I needed a horse for RP a while ago and discovered there are 2 rideable mesh horses in Library. They look a bit rubbery and have sort of a goiter, but they'll do in a pinch if you have a really tight budget. No offence to whoever designed the horse 😄

Just because someone's been here a while or have payment info on their profile doesn't mean they aren't up to no good, either. They're actually more likely than someone new who hasn't yet figured out how to cause trouble in here.
that's ageism! (true tho)

I cleared out all the objects I had on block and found a really old scatman cube. I suppose I was ski-ba-bop-ba-dop-bop'd in a sandbox at some point.

I'm not sure what happens if they remove the payment info after buying it, though there are other options for getting money.
"payment info used" status sticks forever, after you've bought something with L on MP for example, no matter how you got your hands on those L. I've tried that with a new alt who never had payment method added.

Since someone was 'confused' by one of my earlier comments, the creative commons approaches I was referring to are these: About CC Licenses - Creative Commons

Yup, nor is licensing of creative content that simple. There are many options, I would think creative people would be glad of that.

I'm 52, and my parents have SL accounts, though they forgot all about them long ago. They Netflix and chat on FaceTime all day...octogenarians...smh

Because when you make something "for fun" that implies that you don't have a responsibility to anyone else for its quality. When you start selling it, you do.
Well, guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I've said my piece. 🙂

Why are they doing it, "for fun" or "for sale"?
why not both?

Edit to add another thought: A 'creator' locking something down with no-mod is preventing others from exercising their own creative desires, even if that is as simple as slightly tinting a tie to better match a shirt. For me and a lot of us, creativity is part of SL that we enjoy (for me it's most of it) so taking that away is a significant detriment to us, themselves and potentially to SL as a whole if we don't buy stuff and maybe even leave SL. Every little helps... or hurts.
I get why some people want mod rights, but saying creators are preventing us from being creative is, in my opinion, a bit of a stretch. Nothing but our own time and inclination is preventing us from making whatever we desire in SL. Some creators may like to follow creative commons use and remix approach, but some may not. Hasn't hurt their sales judging by the crowds in shops offering no mod stuff.

Yes sellers can sell any way the T&C allows. That doesn't justify anything. Most stuff has no reason to be no-mod. Some, yes, but not most.
I think some creators got into the habit of no-mod as re-delivery wasn't always as seamless as it is now. For customers who like to tinker but may not know the best way of doing so, they can wreck their item with a couple clicks. I've done my share of messing up textures and scripts, and though I was mostly careful to make a backup, not everyone remembers to do that.

I been doing this since 2007, and sometimes I wonder what life will be like after SL. It is only, a company after all, and while surprising its has remained a going concern all these years, I suppose there will be a day when a Microsft makes a insane offer for a MySpace, or a TimeWarner bids on a AOL Online. I mean SL has lasted longer so far than most RL marriages do. I look over my youtube and realize i have videoed over 250 wedding since about 2015 - there are just so many memories and it has been such a part of life for so long it's hard to think it could, one day, pretty vanish in the blink of an eye
Many places I used to visit daily, and friends I used to chat with daily, are gone for one reason or another, so in a way my "old SL" is already no more, but it was a part of my life in a very real way. I feel a bit like it's passed on to a new generation these days, and I hope that continues and they get as much fun out of it as I did.

I was responding to how your post seemed to say that the "maker owes you nothing", but that if the thing you purchased was literally sold broken, you'd just be "reasonable to ask" for it to be fixed.
Yes, you should be polite about things, and yes, sometimes things are broken by accident or unforseen changes, but if someone's selling something I'd be inclined to say that they should fix it. Or at least allow you to fix it yourself.
Yup you heard me right, they owe us nothing. SL goods are completely 'buyer beware', partly because there is no control mechanism (are we going to sue a creator for a broken HUD?) nor any set standards. Had I been obnoxious or threatening in asking for my HUD to be fixed, should she still have fixed it? I think this is a non-problem if we are just nice to each other.
And consider, if we start getting strict about quality control and standards and purchase contracts, what effect will that have on small time, hobbyist creators who just throw stuff together for fun and put it up for sale? We have gotten used to higher quality goods in SL, but I think it would be a shame to squeeze out all other levels of creators. Or would such rules only apply to big name mesh makers?

hmm? I was the customer with the broken thing.

If they give it away for free, then they don't owe us anything. If they accept L$s for their work, they get customers, not acolytes.
Free or paid, both are customers. In neither case does the maker owe me anything besides what they sold me. If I read the description wrongly, or didn't bother to demo or check with them first before buying, that's on me. If I couldn't reach the creator (and there are shops out there where the creator is long gone) and I bought it anyway, again, that's on me.
That said, if something is clearly broken, it's reasonable to ask for it to be fixed. I bought an item with a broken HUD once, and I politely informed the maker the HUD wasn't working. She fixed it for me within minutes, though I didn't hurry her. We don't have to be "acolytes" but being courteous sure doesn't hurt.

What is your view on this? am i the only one seeing it this way?
I haven't had any problems. If the item listing is unclear about whether it is mod, and mod is a dealbreaker for me, then I don't buy it. Or I look up the maker and ask them.
Creators don't owe us anything here...they make stuff and decide to share it or not as they choose. As a consumer, I'm grateful people take time to make cool stuff for my entertainment.

He originally built it as his private home, and he's really into authenticity. I'm so happy he opened it up to the public, finally. It used to be invite-only. Castle Dracula is one of the coolest builds I've ever seen; I used to send people to the dinosaur adventure to get his dinosaur avis, and I'd tell them to cam way up and see what was there. Everyone always went, "WOAH~! AWESOME!"
He's one of my artist gods in SL, it's such an honor to know him.
^-^
I wondered how such a place eluded my travels, as I really like gothic horror builds. I've done the journal hunt and been back a few times just to wander the halls and check out all the details of the decor and ghostly effects ^,..,^
the age of the SL user - I wonder who are the oldest ?

Really good idea. Several members of my family were interviewed for various reasons, and when they passed on we have this oral history they left behind. It's a comfort for us who knew them, and informative for the generations to come who didn't get a chance to meet them.
