  1. I have DoF enabled in my viewer, but for some reason the effect is erased when I take a snapshot. I've been able to take plenty of DoF snapshots in the past on the Project Mesh Viewer, but now I'm going crazy trying to figure out why I can't take any on the beta viewer. Can anyone shed some light on my problem?
  2. Dresden Ceriano wrote: Of course, this argument will make more sense after everyone has switched to V2 code base and can wear multiple tattoo layers, which will be happening very soon. ...Dres Exactly. Virtually all skin designers I know (and I work for a very well-known skin brand, too) *want* to offer skins with loads of tattoo layer options. As long as there are people out there who are still using viewers based on 1.23, however, then skin designers need to think about not alienating those customers, too.
  3. Sacred has an excellent new older male skin out. Wavie is wearing it in this photo, taken from his flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/waviehaller/5747989040/in/photostream
  4. My av is 4+ years in the making, and I don't think her appearance will ever stop evolving.
  5. Jo Yardley wrote: I don't get the whole dressing up either, making your avatar look prettier, different, or whatever. But if people want that, go for it. They do it for the same reason why you absolutely insist that visitors keep the dress code at your sim. They find enjoyment in it.
  6. I'd like to add to the really great advice Isabeau has offered. When you buy a shape, please make sure it is sold to you with Modify permission. The beauty of having an avatar to dress up, is that you get to customize her to your heart's content. It is YOUR personal taste and style that you put upon her. As you begin to explore your options when it comes to the plethora of skins available on the grid, you'll most likely find that part of customizing your av is tweaking certain aspects of your shape, particularly your face. You cannot do this if you've bought a No Modify shape, whether you've spent 1L or 100,000L on it. Last I checked, the brand recommended earlier in this thread by Kascha, sells shapes with No Modify permissions only. I understand that content creators are free to mark their perms as they choose, but when it comes to shapes I very strongly believe that they should be Modify. I know most seasoned residents will agree with me on this point.
  7. One of my friends brought this to my attention just a few minutes ago. She was able to get back the ability to use Add but had to change some settings in her Preferences. I tried doing what she did (check Hardware Skinning and Avatar Cloth and then clicking the Apply button) but sadly, it didn't work for me. Not sure what else is involved.
  8. Several parcels are now available on Kuu Ipo! This is a great opportunity to set your main store up at a location that features beautiful landscaping, lots of fun details for visitors to take in and explore, and a great set of creative and talented neighbors who produce original content. Still need more reasons why you should rent at Kuu Ipo? Here are a few: Kuu Ipo is a G-rated sim. Your shop will be accessible to teen resident shoppers and to people who filter their SL for G-rated content only! The current list of tenants features brand names that are recognized, respected, and active.Kuu Ipo is NOT a mall. You'll get your own parcel and can input your own music stream URL, land description, control your ban/access list, and more!Get blogging access to ThisIsJuicy.com and post about your new releases! Your posts will be syndicated on iheartsl.com and seen by thousands of SL residents.Sub-leasing is allowed! Take advantage of the great rental rate on a large parcel and split it with your friend(s). (Some minor restrictions apply, see the covenant for details.)The landlady at Kuu Ipo is super easy to work with. :smileywink: Just ask any of the tenants! I carry a variety of landscaping items and prefabs that I'd be happy to share with you. Stop by the sim and see for yourself! :smileyhappy: Parcels are already set for sale for the cost of rent, so you can set yourself up immediately. If you have any questions, IM me and I'll be happy to answer them for you! 9. Another tip: if you are open to using 3rd party viewers, many of them allow you to preview anims on your avatar before you pay to upload them. I've saved a lot of L$ in the past by using the beta grid, but sometimes using beta can be a hassle due to the db snapshot not being up to date. I pretty much always login with a TPV when I want to work on poses, now, to take advantage of the animation preview on my avatar.
