  1. Peeve: People on social media in the UK already wishing others a Happy New Year, when it hasn't even started yet. With the crappy year some of us have had, I personally feel the need to tiptoe very carefully towards 2024, not startle it, and not jinx it with premature NY greetings.

Of course I know the reason they are doing it is so they get as much of the "validation" as they can, so they have to get their greets in early. It's childish, annoying, and tempting fate.

I was about to post something else instead, in case I upset anyone, but you beat me to it.  Cookie?  Well, I have some Lebkuchen not yet eaten from Christmas, or gingerbread men, or .. well the rest is cake or chocolate.

This is the substitute video.  I don't believe the dead come back to haunt us but I don't mind ghost stories, and I very much like time travel stories.  This is both.

I also love a good ghost story, and generally love anything with Maggie Smith or Timothy Spall or Pauline Collins in it.

Then I went to watch (again) an old favourite, again ghosts and time travel,

I read the guidance to see if my giant Husky would fit in the "XL Bully" definition since it is not limited to just "Bull" breeds, but just based on their physical characteristics.  Apparently not, based on his shape and tail and coat.

Peeve: People bred 'em, people can ban 'em.  It's as if the gummint bred mutants, then banned mutants.

Got several husky dogs and a couple of Japanese akita dogs living in our neighbourhood, all as soft as brushes, well-trained beasts. My friend's shi tzu on the other hand, would take the fingers off anyone who got too close!

Next door neighbour's mongrel mutt bit through the postman's finger a couple of years ago. Good with children though apparently (so far).

Yep, that's how I feel about it.

A mentor isn't a bad idea though. It's not easy setting up genitals, or knowing that such things as INM exist. Collars require knowledge of RLV setups (if they are used to their full potential). There are a myriad of things to know, that can take hours, or even weeks to figure out when someone is new. I was one of them.

The placement of genitals in Second Life has always had me howling with laughter.

Guys, don't you have mirrors in real life?

I want to be able to simply go to my god damned profile that I have tended to and I am not representing myself as an "avatar" I am representing myself as a full bore human being, warts and all.  I want to be able to simply paste my *****ing profile to other people because I am not ashamed of it's content.  I am an adult and I know how to do adult *****ing things likje hiding my fetish groups and so on, you would be neary possible to say youve seen a more un appolofgetically and masterfully executed profile, except I dont talk about trash or role play crap, I ta;lk aboutr serious things, and i want simpoly to be able to have a direct god damned link yet its like evewrything on DDG is about setting up your profile for MORONS.  I'm a god level user, I just don't care to parlay with the other god level users, because I have low opinions of most of them with the exclusive exception of the right honorable medhue, the rigature meistro in every sense, but the rest, I would have nothing but piss and gall for most of them, so I want nothing to do with them.  All i want is my god damn profile simply easily WHAT HTML DO I USE because thats one thing I dont waste my cognitive faculty on, its something that the lindens should have made abundantly *****ing simple and clear

This is the only one I use and I it became too draining. I still log in, but just don't have any passion left.

I sometimes wonder if it is just me being weak or attracting the wrong people and almost everyone else having a very positive time in-world.

There have been some very negative experiences on this forum here as well, and I would say the negativity in the forums outweighs's the usefulness.

I used to do a lot in here, but the only thing left is DJing and I now want to do that somewhere else.

I also don't use any other, but have reached the point where, if I do log in, it tends to just be for a few short minutes, because I also have lost that passion for Second Life. I was ill a few years ago and had to take quite a long break, and then when I returned it just seemed to have become too much of a rat race, I was too far behind to even try to catch up, and didn't actually want to. It saddens me to feel like that, as I can tell it does you too.

Although I don't personally feel the negativity in the forums outweighs the usefulness, I can see why you would feel like that. Some threads can run on and on and on and become very tedious, and I feel it would be useful to be able to block threads, not just the people who are annoying or overbearing.

During my early years in Second Life, each week seemed to have a different theme going on and was enjoyable. Eventually I found my own personal place in the world and for a while it felt like there was a purpose. Now it seems to be a rat race, all about dressing up dolly, and I was always more of a wash and go and explore kind of person.

I never tried the DJing thing. That sounds like fun. If you're in the right type of venue. With there being a lot of places in Second Life, it must be difficult to find the right ones to be in, the right mix of people.

There was a post on this forum from a non mentor, reporting that they had been asked a question by a noob, and had responded, and were then "told off" by an Official Mentor, because only Official Mentors are supposed to give answers.

I'd like to think any official mentor who did that would soon be an un-mentor! I think that happened during the initial bedding in period. Generally, this current mentoring thingummy seems to be working.

    Though time will tell.

As far as staying on topic goes, I cannot visualise any Lindens or Moles venturing into anything other than vanilla adult-rated activities. (Shuddering at the thought of a Mole with a full latex body suit complete with strap-on!)

First of all, thank you for your valuable comment. As I mentioned in my main post, others see my avatar well, but this form only appears to me, and when I reinstall the head the problem ends, but I have to do that every time I log in to my account.
In addition, the device, programs, graphics card, and all drivers are updated with the latest version.

To the rest, I say: Thank you for your contributions...but all the solutions you mentioned did not improve the situation at all

What I hope is to get your experiences regarding the best settings for the  graphics card to be compatible with Second Life.

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (LAPTOP)

    REGARDS,

It certainly is a puzzle, and for sure you have come to the right place to try and solve it.

It doesn't sound like anyone else is experiencing this, and that is extra frustrating.

And as potty as this might sound, when you install the next version of the viewer, you might find the problem magically goes away. As we're all using different setups, laptops/PCs/graphics, and even viewers, sometimes a problem can be user specific, as it appears to be in your case.

