  1. If you originally placed your homes on the terraform that was baked-in to the Homestead, you can select the "revert" brush off the hand-terraforming tool and brush it back to be the way you found it.
  2. If I buy a full region from Linden Labs for the US$600 set-up fee, does the $600 cover the first month's tier? Never mind. I contacted live chat and they told me that the US$600 does cover the first month's tier/rent.
  3. I currently am renting a Homestead and want to buy a Full Prim SIM about the time my rent runs out, approximately 27-May-2016. I will pay whatever we negotiate plus the US$100 transfer fee for a Full SIM or the US$600 transfer fee for a Grandfathered Region. See SL Wiki for procedure and fees. Please understand that the Linden Labs US$600 fee for creating a new SIM includes the first month of tier, making the effective set-up fee only US$305, but that includes all the services of the US$100 transfer fee to buy your SIM. Thus, if you price your SIM at exactly US$205 plus US$100 transfer fee, you are pricing at exactly the same US$305 for which I can have a new SIM created. Please contact me inworld only if you are asking less than US$205. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Land/If-I-buy-a-full-region-for-the-US-600-set-up-fee-does-the-600/qaq-p/3026386 Erwin Solo (erwin.solo)

  5. See the Release Notes for v3.6.8 (282050) - Second Life Viewer. Known Issue MAINT-3213[c] Brightness and Darkness legacy bump maps render incorrectly on Intel GPUs. That might be it? http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.6.8.282050 The third party viewers won't have the latest LL code. LL apparently had a regression while improving something else. The third party viewers will probably skip this build. For the most part, the latest LL Viewer is great for me. I use Firestorm when I'm building because of their better build tools. But, Firestorm hasn't updated in so long that the LL Viewer is giving me better graphics now. Third Party viewers give us nice options, but they don't do the heavy core graphics development that LL does. I run an AMD HD7950 graphics card, and can run painlessly run in Ultra in all but extreme situations. So, I'm enjoying the better materials support in the LL Viewer. Also, I recently started using Gaia's Avastar-1. I really like it. I've been using Blender off-and-on for about 6 months, and have been tracking Avastar-1's progress in the group chats. Avastar-1 is really great. Thanks to all who endured the beta period that I skipped.

Each unit has a very nice private home at ground level, with Teleporter(s) to a very nice nature-themed private skybox above, plus a second-home in a Skybox. Each has a security orb and a radio. You may explore with the teleporter(s) before renting. After renting, the teleporter(s) will be automatically restricted to the registered "tenants." Your group tag will say "Homeowner" rather than "tenant." After you pay the rental-meter, you will automatically and immediately receive an invitation to the land-group for the parcel that you are renting. This group membership will give you the ability to rez objects, run scripts, fly, change music and media, etc. You will also be able to control access to the property by banning troublesome avatars from the property. If you desire a security system, please _do_use the state-of-the art Thomas Conover black spherical security orb provided. The house controls (window clear / tinted / opaque, door locks, etc.) and the built-in radio will be registered to all registered tenants immediately upon accepting the group invitation. Also, you will have the ability to control the land's media and music settings directly, if you prefer that method over using the radio. Likewise, the romantic furniture will be registered to all registered tenants immediately upon accepting the group invitation. Your non-registered visitors may use the poseballs with you, but only registered tenants can use the menus. Your visitors will have pose-control on the G-rated seats and couches. Because I have configured a separate-group for each separate-parcel, you do not need to be concerned with prim counters. You can use the full number of prims available on the parcel you are renting. Right-click on the land and choose "about land" for details about the particular parcel on which you are presently standing. I do include a prim-counter to help if you are sharing the rental with a friend/partner so you can see how many prims each of you are using. If you desire more prims, I can de-rez one of the skyboxes or even the home, as you prefer. After paying, you may add your friend(s) and/or partner(s) as co-tenants by clicking on the rental meter and following the menu, and they will have the same rights/privileges as you. If you are uncertain about anything, I recommend that you first pay for just one day. You will then get an invitation to join the group, and will have all rights/privileges and will be able to check everything out for yourself. If for some reason you don't see the group-invitation, just IM me, Erwin Solo, and I will take care of things next time I am online. I am in the Eastern United States timezone, and typically visit in the evening. Also, if you miss the first group invitation, and then choose to pay for one additional day, you will receive yet-another group invitation. This is another good reason to start off with an initial one-day purchase. After you are comfortable with everything, I recommend that you pay at least a week in advance. Please IM me with any questions. My IMs forward to email, but notecards do not. So, typically IMs are a much better way to reach me than notecard(s). I only speak English. I can quickly clear any existing build(s) so you can build your own if you so desire. Also, if you desire special customization, I will consider reasonable requests. While little customization is reasonable for a weekly rental, more customization is reasonable for a monthly rental.

