...You actually CAN do this in one prim, but it might take some ...skills. Dolars never were earned easily.
Prove it.

Do you by chance have a bunch of slplugin processes remaining running after closing the client? if so then reboot.
-
How often is the computer rebooted? The SL client, once closed, has a tendency to leave slplugin processes running in memory that heat the graphics card. Most annoying.

If you are having to change "keys" then you must be gaming the system in an endless arms race that LL will win anyway.
I have not had to make a single change in over a year. Other than having to move a store away from one of the spyware griefer army's scanners set to intrude on my visitors.

So how will we know if they post a fix for the crash on startup?

Anything that kills off google is a good thing. The faster they marginalize themselves out of existence the better.
Just another opportunity for someone to step in with a superior solution that is not controlled by right wing idiots that believe invisible beings control the universe.

Dear Blondin,
I went to one of the "Happening Now" locations tonight. The overwhelming number of "avatars" that would not load that kept "shouting" random stuff with no conversational context was rather annoying. So I stated that object generated green text was obviious. One of the gesture bots immediately shouted "LL" and many unrendered avatars vanished.
You have work to do with permanently banning venue operators that are using non declared scripted agents so you can get them out of events.

This is the general conception, but take a closer look.Shiny along with the general rendering is much more natural nowSeeThe reason for this misconception is that the old shiny made things look like chrome where as the new shiny makes things look shiny. Since the old shiny was only good for one thing, and it drastically changed the color of the object in the process, that's all people used it for. So now when people turn on deferred they see a more subtle shiny that doesn't change the color of the object and things look horribly wrong. So I know this argument is going to come up again and again over the next 2 years, but fundamentally the old shiny is broken, and limited what you can do. The new shiny is much better but you have to make content with it in mind. If you still want to use the old shiny with deferred on then make the object fullbright. This response is accurate. I have had to redo textures on products to deal with the "issue". But to me it is mostly a matter of we got away with stuff before but no more. Such as some prim to sculpty tools that will produce nothing but garbage now. The right way is the mesh way going forward. Yes some large amount of content will break. But it was broken to begin with.
No I am not going to replace anything because LL finally unbroke something.
In addition LL had true reflectivity in the viewer years ago and took it out. LL needs to put it back in. IMHO

Try the latest beta viewer and see if it still happens: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/?lang=en-US
Pick the beta viewer
I've been playing with forcing the nvidia card to do most of the work and the results are pretty nice.

The only thing they might improve is the number of avatars in view and the time before it runs out of memory and crashes. (currently memory leak crashes viewer at 1.5 to 1.6 GB and it has always been this way on 32 bit)
Since the number of avatars would only decrease FPS to an unusable level then there is little reason, at this time, to bother. Maybe in 5 years when the computers and video cards can handle what we want. Battlefield 3 being the new ruler to live up to that will force thousands to buy new computers and video cards should be a serious hint.
Yea. This is the new measure to live up to:

The only relevant part: THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! (top ranked in search)
The harder some try, spending time and resources on gaming search, the lower they rank. All the while they could have been making moar better stuff.
The most simple most obvious things work best.
One of which is having loads of money to burn irl and to toss at your fun hobby so your classified is always on the main page of search.

Parcel size is irrelevant and people lobbying hard to get LL to artificially inflate their rankings because they have large parcels with little relevant content need to go back and make more relevant content.
If a person chooses to have a small parcel and a large parcel or 10 parcels in the same sim and chooses to group them all to increase prims for the store on a small parcel because of the small parcel location then they should not be penalized because mainland is a chopped up puzzle of zillions of small parcels.
People need to just lay off the parcel size thing. Nobody is being discriminated against. I hear people saying large parcels rank better and then others are saying small parcels are ranking better. Whatever. People are seeing what they want to see. The ranking is based on relevancy and quantity of unique content. And that is how it should be. Perhaps some other factors but I tired of trying to figure it out and if honesty doesn't work then SL isn't worth being in.
To all "SEO Specialists": I rank well on the GSA where I want to (long after it destroyed my business but oh well it destroyed the entire SL economy anyway so whatever I was not alone and LL gets $300 or so less per month from me as a result). I rank well on the new search. I changed nothing. I simply don't cheat. And not cheating works. You either make lots of unique items for the subject under search or you don't. If you don't then go find some other way to market your few items. A case in point is although I like to make jewelry I already know I cannot get any ranking in that market because the leaders have thousands of products and can make more as fast as I can. There is no way for me to rank in search for jewelry. There is only room in any sector for about 50 stores. If you don't get it then hey exercise alternatives available to you. Like perhaps focusing on something else like complete outfits that include jewelry and get your great stuff blogged so people will know about it. Or whatever alternative market works for you. There are millions of stores in SL and only 10 can be in the top 10. This whole business is beginning to sound like Highlander.

I have a 768m2 that ranks high in search. I also have another parcel in the same region that in group adds lots of prims so the 768m2 has lots of items set to search. More than a 768m2 allows. And that parcel ranks very high in the associated searches.
Parcel size is not up ranking. The amount and diversity of content that is not spamming is what ranks.

Relevance looks great. Some people will need to adjust their "SEO Strategies" though. The best strategy is to not try to cheat/game the system IMHO.