I make it a point to steer clear of the Forum to avoid getting tangled up in any unnecessary drama, as I was advised not to. However, the post above seems to have a rather malicious intent aimed at defaming our Mentor. I couldn't stay silent in the face of that. No one seems to be stepping up to support these Mentors against these accusations, so I've decided to speak up. And this is going to be my personal response.

As a Mentor who dedicates time to the Welcome Hub at least twice a week (Asian time zone), I want to highlight the hard work and dedication of my fellow Mentors in assisting and guiding newcomers. I've witnessed Mentors spending 2-3 hours at the hub, sometimes skipping meals just to ensure there's someone available to help. The efforts of Viola Mole and Mini Mole in organizing and training Mentors are truly commendable. It's unrealistic to expect Mentors to be present at the Welcome Hub all the time, especially during the year-end break when many of us take time off from Second Life to enjoy real-life activities.

It's essential to understand that we, as Mentors, are volunteers. We aren't paid; we do this because we find joy in being Mentors. Our title doesn't grant us any special privileges in Second Life; it simply signifies our role in assisting newcomers. Wearing the Mentor tag at the Welcome Hub serves the purpose of helping newcomers identify us and seek assistance. There's no reason to be upset about us displaying our title in this context.

The fabricated chat supposedly from a Mentor demanding obedience is entirely untrue. I have never come across any Mentor chat or conversation that involves such demands. The negativity directed at Mentors is perplexing, especially since I've checked the Forum, and no Mentors have claimed or boasted about any power. We are not Linden staff; we are volunteers.

Let's join forces to make Second Life a fantastic virtual world. I always appreciate residents who come to the Welcome Hub to help newcomers. While my focus is on new residents, it's heartening to see everyone connected at the Welcome Hub. If you feel you can contribute as a Mentor, I encourage you to apply. Let's work together to create a positive and welcoming community in Second Life.

Welcome to Second Life forums, Maya.

I've been a resident of Second Life since 2007, was picked up initially from a Welcome area, and have always felt fortunate about the people I met during those first two weeks, because I found it all a very steep learning curve. As a believer of paying it forward, I always helped other people wherever I could, but as I took a break of several years, I find I am like a newbie all over again.

When this latest Linden initiative came about, to have mentors like yourself, a lot of us were skeptical, because of what had gone before. The majority though now are very much on board with it. You will no doubt see a lot of oldbies hanging around at the welcome hub, and most will still be wanting to pay it forward.

You'll get to know us all on the forums over time, Maya. It's a shame you were advised to steer clear of the forums. There is such a wonderful eclectic mix of folk here. Some are more helpful than others, and one or two (the minority) sit on the edges just waiting to pounce to point out "faults" with others. I still get this now. But you get to know, over time, who gives valuable advice, and like in real world, you gravitate towards those on the forums you get along with.

Our Zalificent, whose post you responded to, is actually hilarious, brutally honest, sharply cynical, and that's come from their own Second Life experiences.

It takes all sorts to make a world.

I hope you will stick around, read, learn, advise.

They were often referred to as "subtleties" and were very popular even on Meat days as entertainments between the real courses at banquets.

There was much use of sugar icing, "marchpane" ( marzipan ), and lots of spices. Castles built of marzipan and sugar icing with hard rock candy stained glass windows, with a candle in side for illumination, tiny cannon that actually fired pinches of gunpowder etc, fish courses made of sweet puddings, meat courses made of fish, etc.

Bland tasteless food was mainly reserved for the sick since it was thought to be better for them, hence "Blank Mange" White food.

I never heard that blancmange was for the sick. I've always only known it as a rather nice sweet dessert that resembled coloured and flavoured custard. We had cooks in the staff canteen of my first workplace (1979) who were "adventurous" in that they would attempt to oomph up these basic desserts. Unfortunately they often failed. What they called coffee bake (which I presume was meant to be a kind of coffee flavoured meringue) we younger staff nicknamed crispy topped diarrhoea as it was always runny and brown in the middle (*shudders*), and what was meant to be strawberry blancmange with melba sauce looked pretty nasty too and we called it open heart surgery.

When I am poorly I tend to go for comfort food which is most definitely bland; chicken soup, mashed potato, rice pudding, semolina pudding.

I hope I dream about living in a castle built of marzipan. That would be rather lovely.

Peeve: that I have no marzipan in the house and now I am craving it.

Recently, after I changed my laptop, I had an issue with my avatar's head and my right hand as well every time I logged in, forcing me to reconnect the head and body again. The strange thing is that others don't notice this. This situation also applies to my viewing of some avatars. Personally, I think the problem is related to the graphics card settings, but I am still suffering from the same situation. Thank you for your help in advance.

You either have very polite friends who won't tell you how strange your avatar looks (which is VERY unlikely) or as there is only you who can see this issue, the problem is somehow at your end.

You've probably already done this, but I would suggest you check that your graphics card drivers are up-to-date. If you have been faffing about with any of the settings within Second Life, that could also view what you actually see, without affecting the view of other people.

    Ditto.

Nowt wrong with being enthusiastic in my opinion.

If your SL looks full of walls or zombies or views or technical information, then that's what YOUR SL looks like!

    And I am loving it.

I agree this is not a thread for tech discussion, it is a thread for sharing pictures of things you enjoy in SL as per the OP.

I'm sharing pictures of what I enjoy in SL, not seeking technical discussion, along with the pictures I like to provide a little commentary explaining what I am doing in my pictures.

I must admit Stella that the posts you have been sharing, with the lovely narration, have made me yearn for the times I used to almost live in Second Life, where every week there was a new theme, and my brain was absorbing information like a sponge. Having had a few breaks, and lost touch with a lot of the goings on in Second Life, I find I've learned a lot of new things from your picture posts, because of the explanations. I guess I am kind of living vicariously through you now! Thanks. :)