  15. I was trying to help someone, a mesh builder, get started on the Beta Grid today, and didn't see a recent forum thread with instructions. Everything you need to know is here, or so I think: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Aditi The reason to use the Beta Grid for mesh drafts is to save a lot of L$ on drafts (e.g., previews, trials, etc.) of your builds. Once your build is final, then pay once to upload on the main grid.
  16. I just went through the tutorial, and I'm feeling the same way. I like the state machine approach conceptually, but ... the state-management code is hard to read. I think it would make a great LSL editor. I just have to figure out how to bypass the GUI. Update: I went ahead and got MiceOnABeam. Why? It is based on UML 2.0 (Unified Modeling Language, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Modeling_Language ), which is something I'd been wanting to learn anyway for my day job. This seems to be a powerful way to organize really complicated projects, and may be overkill for what I want to do in SL, but hey, it interests me and that's all that counts!
  17. I had no idea that LSL Editor had been updated so recently. The wiki ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Alternate_Editors#LSL_Editor_Community_Edition ) makes it sound like it was last updated 29-April-2010. I'll check it out. Edit: I just now updated the wiki to say 2013-03-14. Anybody with experience with MiceOnABeam?
  18. I was looking for an offline LSL editor because I want to make something similar to the Open Round Table scripts. I'm currently using the Open Round Table scripts, and while I think its a nice piece of work, there are a number of options I want to add. http://code.google.com/p/falados-secondlife/source/browse/trunk/Projects/OpenRoundTable/?r=40 Quoting the script's description: "These are open source scripts that can turn any table/chair combination into a prim-saving chair-rezer that always has 1 seat available." I want to add a menu with a manual mode in addition to the automatic mode. Also, the current script uses multiple copies of only one chair. I want to have variety by using a set of 12 mesh mushroom-stools I built as the "chairs". I would rez mushroom-stool #1 through #12 and then start over with mushroom-stool #1 when I needed a thirteenth (13 th) chair. Anyway, back to the offline script editor. I studied http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Alternate_Editors on the SL Wiki and I also studied a 2011 thread here on the forum: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Scripting/Which-offline-editor-to-choose/td-p/1154817 Of the choices for offline LSL editors, the only one that has been updated recently is MiceOnABeam. which has an updated offline script editor as well as a state-machine based graphical-user-interface design-mode with automatic script generation. At first I thought that this was a lot more complex than what I needed, but the idea intrigues me. I was a Fortran programmer for mathematical problems a long time ago, but I'm mostly a hardware engineer. I've done my share of Boolean logic design, and that uses a lot of state-machine design, and so I'm comfortable with the state-machine concept. What I am not is a modern programmer. My Fortran days were all about the math. I never had to worry about making an nice user interface. That being said, I'm looking to do an intermediate script project, not start a new career; I already have a day job. I'm wondering if anyone here has advice before I sink a lot of time into this. Do I even want to bother with an offline script editor? If I use an offline editor, what should I use? Thanks in advance, Erwin. Postscript: If you want to see the Open Round Table Script in action, I have it rez'd in two places on my property on Da Boom SIM. Just sit on the blue round-top mushroom inside the mesh dome or else on the blue round-top mushroom by the campfire on the beach. Da Boom was the first SIM in SL, and is always a cool place to look around. SURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Da%20Boom/202/73/33
  19. I put some hollow mesh out on Da Boom for you to look at . http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Da%20Boom/206/238/39 I just draw an inside. Often I draw a simpler inside than the outside, so the number of faces doesn't double. You can walk inside the pyramid by swimming under the edge via the small lake. The pyramid has a much simpler inside than the outside. So, the number of faces didn't double. For the geo-dome, I did let the number of faces double. I just duplicated the geodome, scaled the duplicate down to about 95% and cut an access hole at the top. One does have to flip the face-normals to get this to work, as others have explained above. Enjoy!
