Yes but you have to consider how Paul is using it -- what he means by it.
I mean exactly what it is. Humans tend to remember stuff that's really good or really bad, not really normal.

Interesting how you pin it on Luna and Gopi, instead of 100% on the men.
I could phrase it "what do all these men see in them that they don't see in other women mentioned in the thread"... But it's the exact same question and you're better than that.

More likely, it's something else.
Could be. But what?
What makes Luna and Gopi so much more irresistible than everyone else that men have to seemingly constantly harass them in inappropriate locations, I wonder?

Yeah, BUT, a lot of it comes down to a combination of avatar appearance and sometimes profile. Some looks tend to get hit on more than others, too.
If I go out somewhere with my friend in a human avatar, she'll get hit on once or twice (or more), but I will not. Her avatar is more traditionally attractive and definitely more on-trend (shape wise) than I am. Look at Flickr or the weekend sale ads - yeah, like that. I'm tall in Maitreya with natural curves, a small chest, tomboyish, and very alternative. She's shorter, very curvy/thick (GenX Curvy I think, or Reborn, I dunno one of those), long hair, and very classically pretty. She's just more inviting, methinks, than the chick with full body tats and a dozen rings in her face. 😂
Sure, that's why I mentioned my one friend that used to get hit on a lot and has only dialed up the look since then.
Is it possible that avatars like my friend's and @Rowan Amoreand others just aren't as attractive as they used to be? Sure. My bet though is that posts like these are borne of selective memory, like when we only remember bad experiences over mundane ones.

As stated in the title, today I've decided to disable incoming IMs from people who aren't in my accounts' friendlists. I'm not doing this for every account of mine, just the ones that present as women. IMs from strangers were just too annoying so I eventually had to do this.
I realize there may drawbacks to this - I (as my woman accounts) may not see communications from kind, genuine people who have no hidden intentions but just simply prefer IM over local chat for example, but I understand that it's a sacrifice I have to make.
Once I disabled IMs, when using one of my woman accounts in social area I felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulder. I no longer felt at edge anticipating yet another annoying IM from a thirsty man. I felt more free I guess; it was liberating.
This seems... Hyperbolic.
Now, granted anecdotal evidence is anecdotal and not science, but my lady friends never seem to have this problem with men sending them messages. As a matter of fact, one who has a very... we'll call it an "attention getting" avatar, our running joke now is that she gets hit on as rarely as I do these days.

Ooh, may the Tiny Explorers be honorary cousins? We might be able to join each other sometimes on a trip.
p.s. we has helmets
Sure, why not. Stop by the HQ in-world or drop me a line if you want to set anything up.

Oh, awesome initiative, that sounds as if it could work so well with regular bumping of the thread with a pic from the last exploration. I'll join the group when in-world later. European timezone here, but somewhat flexible, as long as it's not my middle of the night
I'm also putting in a system for sharing adventures with a drag and drop, so anyone can drop in a notecard with directions or a landmark that'll get shared with anyone else that wants it.
Way to connect across different time zones. Making a screenshot board somewhere also sounds like a good idea.

Considering trademarks, that's a pretty silly requirement.
Even if trademarks weren't a problem, why limit your brand selection to some of the worst performing options?

Yeah 192.168.x.x just reserved for anything from your own local host?
Right. That's an entirely local address within a network. I also have several virtual networks set up for different things, including a VPN for some friends, and a totally open wifi subnet (with limited bandwidth) for... We'll say plausible deniability purposes.
My public Internet IP could be any of a dozen people at any moment, guaranteed. And I live in the woods. Someone in the suburbs or a real city with a setup like mine could increase that number of people by significant magnitudes.

I don't think you'll ever find a Linden saying that's done exclusively with IP address matching.
Linden Lab does their account identification via MAC address.
Or at least they did as of several years ago. Don't ask how I know.

