Question

Im new today in SL.

But i have informed me before sooo many hours for all things and how it works and i have found that im right in SL to be creative.

But OMG, after 10 min on a sandbox, i found just terror, attacks, and fighting idiots but it was a NO COMBAT sandbox.

i was first attacked with orbiters, pushers and the with deformers.

So i have fast learned to send abuse repots( in 20 minutes, 8 reports for different attacks and different idiots)

Now my question,  is this the real SL, only **bleep** and terror ?????

Why was SL not help me after reporting ?????

Why can Linden Lab not stop this terror and suspending this idiots. ???????????

Or is SL just fighting out of any control and paradise for porno ??????????    (have see any nude peoples with abnormal dimension and nude boy with standing **bleep**)

And all this in about a half hour in my Seconl Life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!       THANK YOU SL     !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll find a lot of trouble in popular sandboxes with free access and no rules - they're kind of by definition unstructured environments. Some of them can be a lot of fun (when you're expecting a lack of structure), but they definitely require a careful approach.

The best preventative action is for you to find somewhere quieter to work. It's not possible to "stop" the "terror" that you have experienced - but there's much nicer places to go and be creative. A lot of areas in SL are better managed - you might consider travelling to a few of the places listed in the Destination Guide, as these provide more structured experiences.

There's not really any such thing as the 'real SL', it just is what you make of it. Just like real life, you can find great people... and not-so-great people. The trick is learning where to spend your time and effort.

Welcome to Second Life!

To find a quieter sandbox, use your Search function. Set it to look for Places and type in the keyword "sandbox".  Do not go to ones near the top of the list.  Instead, look for ones farther down that are likely to be less popular.  Then, read the descriptions.  Avoid ones that sound potentially unpleasant to you, such as ones where weapons testing is allowed.  Then visit to see whether you like the place you have chosen.

You might also try joining a group that owns land, or making friends with someone who owns land and will let you rez objects there. Or ... you could rent a parcel of your own.  Any of those strategies would mean that you never have to use any sandbox.

Remember through all of this that you cannot be hurt in Secondlife.  You can be scared and annoyed, but not hurt.  You can always teleport to another location or, if necessary, just log out.  If you haven't done it already, I suggest finding a safe, quiet place where you can use World >>> Set Home Here to define a spot where you can go in an emergency.  That can be any place where you own land or where a group you belong to owns land, or it can be at any Linden Lan infohub.

I am very sorry that your first days in Second Life have been unpleasant.  Most of SL is not like that. I have been here for more than 7 years and I rarely see that sort of behavior.  It's just like RL, really.  It won't take you long to start making a short list of places to avoid, and to learn some basic techniques for recognizing others.  Then spend your time in the MANY more safe, enjoyable places. :smileywink:

As suggested, search to find a sandbox that is not well known. To do that you need to get away from searching on 'sandbox'.

Look for building tutorials and schools. There is usually a sandbox associated with the school and the owners usually police it more carefully than the Lindens do public sandboxes.

There are also premium sandboxes, but you have to be a premium member, a paid subscription, to use them.

Another solution is to use the Preview Grid. Find two or three sandboxes there. Few people use the grid and it is pretty quite there. You need to use the grid selector to the far right of the login buttons to select the grid. Use your ID and password as you normally would. Your first login may fail and it make take 24 to 48 hours for your inventory to arrive on the preview grid and to be able to login (read the wiki - link above). - You cannot move things uploaded on the preview grid to the main grid. You must upload them again, to the main grid. But, it is free to upload to the preview grid.

There are private sandboxes that require you belong to a group. I think that is the case with the Builder's Brewery sandboxes.

On another point, your abuse reports are not ignored. But, the Lindens never tell us what the out come is. Plus they deal with a constant stream of reports. Also, griefers abuse that system and file reports on people just to harass them. that slows the Lindens down as they try to avoid being fooled.

With a free to join system it is impossible to block a user. It is too easy to change IP address, MAC address, and other computer system identifiers. Only when financial data is needed can a person be blocked. Of course griefers use multiple accounts and never put payment info on file for an account they use for griefing.

Hi

lindens do nothing, I know that.

you are lucky, as the grifer have not downloaded to you a virus or key logger, but that to come.

get your anti virus up dates before logging into the game.

windows have a great anti virus software.

I know it save me so many times.

however the lag can not be battle against, and can over heat your hardware.

this is how the grifer got me out of the game, damaging two of my best computer, and not even Microsoft could help me with this.

but now I know that cooling is very important if you wish to play SL.

I have help lindens and try to help people in game to combat this kind of attack.

but linden see it a good advertising, until I came along and told people the facts.

so now it not so good for advertising, and there are helper who block my reply to new comer.

to try and stop the message getting out.

just keep on ARing the grifer and copy the Ar to a note card for later use.

that will show people that you have try to get lindens to act and they have not.

enjoy Sl

be careful

oolOOl00loo,

There are enough annoying issues going on at public sand boxes and the advise given to you by Rolig, Freya and Natales is very spot on on how to deal with the need to use a sandbox.

Allow me to expand on what Jeffery was trying to say:

He cites a very remote possibility of having malware placed on your PC by a griefer, well that isnl't really possible directly using the SL Viewer. What is possible is for you to click on a URL link in a chat [placed by a griefer] that takes you to a webpage that can infect your PC. These types of schemes while rare do occur. The general rule of thumb for safety is the same as for with links in emails you receive.

Don't!

Just following that one rule will protect you from a host of attack vectors.

Jeffery also alluded to the ad's that you see on the top and side of the Second Life web pages. These are incredibly annoying and in some cases can cause you to use services not approved by Linden Lab. These ads can be dismissed from your web browser by the following means:

IE 10 & 11 - Use the menu -  Tools / Internet Options / Programs / Manage Add-ons page to select the  Tracking Protection option. Once there select one of the many ad blocker lists - I use the Easylist Blocker one with great success.

Firefox & Chrome - Add the ad-Blocker extension. It does the same thing automatically.

Now, we are not at war with Linden Lab. They provide us a very flexible interactive 3-D social service with the ability to create, build and program our world and experience. The can not and should not be trying to fix all the ills of the Internet. This includes social engineering attacks, phishing attacks, viruses, Trojan horses and the like. All they can do is to try to make the SL experience as safe as possible.

Because we create the world you see and experience on the SL Grid,  some Real Life smarts are required in Second Life. The basics are:

1) Never accept gifts from strangers. These [scripted objects] are the easiest way for a malcontent to damage you and or your bank account. If stranger sends you a gift, you can delete it

2) As in real life, don't click on URLs you see in Local Chat and IM until you know how to look at them to determine if they are malicious.

3) If you don't like what you see, be ready to simply leave a region for home and never go back.

4) Don't ever type in your SL credentials into any any web page other than an official Second Life page. That http://id.secondlife.com/..... URL is the key to safety.

5) Also remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

That should get you started...please feel free to IM us in-world should you need more advise.
