Weird, this is what a shiny brick-bumpmaped prim under projector light looks like to me:

    (

ETA: Be sure to turn shadows to "Sun/Moon + Projectors" in graphics preferences if you want to see projector shadows.

I had everthing turned on and up fully.  I was planning on making another video, when I noticed the issue as I had planned on doing a fade in with my eep sky changer from pure black to a reflective brick surface, but it went weird.

  2. I'm working on something, but that something has hit a wall because of what I'm calling a bug.

Dani in a no lights condition using eep. WSHJCyk.png

The prim that's infront of her is set to high shine and is using a brick bump map.  no shadow upon it at this side, it's all black.

    Now

Turning the camera to the other side, I get this

    m27QdHe.png

No shine on the prim,  projector pushes through the shadow,  is this expected behavior?  if so,  what I wanted to do will not work :(

This feels like the rest of life. We had more freedom in the past, and everyone is limiting everything at every opportunity.

I wasted hours trying to do something I've done years ago just to find out that support, has been dropped.

Starting to believe that features like this were intentionally nerfed rather than dropped from support. It isn't like these file formats changed.

4 years later...  everything changes.  support for old formats gets dropped for better formats.   dates on topics are also important.

The problem with Linden Lab is they say they are working on this or that and get people's hopes up and then either drop it completely or release something that's totally mediocre. And they suck at  communication. Over in the mobile, it was being discussed with Lindens about the direction of mobile and then it just abruptly stopped. And this....monstrosity....was released. So one can only assume this is all we get for mobile.

This monstrosity is not a LL project and is a project of another SL user.

I had an uncle that would talk with this same temperament every time we would tell him he's too old to drive, and that he should look at some modern options like Uber.

By the time he finally did stop driving, his yearly insurance rate was more than what I paid for my whole motorcycle, brand new, because of all the crashes he'd been in.

I'm not going to be very thrilled ever with trying to push SL into a medium, it's just not meant for.  it's not meant for the masses.   also I use uber and lyft and figured out their surge pricing and know how to avoid it lol.

Lock screens in this day and age are important,  the system gets hijacked,  it gets a remote rdp session, but they can not access the system because it's locked, if you disable the lock screen, they have full access to the system.    so an fyi, for people that like to live dangerously, this would be for them.

It's amazing that the oldbies complain so much, with all these improvements in our past!

The ones I tend to run into are the ones, that I mentioned in another topic,  the ones trying to hang onto their windows xp machines.  I wish I was kidding, I'm actually helping a lady plan an upgrade path so she can actually use SL fully again.   she's still on the xp machine.

Because I didn't catch the GDPR cutoff in the five days given, I opened a support ticket with LL to clear that data. They referred me to the letter sent by Casper to find out more information about how to do that. I said I read it, and it says after 9/19 to contact LL. The other information provided by the support Linden also seemed different than what I was seeing here, but of course, LL closed the support ticket immediately upon answering my questions (by simply ignoring half of them and answering different questions I hadn't asked). Ultimately, I was told that Casper was still handling GDPR requests and that the Linden hadn't answered the rest of my questions because the answers were unknown. "We don't know yet. We'll have to see." would have been a perfectly acceptable thing to say in the first place. While I'm sure this will end up being a positive thing, I'm still seeing a lot of conflicting information coming from various, yet authoritative, sources.

I have two major questions: As of today, to whom do I send a GDPR request? (And if it is still Casper, when will that actually change, since the cutoff date was some days ago.)

Will Casper and his staff still be handling support via the CasperTech group, or will that be run by LL?

Some of this seems to have been touched on, but again, since I'm seeing conflicting information about both, is there a definitive answer for either? (And I'm still happy to accept "we aren't sure yet.)

once you do this, you can no longer use the systems, you are aware of this too right?

Although this post is not specific to SL, it is with the PC you log in with. (mods pls remove this post if it is not within guidelines).

In the new 2022 version of windows 11, you get a front lock screen of which you have to press enter, or space key a few times to get to the screen where you have to enter a PIN.

This first screen can be disabled if you find it annoying or unnecessary through the registry, instructions on this website link, you cannot disable the PIN entry screen, however.

Lock screens in this day and age are important,  the system gets hijacked,  it gets a remote rdp session, but they can not access the system because it's locked, if you disable the lock screen, they have full access to the system.    so an fyi, for people that like to live dangerously, this would be for them.

  10. Sorry if I have ruffled any feathers in here, I'm just passionate about SL and I get knee jerk reactions when people come in and talk about unity and this and that.   I guess those people miss sansar,  while it sounded good on paper, it never got to where it needed to be,  basically an SL 2.0 with full interopt with 1.0,  so if LL ever decides for a 2.0 again,  I might support it,  IF it's fully compatiable in all ways with what we have now and it locks nobody out from being here with us,  I know there are some users that drag tooth and nail holding onto old hardware and those people have to be included in this too, we are starting to see those locked out because of certain upgrades to the platform.  I know a few of them personally they are bed bound and have no interactions with the outside world and this is how they live, we take it away from them, we lose them too.

okay I'm done being on my soap box.

Like it or not, LL seem to disagree since they're currently working on adding things like reflection probes and updating their support for PBR materials so that SL is more in-line with industry standards like those used in Unity, etc.

What on earth makes you think I'm advocating for LL to swap to using Unity?  I'm talking about them adopting some of the industry standards (like PBR materials and reflection probes) and implementing similar systems in SL so that some of those amazing builds that exist can be made even more amazing.

I don't know why the mere mention of Unity causes people to jump to such extreme conclusions but it seems like everytime somebody brings up the subject of industry standard features present in other engines but absent in SL, the instant assumption is that they're claiming that ALL the latest features of modern game engines should be possible in SL.

As I said, whether you like it or not LL are already trying to update the platform to include features that these other game engines have had for years, so however laughable you think the idea of including more advanced graphical features may be, they're currently hard at work proving you wrong!

yeah, it's fine how it is and can stay how it is.  not every one is here for the fancy pretty junk.

  12. I will add SL is the only virtual world that I am willing to ever be in, I've tried others from their beta offerings,  but this, this world right here, where I have real friends, where I have people whom I can call family, a place where I can come be me at, a place that exists because of people like philip and their dreams,  a place I call home,  I'm not willing to ever lose the place I call home.

And yet there's at least one fairly well established virtual world which uses Unity as its engine.

To claim that there can be absolutely no comparison between virtual worlds and modern game engines and that somehow SL, just because it's a virtual world, has reached the pinnacle of what it should be capable of delivering in terms of quality of content is just silly.

SL does not need a modern graphics engine overhaul,  we are fine where we are at with that today, I've seen amazing builds at the level of what unity has,  we do not need unity nor any of it's backend or building tools,  few more supported mesh implementations and some languages besides LSL, would go father then burning all the bridges and forcing unity on everyone.

I'm totally fine with SL dying with your generation. Take it with you.

so this reply is not direct at you, but the generalization that the younger generation has zero ideas about products such as this and only want the bling bling and the fancy related items,  when in a normal say my generations ideas, we like what we see, we like how it works,  we do not fix it if it's not broken and SL is not broken.  So go ahead try and create what SL has, it wont happen,  tools like unity give false hopes and false narratives when it comes to virtual worlds like SL,  SL is not a game and is not static content, Unity based are just that, static, boring, not fresh nor realistic for audiences.   but again I was told take it with us.   fine.
