Actually we also need rigged cloth. Like Havok cloth or an equivalent. Then SL will be next to impossible to beat.

  2. Permissions get borked in SL. And all it takes is one item in the package with borked perms to screw it up. The creator has to check every item while rezzed in world and make sure every single item in the package has the correct permissions. Then send replacements to everyone that bought it. And replace every copy in every magic box that has it. Same as if a texture goes bad on a product. Every copy ever bought has to be replaced with a fix.

  3. Artists are not professionals. They are artists. As are most content creators in SL.

Again my issue is with an incorrect label. What II is proposing is a "Registered Content Developer" program. Not a "Professional Content Creator" program. By indicating a developer (this has more to do with programmed function and LL did most of the coding anyway) is registered then people will know their lawyers can get at the developer a lot faster and without a PI in theory. That is all it is. As for the idea this program will prevent bad things from happening? lmao. I'm sure there will be no shortage of griefers registering all kinds of drivers licenses for the sport of turning the grid into a massive pinball table.

  4. I don't mind LL wanting a copy of your driver's license for this. I mind them telling people they are a Professional Content Creator when all they really are is a registered content creator. A "Professional Content Creator" is cashing out to paypal the equivalent of over L$20,000 each and every day on average 24*7 all year long. Otherwise they are not making their full income from SL and are not a "Professional". While they may be a hobbyist with enough skills to make "professional looking content" it does not make them a professional.

So LL needs to change the name of the program to what it is: Registered Content Creators". Unless LL really is going to limit this stuff to the few actual companies LL is known to aid and assist ahead of the rest of their paycheck paying customers whom LL does not give the same anti competitive and possibly illegal assistance to.

  5. Are you a degreed game modeler and own or work for a game modeling company? If so then you should be allowed in. Because that is what a "professional content creator" is. Which means either LL is using the wrong description for registered hobbyists or LL intends to limit new features to only the few companies still making content for SL like Modavia.

I.e.; LL needs to post the blog article on this "Professional Content Creator" program so people can make/prepare for their decisions as to whether or not they will remain in business in SL.

  6. Yes you must select the correct GPU and (in the case of desktops) connect the monitor to the correct output (in case it is one with a seperate GPU card. You might be surprised how many people connect to the blue integrated video vga adapter connector)). And anyone with a dell needs to get the service tag code off the computer, go to support.dell.com, and go into the drivers section, enter the service tag, and find out what all driver updates you need. In particular what bios and chipset drivers are needed as these play a critical role where handling graphics through the system buss is concerned. If you need a bunch of drivers then remember to do system/bios first, then chipset, then audio, then the rest. If you find you are so out of date that the drivers you need first are not listed then you will have to figure out the file name pattern (the update installer should tell you what version is needed first) you need and go to ftp.dell.com and dig around to find them. (good luck but it is possible).

    Enjoy.

  7. It has 4gb ram and a geforce 220. It should run SL in high mode ok but shadows and ultra would have fps issues. The SL client pretty much caps at 1.5gb mem use before crashing anyway.

you really need a 560ti or better to have all the bells and whistles. I am already planning an upgrade to a 590.

I'm trying to figure out what  viewers have anything on them right now that would have a user able to alter the shared experience of users on the official viewer ?

none of them can force mapping or anything like that can they?

True online status violates the privacy of users that do not wish to be tracked. Shortly the behavior of the lsl function to get agent data will no longer return online status of other users. The functionality will be disappearing from third party viewers since their code would error out. Same applies to viewer identification tags. You will no longer be able to see what viewer people are using unless they make a group title with their viewer choice but you won't know what they are really using.

Essentially that is the first 2 big changes.

  9. LL is probably stacking regions more and more to a host to drop expenses. Rubber banding indicates the region host is memory swapping. I do not have any feeling or faith that SL is important to LL anymore. I fully expect LL to pile up the regions more and more until almost everyone quits which will justify shuttering SL. After all LL calls their customers names like "whackadoodle" and worse so LL does not want SL people around anyway. LL expects they will make billions on ancient decrepit text adventure games in a world that is far advanced and requires the latest gaming gear to play because of the incredible detail and increasingly massive polygon counts. Even xbox outdoes SL on every level.

  10. Apple corp recently got a patent approved that could potentially end all facebook games as well as almost all games/systems in which virtual currency (tokens) can be cashed out to real money. I think the time is approaching when we will need to raise a mass effort to ban software patents and eliminate all standing software patents because they harm the economy and stifle innovation. As with content creation, companies must be forced to continually innovate and improve to survive. The ones that want to sit back and be a parasite like a tick sucking blood from others need to fade away and go out of business.

ps: The SL "economy" is saturated with too many merchants at the moment anyway. ...

I don't think so. Odd how some quality creators somehow manage to market themselves effectively and bank good money while most sit on their hands wondering why the world is not kneeling before them. The best advice I can give struggling creators is to take a break and reflect on reality for a while. There are plenty of customers wanting to spend money out there. They simply cannot find you for one or more numerous reasons. Or you simply make content nobody wants anymore.

  12. Generally speaking SL will only use up to 1.5GB RAM.

There are many computer performance issues that can participate in SL experience quality. One of the most overlooked is age of motherboard. If it is an older mobo then the graphics card I/O is attached to the northbridge half of the chipset (chipset handles all I/O for all peripherals like mouse, KB, drives, etc.) If you have one of these older mobos then you can install the biggest and best graphics card and SL will still be slow because it is bottlenecking at the FSB.

I have never seen anyone discuss the deep technical factors involved. It is because of the mobo design that some people get fantastic FPS while others with the same video card get terrible performance.

  13. Your friend has to disable all media in SL. And uncheck autoplay before disabling media.

If your friend wants to listen to a stream at a venue then your friend needs to use something like winamp and get the stream url from about land sound tab and open the stream in the external music app.

After your friend finds a way to get a new IP address that is. Some ISPs change the IP address if you leave your cable modem off for 4 hours. A pain but it is the only way.
