I’ve been saying this for years now.
What adds insult to injury is they seem to get away with it.
They seem to, but my guess is they get plenty of warnings from the mods.

When longterm users of these forums start with the toxicity.
I feel like there is a small group of very negative people here that run these forums and make it very unattractive to participate.
Due to past experiences here, I edit and re-edit and delete most of my replies here because of what to expect. It is very similar to when you live with an abuser, you must carefully plan your every move, because you never know how or when they will respond.
I walk on eggshells around everything I say here.
It is only a small group, but they don't run the forums, even if they may give off the impression that they think that they do. That's just their arrogance/narcisissm showing itself.
But we are all like crows and cranes, we all find our own level, the people we rub along with, and those we clash with from time to time.
And that's why I always come back to forums even after a break when I feel the balance is temporarily off.
No need to walk on eggshells. Just you be you, it helps with the balance.

People don't trust you enough to believe you are the avatar you represent as, but trust you enough to think you will answer honestly..?
That is a good point.

I think for a lot of people it does matter.
I know. Because some people really do come into Second Life to hook up with someone, like it's a dating agency for them.

While reading the "what behavior do you find off-putting" thread I got kind of depressed so I thought I would start an opposite thread. Let's see if we can have more responses in this one vs. that one.
I'll start.
I used to go to this now closed club and there was a hostess there that I was friendly with. We'd banter back and forth and it was a fun time. I came in for a set one day and five minutes later she sent me a gift from the MP. She IM'd me and said "I saw these and thought of you immediately. I hope you like them" It was a one off, nice thing to do.
I've run into this behavior much more than off putting behavior.
Nice thread to start, Sam We were in need of something positive on this gloomy January day.

Definitely good to find other people with whom to test "weapons" and fun HUDs that others might see as griefing tools.

I find it endearing when people do the opposite of using security orbs/devices to keep people out of their property and they actually put out welcome signs and gifts, sharing the goodwill.
I found it endearing when a newbie clambered onto the back of a flying bat I was riding a few days ago and sparked up a conversation that was more than just a "hi", even though English was not his first language. It was quite an interesting conversation.
I find it endearing when people generally pay it forward. That was one of my first experiences in Second Life. People pooling and sharing their knowledge about all the "how to" aspects of Second Life, and showing me interesting places they've found.

When I'm chatting with a man in world and he asks me if I'm a female in real life. Does it matter? Why does it matter? What the blinking 'eck is going on in his head? Happened again this week, so I said "Yes, a 60 year old female". My age seemed to dampen his ardour. Good-oh!
I ain't here to date, mate.

I just had a video in my YT recommendation about that weird 3-second--teletiktoksale-tactic that supposedly will wash over us soon. Made me wonder if it would be an interesting tactic for the surnames, you just get 3 seconds to look at them, and then must grab one or not, and you're stuck with your first inspiration, or second, or third, depending on how many your brain comes up with until you need to press the button. Or auction the ones with the most potential...? Ahah, no, but fun thought.
Didn't they call them blipverts in Max Headroom (and they caused people to spontaneously explode?)

I'm thoroughly enjoying reading through it all again right now. I don't need to come in on alt accounts. It seems I have several different personalities just on this one account! (Moody!)

We've done alts in the forums to death not that long ago, is it really time for that again already?
I must have missed it first time round so yes.

Ohhh I think I understand what you meant now. 😁
I suppose really LL should have all the other famous ones "honoured" in the same way. (But then perhaps they do in the form of region names.)

I would think one of the Linden people has bagged Terry Pratchett already.

Heck, no. If someone decides I'm not worthy enough to be their friend then that's fine by me.
Although I have blocked a couple of people in the past who have approached me on an alt account speaking up on behalf of their "wronged friend" - I've blocked them too.
Life is just too short and there are so very many people to be meeting with whom we are actually compatible.

So, actually, how my SL looked a few days ago.
I have very vague memories of the British scifi series "Space 1999" (1975-1977, I think). I gather it didn't get much air time in the US, but here in Canada it was in reruns on the CBC well into the 80s, which is when I must have experienced it. I remember the basic premise: the moon is blasted out of earth orbit and goes "wandering" through space with its human inhabitants on a moon station established there. I have only one really concrete memory of watching it though -- a scene where a window breaks and someone is sucked out onto the vacuum of the moon's surface. It utterly traumatized me (I was probably about 10 when I saw it? Or thereabouts?)
ANYWAY, a friend of mine is a fan of the series, and has built a pretty extensive reconstruction of Moon Base Alpha; he also equipped me with a uniform from the series which he or someone else had commissioned/made for SL, so I took a pic of myself for him there.
By coincidence, and the reason I'm even posting this really, @SlammedSam mentioned the series today in an IM to me. Synchronicity!
Not a brilliant shot, but I did look at some stills from the series, and it's not a bad reproduction of the look of the show, maybe.
I showed this to my brother in real life. He was (is - we get reruns here) quite a fan of Space 1999 and also of UFO. He says "you look very Barbara Bain".
I love it when I find places in Second Life that replicate real life places or are mock ups of TV shows.

Hmmm.. I haven't ever seen one of those. I wonder if it has anything to do with the opt in "extra account protection" 2FA.
No. Not in my case it doesn't. I haven't opted into any extra account protection. It was just a funny little quirk that was happening (apparently just to me?) yesterday.

Why, when I have never tried to steal a vehicle in real life, did I try to drive off with this one, abandoned by Abnor Mole? 😁

Not sure what the conversation is but we have ALWAYS been the beta testers for LL.
If the conversation is still about muggins here having to jump through extra security hoops to prove I am not a bot after all these years of being here before I can make each new post, then I didn't sign up to beta test anything.
Everything was annoying me yesterday. I'll check see if it is still happening today when I post this.
(Editing just to say, I posted today with no obstacles whatsoever. Go figure!)

List ALL sims without having to type keywords.
in General Discussion Forum
Posted
I know you asked for something specific, a list of all the sims.
There wouldn't really be any point, because the sims/regions don't have specific themes all that often. I mean, places like the Fruit Islands may well well be predominantly sailing sims, or on mainland it's the regions called "Blake Sea - " and then something else like Siren's Isle, which again are good for sailing around.
To avoid missing events, the best thing to do is look for groups that run the type of events you're looking for, such as Def Leppard tribute bands (or is that just me? ) or shopping or gothic or exploring, etc.
If I'm on a day where I feel I might be missing out on something but am not quite sure what I want to be doing, I pull up the world map and look for the places that have the most green dots and then teleport it. It can be random, fun, even dangerous at times, but it's never dull.