The point is that nowadays an IP may stay the same for a long period of time. That's the point and that breaks the anonymity.
Exactly the opposite.
My IP address is 192.168.0.160. My friend's IP address is 192.168.1.3. At any moment, people in my building range from 192.168.0.10 to .100 on the one subnet, and my friend's subnet is 192.168.1.2 to .100 not including the static assigned ones. My public subnet ranges from 192.168.10.2 to .100.
whatismyip.com thinks we all have the same IP address, because of how networks work. The longer I keep that one IP address, the more chances people have to get on one of the subnets and connect via it.
Personally, I haven't seen a computer connect directly to the Internet since the days of dialup. It's always been through networks, and more and more through public wifi these days.

I don't see any arguments in your post, so "believing" is obviously what you're doing. That's totally fine, just believe!
That people stick with the same DYNAMIC IP for a long time nowadays compared to the past is a fact. And nobody is going to intentionally obscure their IP identity when they connect with an alt unless they do something shady. The probability to get the IP of another SL user is freaking low. But believe what you want
Believing that two people having the same IP automatically makes them the same person is insanity.
Even if we ignore VPNs, you've heard of networks, right? You know how large they can get?

An IP match is no 100% proof but what is it? 99%?
More likely 30% - 50% max.

Oh man, I'm such a happy camper. Now I can rez all my stuff on the marketplace one by one and see how the LI has changed and than alter that on the MP.
Have to redo each and every texture for my shop vendor, because they state the LI.
Man, hours of extra work for no extra sales.
Thanks LL. Just got to love this.
18 minutes ago, Artorius Constantine said:^ This right here was my first thought. I now have to go through hundreds of mesh items, rez them on world, compare the LI to the listing and if (changed), change the listings, LI counts and sales pictures because I as well, put the LI in the main pic. I guess I'll stop that practice, that made things easier on the shoppers, since it will now cause me a whole lot of extra work.
I only have a dozen or so myself, but I'm not going to bother. As long as LL doesn't change things to make the LI higher than current, I don't care.

I just heard the next style for Linden Homes will be high tech underground bunkers. I don't know yet if these will be 1024 m, 2048 m or both.
I'd actually get one of these.

I can't decide which side of the debate I like more.
I do have to say though, I'm a little surprised how many otherwise intelligent residents (or so I thought) have apparently suggested that non-profitable hobby creators should leave SL.
If anything were truly going to kill SL, that would do it.

People say they want to find friends to explore with, but I figure I'll take it a step further. I'm putting together an actual group to do it together, including a headquarters location to help facilitate it.

Honestly, if they just made some real effort to police and enforce their own ToS properly, much of this would be solved. A half day spent on in-world search of groups and parcels/regions would pretty quickly suggest some targets for action.

Yeah. And that's exactly why the focus should NOT be upon establishing "rules" for how people represent.
You know, I'm sure, that I agree with you about those who represent as "childish" women at clubs and such: whether or not they are engaging in actual a*e play or not, they are appealing to a cultural tendency to infantilize women, and find such infantilization "sexy" and appealing.
But flagging people on the basis of what they wear, how large their breasts are, etc., is a terribly blunt instrument, and it will, in practice, inevitably end up hurting women more than it hurts men.
My avatar is short by SL standards, at 180cm (my RL height). And I have small breasts -- again, by SL standards.
Do I need someone telling me that I need to be taller and have larger boobs?

I think we're definitely moving in that direction, based upon what I'm seeing here, and on social media. Oberwager's post is (unintentionally) going to exacerbate that, as people cast about for an "easy" solution to a perplexing problem. One such easy solution is banning child avatars.
That will change nothing.
Yes. This.
I'm not going to mention them 'cause it'll just be deleted, but that 100% mirrors real world hot topic issues- people faced with a complex problem immediately go to easy solutions that they personally like, despite the solution coming with unintended consequences if they even have any effect at all.

I decided to make my Second Life a tad bit easier. I disabled incoming IMs from "non-friends" for some of my accounts.

I think discussing the "why do some people suffer from this when others don't?" could be helpful in finding workarounds or solutions to reduce it.
Would that be better or worse? I can never tell.
