Hi guys,

I'm new to SL and have just about got the hang of shopping and making my avatar look pretty (how much fun is that?!). I want to meet some more people, and wondered what games there are to play in SL. Is there anything like a casino to gamble your lindens, or anything like that? I have seen the treasure hunts and they look fun, would like to take part but I wasn't quite sure on how they work or what I was supposed to be doing. If anyone has a little time to have a go with me that would be great, but would be grateful for any info on games that I might like.

Thanks :) PinkRayne x

Gambling is strictly prohibited as per TOS and US LAW. We do have gaming sims however where you can play Byngo, Zyngo and so on with your Linden.

As far as treasure hunts go, I will post a few sites for you where hunts are posted, what you typically do is go to the start location, get the notecard for the hunt, or the url for the hunt webpage and you search for a symbol in all stores. Say, a hunt is making you look for a heart, each store on the notecard/website list will have such a heart hidden and give hints. When you find it you buy it (usually for $L 0, sometimes for $L 1, its always at the discretion of the hunt organizers but the price will be consistent throughout the hunt).

When you have found and bought the hidden item your price will be moved to your inventor along with a landmark to the next store on the list.

There's a number of games in SL. Hunts aren't commonly seen as a game, more like a marketing tool by shop owners to get people into their store.

The most common games in SL are probably the likes of Zyngo, presumably skill-based games. Gambling in the sense of luck-based casino games are banned in SL, due to RL law.

Then there's plenty of role playing games, some with sexual innuendo, some without. Combat games also exist, along with adventure, puzzle and exploration games, racing games, primitive flight and other vehicle simulations and so on and so forth.

Basically, do a search for games in-world and pick your poison.

A few years ago gamble was banned from SL. For further info, please see the following links:

There are some skill games you can play with your lindens like zyngo, deal to name a few. There are more but I can't recall them right now. Anyway if you search in-world for "game", you will find lots of places where you can enjoy those games.

As to treasure hunts, you can see what hunts are currently going on by searching destination guide for events if I remember right. How they work? Depends on the hunt, in some hunts you are looking for some hunt object hidden somewhere in the stores which are participating in the hunt and inside the hunt object you find the gifts from the store and a LM to next location so you use the LM to go to next store and repeat that till completing all the stores.

i have a question iCade .. if you dont mind ..

i was on a hunt one time & i was following the clues & was about halfway thru the hunt .. when my (then) boyfriend showed up .. he wanted to go do stuff & i wanted to finish the hunt .. he was impatient so he showed me how to use the search function on the local map to find the prizes & finish the hunt .. i woulduv eventually finished just from following the clues but using search i finished in no time .. is this considered 'cheating' ??

Yes it's a form of cheating but people do it all the time. Personally, I don't do it to other merchants because I wouldn't want it done to me. Merchants spend their time making a product to give away for free for the hunts and the least people can do is play the game as it's meant to be played. Merchants don't make these gifts because they want to give away all their stuff for free. They are doing it for traffic and to hopefully gain new customers out of it when people explore their stores. But cheating, you've taken away the reason that merchants choose to do hunts.

Many merchants have gotten smart to this tactic however and place decoy boxes all around the sim. When I do hunts, I place out around 100 or so decoy boxes. It's rather comical watching people instantly TP into walls, on top of roofs, in the ground, under water, etc. All because they don't feel they should have to hunt for the item. I once had a guy chew me out on my sim for doing it. ah well. :)

Didn't see the question earlier, but yes, it's considered cheating, BUT, big but here;

some merchants forget that hunts are supposed to be fun. When a hunter has to stay at your store for over half an hour and still hasn't found the item you are doing it wrong. All you accomplish as a merchant is frustrate those honest hunters who are not likely to come back.

Also, there's hiding and then there's being a douche about hiding the item. I have had it twice before that I found the hunt item INSIDE walls. No hunter looks inside things, and I am pretty sure most hunt organizers forbid this. I found these two out of sheer dumb look because I have set my camera to be able to go through prims. It's actually a firefox DEFAULT to NOT let your camera cam through prims and people who don't know they can change that option will never find the hunt item.

As a merchant, make finding the hunt item fun, give out a witty clue, make it hard but not THAT hard.

As a costumer I use hunts to find shops, and I use the prizes to gauge quality in those shops. And more often than not I am impressed by the witty hunt tip, the store look, the items that I come back and buy, at times I buy right away. But if you frustrate me? I won't be throwing my L at you unless it's to hurt you.

I totally agree. Merchants who give no clues or give REALLY vague clues and hide it inside of other things are doing it wrong. I love hunts because I get to be creative with clues and have fun. I use storybooks or lines from famous movies and such as clues, things people would know. But seriously...last month I had a hunt item that was hidden on a horse carriage out in the front of my store. It's the only carriage and was literally within 10 meters of where you landed. The clue was obvious that you needed to find a carriage, yet a lot of people would tp in and then start immediately TPing around the sim to all the decoys, like they never even read the clue. One even sent me a message to ask me where it was hidden and I said, "is the clue really that tough?" and she said she didn't have time to read through all the clues. WHAT! She just spent 15 minutes TPing around my sim instead of spending 10 seconds reading the clue and then looking to the left and seeing a giant carriage! I'm amazed at how entitled some people are during hunts. Luckily...it really doesn't happen too often. I find most people have fun at hunts and really enjoy the hunt.
