Slightly different if on phone (I mostly use iPhone for forum).

Let me know when you're ready to swap off and I'll chase you around the forum for a bit.

Hope everyone has their cameras ready. This should be an epic first. Wolf chasing lion.

I mean... because really... the bear was just too slow.

  2. Yes, LL decides whether or not to offer nonprofits "discounts" or reduced prices, however, LL did make the decision to offer reduced prices to nonprofits and LL still must abide by both California and federal laws regarding nonprofits because those laws also govern those who do business with nonprofits. LL is doing business with this particular nonprofit by allowing the nonprofit to purchase regions and maintaining those regions on LL's servers for a monetary exchange.

My point is both sides have to abide by the state and federal laws governing nonprofits.

I can see where LL just might not be in compliance itself.

Yes, I have had experience working with/for a national nonprofit organization and have held a minor office or two.

Please share how you did that because I already ran into the trash on the block.

Mouse over the name in the post, click ignore at the bottom of the popup, check the appropriate boxes on the page that comes up, click update preferences. Done.

I don't think there's any hint that the Lab is challenging the tax-exempt status of organizations that collect rent off their SL land holdings. Rather, LL doesn't offer their own special non-profit discount to those organizations.

I didn't say LL was challenging the tax status. That isn't any where near my point.

but everyone has a USD balance ... that's the whole point

Zero balances are not carried forward. That is what makes the difference.

If you think about it, according to the logic you are using, we all have accounts with every existing business entity and those accounts have zero balances. Because we don't do business with them. They don't carry that information on their books because it is completely unnecessary.

ETA: I suspect the zero balances we all see are nothing more than placeholders for LL's software and has nothing to do with accounting.

You will still have the account, even if you never use it..

No, I won't. I've never converted or withdrawn. Never given LL my SSN because I've never converted or withdrawn.

What you seemed to have missed is the fact that LL is NOW saying those who do not, will not have a Tilia account. I buy my Ls through my viewer, not from the website. And I don't want to hear about how much cheaper it is to buy via the website. I've been hearing that for as long as the damn thing has existed. I have good reason for doing things my way and no one (except me of course) needs to know my reasons.

  7. As long as I have been in SL, even I am still learning about things I didn't know existed.

And yes, if LL hadn't backed off of forcing everyone to have a financial account they don't need or want and have to be legally responsible for, I would have left SL again. The next time I do leave, because LL can't seem to get their act together even after 15 years, will be permanent. Not that anyone cares if I come or go. That isn't the point. The point is LL is driving their own customers away by their cackhanded way of doing things.

  8. The decision to preserve/maintain HL lies between LL and the region owner/nonprofit organization.

Someone needs to look into the laws governing nonprofits in the US both federal and state (CA) to be absolutely certain rentals can be allowed as long as the organization is not making a profit from those rentals. If they are not and the amounts are going to pay for the region then it could be that LL is overstepping the bounds of the law. It could also turn out the organization is.

    • Private benefit/inurement --“ An organization may not permit an insider (someone with a personal or private interest in the organization) to benefit substantially from the activities of the organization.
    • Lobbying --“ While 501(c)(3) organizations are permitted to engage in lobbying on some level, the amount of lobbying activities must be limited so that it's not a substantial portion of the organization's activities.
    • Political campaign activity/electioneering --“ 501(c)(3) organizations and their representatives (while acting in an official capacity) may not campaign for or against candidates for elected office.
    • Unrelated business income (UBI) -- “ An organization may lose its exempt status if it generates excessive income from a regularly-carried-on trade or business that is not substantially related to the organization's exempt purpose.
    • Annual reporting obligation -- “ With the exception of churches and subordinate organizations, all 501(c)(3) public charities are required to file some version of the Form 990 with the IRS on an annual basis. While smaller organizations with gross receipts under $50,000 were previously exempt from this requirement, these charities must now file the Form 990-N (e-Postcard) each year in order to stay compliant.
    • Operation in accord with stated exempt purpose -- An exempt organization is expected to operate in accordance with the charitable purpose or purposes outlined in its application for recognition of tax-exempt status (Form 1023 or 1023-EZ). An organization must notify the IRS of any substantial changes to its operating purpose.

  9. The only reason I ever have a cell phone is because the other half insists on it. I so rarely use the things that we're basically just throwing money away on it. Reason being, I'm the sort that much prefers to see your eyes and your body language when conversing and hear your tone of voice. Otherwise, pick up the phone and call me, don't text me. If you have the phone in your hand why are you texting and not calling? What are you hiding? If you don't have the time to talk, you don't have the time to text.

ETA: There's also that small detail where I need to be able to see your lips while you are speaking so I don't have to ask you to repeat things you say 5 or 10 times since I have high frequency hearing loss probably due to the tinnitus I've had since I can remember. Turns out, while it may have sounded like crickets, what I was hearing, as a child, at night, trying to go to sleep was not. It was my own ears. Sometimes I hear crickets now but mostly a high pitched constant squeal that only varies in volume. Sometimes it is loud enough to drown nearly every sound around me out. Apparently my ears are overly sensitive to electrical current.

Don't do it to win a war.

Except you are winning the war when you do block someone who has been giving you crap. You win by not having to put up with the bs, they lose because you are no longer a visible target which makes it harder for them to have an effect.

So they talk about you behind your back. Who cares. Those that listen to and believe without getting both sides of the story aren't the kind of people you need or want in your life.

Unless, of course, you are just a glutton for punishment.

SL hasn't changed their Product like WoW has...

Only thing that's changed in SL besides mesh, is this toxic community..

    Unless.... Sims weren't 400 a month in 2006?

It was something along the lines of $395 a month (or more) and the set up fee was $1,000.00 US.