Eboni Khan wrote:It crashes on startup. It won't connect to send a crash log. I delete cache and all setting manually and it will not start.I run Kirsten Viewer and other versions of V2 with no issues at all.
Ah so I am not alone. This same issue exists on the builds that have the mesh code in them too. I do hope LL corrects this before wiping out a large number of customers lol.
-
Crashes on startup. crash logger cannot connect to server to send logs. This is common for nightly builds.
Has this been unit tested on windows or is this another one of those deals that only works on linux?
Now i'll go uninstall all LL viewers to and reinstall the beta viewer that works.
Oh wait. I think I see the issue. A programmer assumed the cache was in the default location and hard coded it instead of looking to see where cache is in preferences from previous installs.
2011-05-25T18:13:34Z INFO: LLTextureCache::purgeAllTextures: Deleting files in directory: C:\Users\(user name ommitted)\AppData\Local\SecondLife\texturecache\0
2011-05-25T18:13:34Z llvfs/lldiriterator.cpp(58) : error
2011-05-25T18:13:34Z ERROR: LLDirIterator::Impl::Impl: Invalid path: "C:/Users/(user name ommitted)/AppData/Local/SecondLife/texturecache/0"
The expected directory structure does not exist. So the program fails on startup. -
Please state what viewer and version you are using as third party viewers are not supported.
Now that that unpopular factor has been stated...
Make sure you define your cache location is a seperate location for all viewers/versions you use.
Try the current LL beta viewer.
If you have issues, such as a viewer crash, manually delete the contents of the cache folder, clear recycle/trash bin, and reboot. The slplugin processes can be hung running and cause various weird problems.
This one is going to be fun... Make sure you keep your objects folder down to 512 or less objects. (theoretically should be more but over 512? sheesh! (i'm guilty too)) Actually make it a habit to move anything that arrives in objects to a different folder and begin managing your inventory as though only 512 items would ever show in it.
Best of luck to you.

There is a lot of room for improvement on this matter. As it stands the free accounts are safer. This is backwards.
I would make suggestions but LL is not open to suggestions. All we have for feedback is the public jira and that is restricted to technical matters.
LL needs to look at itself and it's people hard.

Cerise wrote:How is this information to be reported to LL?
The contact information is in the, they ask for email to editor@lindenlab.com.Thanks.
This frequently violated rule made me chuckle:
- Is the venue arrival experience free of unsolicited group invites, notecards and other inventory offers? These notifications are confusing to many new Residents, who are unfamiliar with how groups and inventory work in Second Life.

Since the Destination guide is part of the web site that happens to also be in the viewer I am assuming this is the correct place to pose this discussion.
Some locations in the Destination Guide no longer exist. How is this information to be reported to LL?
Some locations in the Destination Guide have issues that are a potential detriment to the community and especially to newer customers. How is this information to be reported to LL?
Thank you in advance.
-
Some places are rather intolerant about various types of avatars. They should not be in the desination guide IMHO.
The biggest challenge I am encountering is most places in the destination guide are always empty or have one bot there 24*7. And some don't even exist anymore. LL needs to task someone to go evaluate all locations weekly and make sure only busy venues that are tolerant are in the destination guide. This is because the basic mode viewer will result in a higher attrittion rate for newcomers because it gives the impression SL is empty and the places they find don't want "noobs" around etc.
So far this week's test travels has confirmed Club Industry as a bastion of things happening. Club Industry should be at the top of the list for newcomers. Period.

Yes it is possible by using certain techniques that should be in violation of the TOS. I will not describe how. I will just say I have seen evidence of it elsewhere and discussions by estate owners elsewhere on contending with it.
So it is obviously possible to some extent.
As for the prim attachment you are curious about? If it is evil then sure it could be reporting your position to someone else. Detach it and stop wearing it unless you know what it does. Don't rez or wear things you are not sure of.

What is the error message you see when you try to log in?
-
I have not managed to go back and check every single thing but for newer stuff I just include a boxed one script low impact resizer script with the product. The customer can drop it in if they want. It has a self delete option.
The newer type of "users" (LL seems to call them users instead of residents) are unlikely to have any capacity to learn all this stuff. So the correct solution is for all wearables to be positioned and sized by buttons on the viewer overriding the mod permissions. This would eliminate the need for resizer scripts and make no mod stuff usable again provided users can kill the scripts in no mod content to erase the abusive scripts.
Texture and color changers are a different story. The solution to most of that is to make unscripted fat packs. Most people only use one or two color/texture combo options anyway.
Does Google 3D Warehouse - Terms of Service mean what i think it means?

The question will be commercial use clauses or denial thereof.
People just using for personal use are unlikely to be cared about IMHO. But you never can tell. See the problem is if the uploader to google uploaded a registered copyright infringement and a SL user then uploaded it to SL and distributed it then every person that received the infringement could be litigated/sued. (RIAA strategy: Sue all downloaders and offer settlement for $2500 to $5000 because it is cheaper to settle than to defend in court and they might loose and a judgment up to $150,000 be deemed by a judge. Yea edge case but possible and the RIAA does do this constantly and does get the tax free settlements. The housewife that challenged in the publicized case had to pay millions.) So yea use downloaded models at your and your customers' own risk.
IANAL so consult with your lawyer before downloading models off the internet. (oh and I know you know this Opensource)