  10. Marcus Hancroft wrote: You can, however, Miss Melanie, use display names to change your first name to strictly Melanie if you wish! Yeah, right now my display is set to "メラニ · Melanie" because I'm a dork. :robotvery-happy: I'm in a bit of a quandary as to whether I want to set it as Melanie Kidd. I'd like to, but for business purposes I don't think I will; I'd hate for people to accidentally send notecards and group invites to the avatar that does have the username "melanie.kidd". Who, of course, never ever ever ever ever logs in. Oh the injustice :robotmad:
  11. Gurl go find you a sugah daddy! Lol j/k There are soooo many options nowadays for great looking items that are really cheap. Themed discount days such as 50L Friday, Project Themeory, The Dressing Room and The Dressing Room Blue are all regular events that immediately come to mind. http://thedressingroom-shop.blogspot.com/ http://www.flickr.com/groups/1385953@N23/ Sorry, couldn't find any links for 50L Friday but you can search in-world for their group; it's free to join and group notices will include landmarks to participating stores. The Marketplace is also a good place to browse for free or inexpensive items, without having to run all over the grid. Just go to the apparel category and keep clicking to get to the sub-category you want, then look for the "Sort by" dropdown filter in the upper right corner and choose "Price: Low to High". It should be noted that some of the free items you'll find that way, are actually clothing demos. Finally, there's like a bajillion-schmillion-zillion blogs out there that are dedicated to fashion in SL, and many of them will feature limited time freebies and store gifts. Probably the easiest way to keep track of all these blogs churning out new posts is to visit websites that syndicate these blogs, such as http://iheartsl.com/. Hope you found this info helpful
  12. Suella Ember wrote: More to the point, hopefully they will realise that they can be creative in chosing their Username or use a Display Name I don't think the new single names are the problem per se. We still had 'ugly' names with the old firstname \ lastname method. Ok, it might be a little bit nicer with a 'proper' lastname that was provided but I think if someone is lazy in creating a new single username, they'd still be lazy with the old method. For example, if someone created a new single Username of Suella12345 now, I bet they would have Suella12345 Smith even if they had the given surname of 'Smith'. It's the lack of creativity that gets me. I know that it can initially appear more limiting with single usernames but I think if people were to think more creatively when signing up, it's actually offers more choice. People can be who they want to be without having to select a surname they might not want. Ok, so if 'Suella' comes along she can't have the username 'Suella' becuase I have it. She doesn't have to be Suella001 though. She could be, say, SexySuella or SassySuella or SuellaSue - the choices should be pretty infinite. Sadly, people sometimes seem to just go for the simple Suella12345 or Suella0001 options though I don't think we can particularly blame the new sign-up process for that. We can only blame the lack of creativity when people signup. I'm one of those people who has numbers in her first name, and I feel confident enough in my capacity for creativity to say that lack of that particular trait wasn't a factor in my choice. :smileytongue: I simply did not have a very good understanding of what SL was. I'd never participated in any MMO or VR before I stumbled across SL. If I had known at the time I signed up for an account how involved I'd end up becoming in SL, I definitely would not have gone with "Melanie774". The name was simply a handle I'd used in a couple of other online instances and I'd felt I was simply using kind of a throwaway name while I checked out this new "game" in my spare time.
  13. Wilhiam Hydraconis wrote: @Melanie774 : Home is where the heart is. Thank you for sharing yours albeit most was underneath sealevel . Indeed! I had originally wanted to name my sim Ke Kai (means "the ocean") but sadly someone had already taken that name for their own sim. So I went with Kuu Ipo instead, which I also love <3 From the moment I first got my sim, I knew I wanted a lot of it to be underwater. Anyway, I'm loving this thread. It's giving me the ol' interior decoration itch again, lol.
  14. I love love love this bob from Jade that I got a while ago. I am wearing it to death!
  15. I ran into this problem once before, and it was the oddest thing... it was my system hair/bald base that was causing it! Swapping out my bald base for another one resolved the cloud issue; apparently there was an issue with system hair being corrupted. Anyway, I've kept the offending bald base and call it my Cloud Avatar. :smileywink:
  16. I definitely lean more toward sculpt attachments for clothing, because they achieve the kind of shape that isn't possible with regular prims unless you use a bajillion prims together. I didn't realize I leaned toward sculpts until this question came up and made me review the outfits I've blogged. One of my most beloved stores in SL is Bare Rose, and she relies *heavily* on sculpts. It does take a few moments at times to get everything to rez, but it's just one of those things in SL that I accept; the results are worth the inconvenience <3
  17. I think a Premium account is totally worth it, I've had one since April 2007. When you calculate the amount you get back in stipend, it's actually really cheap. And it is really nice to have the option to report when a sim is offline and request that it be restarted, as well as be able to hold up to 512 sqm and not have to pay monthly tier on that land.
