"I’ve now stayed in close to 50 Second Life hotels and resorts, something to the best of my knowledge no one has ever tried to do before.  At the same time, this website has had over 25,000 page views since January, about 10x more than I thought it would get when I started writing at the end of last year! With me taking a July break from doing reviews, I thought this was a good time to highlight my ten favourites so far." "Recreating a RL destination in Second Life is quite hard, given the limitations of what you can realistically do within one or two regions. As a result, many creators fall into a common mistake of overwhelming spaces with too much detail. However, SL Restaurant and destination brand Fete has in the past done a good job in capturing the essence of real-world locations without succumbing to the temptation of overcrowding. That’s the case with their  latest project, The Grand Hotel Pupp, situated in the picturesque Karlovy Vary of the Czech Republic." "Holiday Hill @ Little Salem,  is one of the number of Festive themed sims that have sprung up over the past few weeks, and it featured in my recent Christmas round-up. Because this is a temporary holiday experience (it is open in Dec and is scheduled to close in the New Year), I’ve not reviewed it quite the same as I would ‘standard’ hotels, but hopefully this post will still give you a picture of what to expect." "Second Life has hundreds of bars and lounges with a wide variety of styles, designs and entertainment offerings.

Having been to a great many of them, I’ve selected a collection of twelve standout destinations. These venues are not just places but experiences that encapsulate adventure and romance, making them perfect for an enchanting evening out, especially with Valentine's Day just around the corner.  They also largely act as a gateway to more attractions in the surrounding area, which I talk about.

However, their appeal isn't confined to special occasions; these spots promise a delightful visit any day of the year. "

"Three and a half years ago, one of my initial forays into virtual hotel reviews involved The Lotus Palace—a meticulous rendition of a real-life luxury hotel in India.

Its level of immersion and attention to detail was incredible; in the extensive catalogue of over two hundred places I've seen since it remains one of the gold standards for SL Hotels and Resorts.

Sadly, it’s long gone, along with its sister resort, the safari-themed Kidaka.  However, their creators, Magnolia and Beric, are back, having built an adult resort inspired by Montenegro's Adriatic charm."

"With several European countries heading into a November lockdown and COVID rates spiking in the US, there’s not going to be much international RL travel for a while. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a vacation though. Where would you like to go?  Fiji?  New York? Greece?  It’s all there for you in Second Life." Read more on the blog.

"I imagine Empire Omerta owner Lux Voxel to be someone who, in First Life, spends his weekends trawling through Europe’s antique markets. That’s because, bursting with an eclectic array of artworks and decor, the Empire Omerta Hotel immerses guests in a world where every nook and cranny tells a story, creating an ambiance that is pretty unique." "Why let the pandemic stop you from staying somewhere amazing this Christmas?  Second Life has several dozen hotels, resorts and campsites that do an excellent job of recreating the RL vacation experience. Here are my eight suggestions for Christmas. Each is connected to amazing sims, and each allows you to rent rooms, suites or whole houses on a nightly basis." Read more on the blog.

"Cheri Noel, which has returned for a second year,  was one of my Christmas picks for 2020 and is so again this year. Despite it only being open for December, I thought it was worth doing a longer review on it.  Note that like other seasonal vacation experiences, I’ve not reviewed this quite in the same way as I would a hotel or resort." "Nestled within the expansive landscape of SL Norway, New Deer Isle Motel is another creative project from Kaiden and Pandora Tray, better known for the NYC-themed Wandering New York.

Unlike much of the clutter you see on the mainland, New Deer Isle offers a meticulously planned and themed coastal town experience, reminiscent of a small New England retreat."

"Second Life has dozens of hotels and resorts that do their best to mimic an RL experience.  This is something I didn’t realise until a year ago when I started the SL Hotel Inspector website. These vary hugely by theme (everything from Bali to Mexico) and price, with some rooms and suites costing 50L and one recently opened resort charging 5000L+ a night. However, whatever your budget, there is plenty of choice if you want to take your significant other on a weekend, or just a night, away." "Over the past few years, SL builder, creator and travel enthusiast AshaRia has developed a series of pop up style destinations that exist for a few weeks,. and then get taken down again. Over the past year, I’ve been to 'Sweden', 'Italy', 'Madagascar', and now she's built an incredibly ambitious multi-sim Africa experience.  Unfortunately you only have until 10 December to go and see or go and stay."
