How can I receive land instead of a free house with my membership?

I read before I became a member that their where ways to get land instead of a free house with the membership. I am wondering how I can do that?

Look for Mainland for sale.  You can do that with the world Map, or the Search function, Land and Rentals tab. 

When you find a parcel you like, use World/About Land to purchase it.  You do have to pay the initial purchase price, but you will not be charged a monthly land fee on the first 512 square meters of your land.  If you purchase more than 512 m2, your land fee will be as shown in the tier table here: https://secondlife.com/my/account/landfees.php?lang=en-US

Follow Lindal's excellent directions.  The  deal is that as a Premium member, you get a land fee waiver for a 512 sq m parcel of land anywhere on the mainland continent.  You may use that in either of two ways:

1. Select a Linden Home, which comes on its own 512 sq m parcel, or

2. Buy a 512 sq m parcel anywhere else on the mainland.

Whichever option you chose, the value of your land fee waver will be subtracted automatically from your monthly bill for land use.  If you own only 512 sq m of land, that means you will have NO balance due each month.  If you own more than 512 sq m, you will only be billed for the monthly fee on the land in excess of 512 sq m.

Remember, this deal does not apply to:

1. Land that you rent or

2. Land that you own in a private estate (NOT on the mainland).

One other thing that is worth thinking about. If you buy a 512 plot of mainland you will be able to put 117 prims on it, and they soon add up.

If you get a linden home you get all the prims that make up the house for "free" and can then add an additional 117 pirms. The house is about 90 prims.

Also the linden home exactly fits the 512 plot and then you get linden owned land surrounding it that no one can build on. Your 512 mainland plot will be surrounded by other plots where people can build right up next to yours.

The Lindenhomes are not very well build primwise (not even when they have been made) and a good house today will maybe use 10 LI. Also you can get real nice furniture for low LI too. Even trees and other other plants.
