"For weekend reading/listening, here's the transcript of a new podcast interview with VentureBeat's Dean Takahashi for Making a Metaverse That Matters. You can listen to the whole thing above, and some favorite of my favorite are excerpts below -- on the origin of the book's title, my problem with the "open metaverse" as it's usually conceived, and my chance encounter in Second Life which transformed my view of the virtual world:" Read more on the blog.

"Hey Mainlanders! It’s Feorie Frimon and I’m back today with another PODscast to start our journey through the old Teen Second Life grid. Enjoy a little bit of ‘Christmas in July’ as we start off in a beautiful Winterwonderland, take off in a hot air balloon ride, and finish off in a Dutch inspired series of regions with lush evergreens and winding roads." GBTH Talks 1 - Colonia 2.0.jpg

"The topic is Colonia. This exhibition had such a huge impact on the artists that at the opening, Whiskey and I decided it needed more attention and discussion. More in-depth talks that would describe the work and the experience of creating it." Read more and listen to the podcast on the blog.

"In Series 2, Episode 9, we visit a fabulous location from the dim past: Svarga. It was created in 2006 by Laukosargas Svarog, and even in those days it was a must-see destination — an excellent example of the virtual builder’s craft.  It’s immersive, and uses a rich mixture of shape and texturing to evoke the world of the Gods from Slavic mythology.

It’s one of the regions preserved by Linden Lab as being of special historical interest — and we also discuss the SLRPS (Second Life Region Preservation Society) and some of the other historic regions preserved under its banner."

"On the day when Philip Rosedale announced his return to Second Life and his plans to compete with Big Tech's "ad-driven behavior modification" would-be Metaverse projects, he and I had a long chat about just that subject -- listen above. This audio is actually a rough cut for an upcoming podcast series that Philip and I are developing, but he very coolly gave New World Notes readers this exclusive early listen sneak preview."