  20. Oh, it could be that your old start location no longer exists. SIMs enter and leave the beta grid with regularity. SIM "Mesh Sandbox 3" is up today: secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Mesh Sandbox 3/167/85/23 Why don't you give that a try? If it doesn't work, we can dig deeper.
  21. I've not been able to upload mesh on the beta grid, but I can upload mesh on the main grid. Is there a trick to uploading mesh on the beta grid? Thanks! Nevermind! I found the issue. I needed to retake the copyright test a second time for the beta grid.
  22. Why don't you IM the creator for clarification? You just have to be able to use the UV map, which is a texture in my usage of the word. Surely the creator didn't intend to prohibit you from using the UV texture. With a UV map, you just: Step 1. load the UV map as a layer in photoshop. Step 2. load your texture-of-choice on another layer in photoshop, and Step 3. merge the two with a "multiply" function Step 4. Save as PNG, and finally Step 5. Upload to SL. Then, you will have your own texture for the object. Also, I know you can do this in GIMP also, but I don't use GIMP much and so can't help much with GIMP.
  23. Thanks! I'm keeping this page bookmarked. I'm currently working my way through a set of tutorials from Tufts University that I found by way of the Blender Education tab. http://gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html After that, I plan to join CG Cookie, which you recommended, and I plan to focus on their low-poly courses. There is a modest fee for those, but that's okay. http://cgcookie.com/blender?s=low%20poly%20game%20asset I looked at Gaia Clary's videos. I really like them, but clothing-design and custom-avatar-design isn't of much interest to me right now. What is interesting to me is the ability to design non-clothing stuff in 3D without the limitations of SL's in-world tools. I have a friend that made a really neat custom avatar, and I might try that someday, in which case I'll know that I can use the then-current knowledge in Gaia Clary's circle. From reading and watching her stuff, I get the impression that folks in that niche are still figuring out the finer points of the SL avatar. I'll just let that mature a while before I try it. If I try a custom avatar, I think I'll design something that doesn't need clothes--like a robot--because I don't want to have to make all my own clothes. If someone ever gets the self-adjusting mesh-clothing stuff worked out, then maybe I would make a custom human avatar. Additionally, Gaia mentioned this site as being good too. I've yet to dig into it though: http://www.blenderguru.com/ Thanks again! I'm keeping this page bookmarked.
  24. Well, I made a set of stairs in Blender and uploaded to SL. No one is going to confuse me with Leonardo da Vinci, but its a start! :matte-motes-smile: Way cool! Mesh is much cleaner that sculpties! Now I just gotta learn how to texture them! These tutorials I'm watching aren't very SL optimized. I searched here on Community Forms and found a lot of YouTube tutorials from one-to-two years ago. Could someone please update me on what's what in YouTube tutorials for Blender and SL for basic stuff for a beginner like me? Thanks!
  25. Wow! Blender is all grown up now! Thanks for the tip. I've downloaded Blender and am working my way through the getting started videos. This is very nice! Thanks so much for letting me know!
