"Should I still hold to that 'universal principle' even if it means that me and mine will need to sacrifice to do so?"

Protests in my country are illegal, unless we first have permission from the police, even if it's just one person silently holding a sign in public view. This policy is overwhelmingly supported by the locals. Instead, when we have issues (and we are champion complainers!), we talk directly to our MPs, and they do their very best to help. We must however, always remember we can't always have exactly what we want - we have to consider how our wants impact others, and the country as a whole. Of course that isn't always easy when you really want something.

We know from bitter experience how protests can lead to chaos, and chaos gets people hurt, so our "consensus not conflict" approach is how we choose to settle differences instead. I'm not criticising the social norms of other countries, just sharing another way of looking at sacrificing one's own needs for others.

I'll tack on a peeve I have observed: social media influencing young people to think that protesting is ok as a first resort. Here, at any rate, that will just get you into trouble!

If there is no "forum" for the LGBT+ community to discuss topics, HOW exactly is the new page a "community" page? Where's the "community" without discussion? Merely in reading a web page with curated articles and photos of happy LGBT+ avatars - is that "community"? No.

I thought the intent is to highlight relevant inworld places, groups and events?

  3. One of the first communities I stumbled upon in SL was the Japanese community. Fantastic builds, costumes, and events. I learned such a lot despite some language struggles - we had a lot of laughs over our quirky grammar and vocab, in some cases communicating simply with gestures, building things and giving each other gifts. I hope they do some country-based featured communities in future, and include non-English speakers.

  4. I think the last time I AR'd anyone was some years ago, for sandbox griefing in bug island. It was bug island after all, I must have been especially annoyed as usually I'd just come back later.

For forums, I haven't reported anything since 2020 I think - that was a grouchy year. It's much easier just to put the annoyances on ignore or simply not read them.

I'm always curious, Do people on the other side of the pond put pineapple on their pizza too

    hold my beer...

pineapple, banana, tofu, sambal (shrimp paste), pork floss, squid rings, mayonnaise, chili peppers, bbq pork, curry chicken, beef rendang, cheese sausages, smoked duck, tom yum, chocolate, apples. If it will stay on the pizza, we'll put it there!

on the OP, what happens legislatively in USA is pretty important to residents from other countries. So we from outside of the USA take a interest in US politics. Politics is the driver for legislation

not just America - data privacy matters were put in the spotlight due to the EU GDPR and suddenly we all had to put cookie disclaimers (much good they do hehe)

domestic American laws and social issues are not necessarily that relevant to other countries though

I am aware that Linden Lab is an American company and that a rather large part of the user base is American. However, users of Second Life come from all over the world and the world is a very diverse place. This is what i often do not see reflected in discussions about real life topics on this forum.

I've occasionally participated in some discussions and gave my perspective as a non-American. Most forum commenters were polite, some curious, only one or two were dismissive/rude, but that's just personalities not nationalities. So, if you want to raise a topic from another country point of view, and it's within the forum rules, why not? I'm always curious to read about other cultures' ways of doing things. 😊

the moment i see the word "Blockchain" i write the whole thing off

Blockchain will allways be a solution looking for a problem.

well, blockchain technology is also being used in logistics, eg Maersk/IBM TradeLens. Just that isn't nearly as exciting and newsworthy as bitcoin.

Have you ever heard of Wilderworld?

Nope but I heard of the Thai Amazing Durian metaverse. And I once downloaded Mir4 thinking it was actually a game. So many crypto scams metaverses to choose from!

  11. Ah yes, the Hi spammers... I had one guy flatly admit this, when I got round to replying to his Hi (I always do reply eventually, if only with a Yo) he said "NVM I already found someone else" 😆

Good intention or not, these sorts have spoiled the market for a simple Hi approach.