  18. They all have their place in SL. I like sculpted prim skirts for photos, not so much for wearing while moving around unless they are on the shorter side because the bell-like swinging movement isn't as noticeable. System skirts, it's a love/hate thing; they're pretty much the only solution to a pencil skirt but I don't like how they get distorted sooo easily if you're not using the right kind of pose or animation for them. But prims cannot accomplish the slim skirt look the way the system skirt can! Some of my friends don't like flexi prim skirts but if they're done right, I still love them on those big romantic gowns and RP gowns.
  19. I took this video of my sim, Kuu Ipo, in October so there's been a few changes but my beloved rainy mountain is still intact! This is with one of my best friends in SL (she's the cute blonde), we were shooting pics for a vendor ad and I made one of my shots into a TV Guide cover, just for kicks.
  20. Okay, I see it now! Thank you!
  21. Eek! Ability to grant Edit rights is an absolute necessity for me, since I do a lot of collaborative work with several other residents. It looks like you folks overlooked this, I don't see the option for granting edit rights and map rights in either the webpage profile or the actual client UI!
  22. I belive viewer 2.0 was a complete waist of time, all they did was move everything around, take what little important things there were out and make it 10 times more confuzing, LL how do you expect new people to even begin to get into sl with a veiwer like this, learn from phoenix or emerald why do you think everybody uses those viewers, id rather have a slightly unstable viewer that has the features we really use than a completly worthless one that looks flashy. Why not have the copy and paste in edit menu like phoenix or anything useful really, newbies can't find anything in second life becuase viewer 2.0 is to complicated to do any search i just wish you guys would focus on someting meaninful, like how to help prefent copybot or how to make a veiwer that is handy and has useful tools. if i had to rate viewer. 2.0 from 1 - 10 id give it a 1 and that is a high rating for what i belive its worth, its sad that a few people can sit don and write code that a majority of resident use over a large company of software designers who can only come up with some buggy frustrating interface. i honestly belive you should scrap the whole 2.0 project and add to snowglobe what features phoenix has then go from there, snowglobe is way stable doesn't crash like phoenix does at random, as much, but has nothing useful in it like the copy and paste, radar, extended privacy features, double click teleport, why are none of these things in your new viewers its stuff we all use the most, oh its because you were working so hard to get media on a prim, yay, congrats now can we have something that matters plesae? ty nobody cares about coke and pepsi commercials all over stuff as much as you do trust me its ovious, AND WHY CAN'T LL OFFER TEMP UPLOADS IF PHOENIX CAN? WHATS THAT ABOUT TALK ABOUT WHO CARES ABOUT US AND WHO DOESN'T.... Perhaps if you took the time to get used to the UI you would like it. Because clearly you haven't really given it a chance, based on your comments. There IS double-click teleport, there IS copy and paste, and while 2.x viewers aren't perfect, after a bit of usage I've found that the UI actually takes up a lot LESS room than 1.23 based viewers. On top of all of this, there are some really great features in 2.x viewers that you don't get in viewers based off 1.23: I've come to rely heavily on my Favorites bar, and I love that I can customize my bottom bar. I love that I can copy an slurl off a blog, paste it directly into the "address bar", hit Enter... and I'm teleported to the location. No waiting for a LM to materialize, no having to paste it in chat or IM to make it a clickable link. Instead of selfishly demanding that work be halted on 2.x, why don't you just continue to cling to your old-fashioned UI by using TPVs or the older official viewer? And allow those of us who are more open-minded to change and are enthused about the progress being made, to continue to enjoy the developments being made!
