I watched it and it didn't seem to lag at all to me. In my opinion, its far better than trying to drive with 5-10 fps. A lot of these worlds actually do it better because their not built like SL. A lot of people put value in higher framerates for a more enjoyable experience at higher graphics.

    Very debatable.

SL does it better.  old school is the best.  us older grumpy types like our SL and we want to continue with how it is.

Ditto.  Wanted to see this up and running.  We're here for tech questions if you or anyone wants to take another swing at it.

Not certain it helps but I was able to get some genuine Pi4 compute modules recently.  Stuffed into an adapter board, might be another way to play with Pi.

I've been unable to get any pi's at all,  count your blessings.

Hopefully a Linden will pop in and fill us in if it's something to be concerned about.

Many state laws are cracking down on privacy stuff like California.

I've not got anything to really be worried about privacy wise, I work for a school system,  and I have zero privacy with them,  so LL or whom ever,  does not bother me.

Can you link those to us, so we can look at them?  without being able to see what you offer, how are we to choose you over other people?

he must teach us his secrets!  ;)

yes because netflix uses a cookie based session and only allows login for that cookie and session, it's not a shared experience.   we've tried several methods and they fail.  Only way we can get it to work is using a server that lets us use obs to stream netflix, but that requires upload and download bandwidth and not many people have that head room to do so.

People have played with fire for thousands of years, and they're going to keep doing it. I paid for the app, and there is such a thing as a counter suit.  We can argue the creator was negligible with the project, not maintaining it to the point of it being abandonware. It would be more feasible, and profitable, if the creator returned, updated Lumiya to modern SL standards and tools that current phones are capable of and sell the updated version. But, since that hasn't happened, we're left with an outdated viewer and hopes and wishes for LL or the alternatives to make their own mobile versions of an SL client app. Oh, and by the way, didn't I mention Lumiya was already exploiting a free source code for the SL client, and making people pay for it? That probably has a lot more to do with the downfall of the creator and why the creator's own website has disappeared, because LL themselves sued Lumiya's creator out of existence. After all the source code belongs to LL. But nice try at pretending to be a know it all legal eagle. Good luck next time! 😏 👍

well you are a fun person. so being a fun person, means you get added to my ignore list, have fun with your theories.

If you can find Lumiya, or had it previously, your perfectly fine to use it. It has never been blocked access. While I agree. SL should have bought the project, or hired on whoever made it, they didn't and the creator of Lumiya is no longer interested in the project. You can't steal what has already been tossed aside. That's like saying people still own the stuff they threw out and left to rot in a land fill. It's abandonware. Just like you can rummage a junkyard for spare parts, you can do whatever with Lumiya, since the author threw it away, including the official site. So people can preserve it, or can take the source code and update it however they want. But Lumiya itself is a dead product itself. Creators that give up their projects and leave them for dead deserve no sympathy nor hallowed respect beyond what they did when the project was alive, which was to exploit free source code to sell the only working SL mobile client app that ever worked worth a darn. Granted it was a small price, but it was still exploiting free source code. Because it actually worked like the PC SLclient on phones was awesome, and why people paid for it, since SL and the official alternatives weren't offering anything close. And they still aren't despite the massive amount of demand for it.Supply and demand. The official sources aren't offering it, the unofficial are. Easy fix is for LL and the alternatives to get off their asses and make a mobile client finally. Until they have one that works, people will continue to search out for Lumiya, and use it at their own risk. It's human nature. Deal with it.

and then when the creator returns to her project and queries in her database of people using it that never paid, because she has that kind of data,  she could do a take down with a dcma on them or other legal means,  people play with fire, it was not a free product, it was a paid product.

I just ended up at a "safe hub" with a big cluster of completely unfamiliar avatars while using the latest Firestorm and everyone de-clouded pretty quickly. If it was right after appearance maintenance that you saw slow avatar loading it may have just been an empty cache on the LL/content delivery side.

I'm still getting slow loading at home, so hm

  9. Services like netflix, will only work for the avatar that's logged in, because of how the cookies and sessions work,   there are self hosted options you can use, but that requires you to have the upload and download ability to do such,  a 1gb connection download speed with a 10mbit up connection will not cut it.

I keep seeing outrageously priced regions for sale and I cant help to wonder is it a joke.  it would take over a year to gain any benefit from buying at a ridiculous price. are people really buying gf regions for such an absorbent amount of money?

some of them are trying to recoup their money on original purchase, but as cheap as LL has them now, people mostly over look these, unless they are a serious landholder already.

After September, 22, it will shrink down to the central sim (it's five sims now) and be accessible only to Patreon subscribers.

At Landmark you may want to donate, or you may want to subscribe to the Patreon she set up to avoid the closing:

So this will be a No from me,  I will never use Pateron.

Regarding the US Government, yes if taxes are not paid then fines and or prison can happen. But I just want to remind you that in LL's original release of this announcement is embedded below.

Notice the wording of: '...we have done our best to shield our residents from these taxes as long as possible, but we are no longer able to absorb them.'

It's understandable to question as to why to the above. And also it's understanding as to why the recent reactions to the LL + Caspertech announcement have been so loud on this forum.

It is absurd to have said 'LL cannot just thumb their noses at the US gov.' - clearly they did not.

I have heard so many people try this "well they should" and the SL actually has types that balk  at any and all taxes and fee's and id requirments and other items LL has to legally have on file,  the day and age of hiding online is almost done when it comes to financial transactions and hiding and not paying taxes,  the blame is mostly on the bad actors everywhere online, a stop had to be had and this is just the beginning to stop laundering and fraud.   many more items will come down the line from the US/IRS within time.

Coming back to add. Some of you seem to be upset that Linden Labs and Tillia have to charge fees. Some of these are for business and development, but many of these are government banking regulations that LL cannot just thumb their noses at. The US govt could and WOULD shut them down if they did not follow banking regulations.

Some of the fee's are nuts too,  I've recently stopped taking amex locally because of it,  visa and mastercard are 2.5% for me, amex is 12.5%,  I could not continue to eat the amex fee's.   People forget about the business behind the scene, without paying for staff, paying for aws, paying for all business expenses this would fold quick and then we would be without SL.    LL has to make a profit, LL has to continue operations and has to maintain it's legal status with taxes and such on a global scale.
