Welcome To Cafe Indigo

"Imagine, if you will…that you have just stepped through heavy oak doors and find yourself in a small entrance way. The smell of freshly brewed coffee hits your nose, and your ears are met with the pleasant hum of good conversation and the occasional hiss of the coffee machine, all wrapped in the wonderful embrace of excellent music. You have found Café Indigo… welcome!"
