Honestly, if they just made some real effort to police and enforce their own ToS properly, much of this would be solved. A half day spent on in-world search of groups and parcels/regions would pretty quickly suggest some targets for action.

Yeah. And that's exactly why the focus should NOT be upon establishing "rules" for how people represent.

You know, I'm sure, that I agree with you about those who represent as "childish" women at clubs and such: whether or not they are engaging in actual a*e play or not, they are appealing to a cultural tendency to infantilize women, and find such infantilization "sexy" and appealing.

But flagging people on the basis of what they wear, how large their breasts are, etc., is a terribly blunt instrument, and it will, in practice, inevitably end up hurting women more than it hurts men.

My avatar is short by SL standards, at 180cm (my RL height). And I have small breasts -- again, by SL standards.

Do I need someone telling me that I need to be taller and have larger boobs?

Just don't forget, "you'd be prettier if you smiled", while you're at it..

You post too fast and ruin all the fun. I was actually going to say that!

I think we're definitely moving in that direction, based upon what I'm seeing here, and on social media. Oberwager's post is (unintentionally) going to exacerbate that, as people cast about for an "easy" solution to a perplexing problem. One such easy solution is banning child avatars.

    That will change nothing.

    Yes. This.

I'm not going to mention them 'cause it'll just be deleted, but that 100% mirrors real world hot topic issues- people faced with a complex problem immediately go to easy solutions that they personally like, despite the solution coming with unintended consequences if they even have any effect at all.

    Too much work.

Unless it involves nothing more than reclining on a couch being hand-fed peeled grapes, of course.

I imagine we'd have to start acknowledging International Women's Day or something. That does sound exhausting.

Well, this kind of discussion has been happening for a while, and the current clime has certainly amplified it.

I sincerely hope that the tenor of those discussions does not mirror the ones LL must now be having.

The analogy, I'll admit, is not an exact one one, but it's a little as though someone had decided that the best way to deal with the prevalence of Dolcett, snuff p*rn, and r*pe play was to start banning or policing female avatars.

Whatever do you mean? I've checked my notes and according to them, some old dude in a suit making decisions about female bodies has always worked perfectly fine and with no issues whatsoever.

People in SL can be taller than in SL, because: status, power, strength. This drove most avatars in SL to evolve as taller beings than they are IRL. As a consequence, houses are bigger in SL, furniture is bugger, Land Impacts are higher. All because some people want to be bigger than others. All in all, I would say, 1 meter IRL corresponds to 1.25 m in SL.

Everything being bigger makes everything bigger, it doesn't make a meter not a meter anymore.

Several years ago I worked with the facilities department in the Reebok world headquarters. Most of the visitors there were pro Basketball players. Your standard 80 inch tall door was not going to work for those guys in most places. We didn't suddenly say that Reebok inches were different than the rest of the world's inches- we just added more inches.

  7. So, I've been back and forth with LL a lot and they're stumped on this one, as am I.

Anyone have any guesses what would cause disconnects after teleporting into a location? Only one account struggles with the location, other people do not. Other locations are fine.

And it's not a typical teleport failure, either. The teleport looks like it's completed and I can chat with people via IM (but not local) but can't move around or interact with anything, until eventually disconnected.

There are very few "no mod" creators out there and like the OP mentioned, so many creators making each item of an outfit with its own attachment point.

Should be letting those merchants know they're screwing up your ability to attach their stuff, I think.

  9. I've always been of the mind that if you're using up that many attachment points, you're the reason for lag.

Or at the very least, you're doing something very, very wrong- even if it's as simple as supporting too many "no mod" merchants.

If it's b0rked, and you can get me there, I can fix it. As long as it's not some onboard computer module or something, they make those impossible to fix without sending them off somewhere.

If you just want it all supercharged and murdered out, that might take a bit. I'll need lots of bologna sandwiches and kool-aid.

Also, scripts. If you want custom scripting for a bike, HMU inworld sometime, and we can talk.

It's the new(ish) Rebel DCT. Changing the bars on that means disconnecting all those DCT computer controls and running new wires and cables, plus bleeding the entire brake system. It's a job that I'm not sure I have the tools, time, or space for.

As for scripts... I'm somewhat confident I could do my own. Tracking down sounds and animations though...
