When they were first released, if sat on them they would die after a short time. I don't know if that was a bug in the code or intended behavior, but they croaked.

They all would fall asleep, head in wings, at the same time, but if you bumped into one it would wake up, and that would weaken it and cause it to die!

We had some on a sky platform and some went missing, only to be found at ground level, starving hungry!

    Crazily addictive.

  2. Don't get me started on this particular nostalgia trip. The person who invented Sion chickens must have made a mint on the food etc., that we needed to buy to maintain these creatures. Our first chicken to hatch was called Mobit after a sandbox that we spent many a happy hour in listening to "Hold Me Now" by the Thompson Twins on repeat play. When it inevitably died we even made a grave for it! But then we discovered that some Sion chickens could be saved with some type of revival kit.

We stupidly bred far too many green ones - albeit different shades of green - so made the hard decision to cull them. Virtual chickens, but the cost (and emotions) were real!

Interesting blog on Word Press about them, and the creator being an "evil genius"!

We managed to hatch a black one one time, but they never survived for very long. Clever scripting. Very addictive.

Thank you for the warning. (Made me think of our Zaleficent for some reason!)

Ditto warning on this one. Hardcore, but I love it.

You know how when you're exploring and come upon a little hidden surprise? Like an unexpected visual trick in a build or a familiar bit of content vocabulary in a novel setting? Some Moles and Lindens used to be especially good at scattering this sort of thing around new continents. I love those things. I try to sneak them into my builds too, here and there.

When I read @elleevelyn's post, I made the connection: what I find endearing about these little surprises is that their discovery recaptures a bit of the wonderment that enchants a newbie's experience of SL.

This week I logged in and went exploring where the Meadowbrook Linden homes are and was nicely surprised with an unexpected treasure hunt and secret places to explore complete with gifts. It made this 16 year old resident feel that new girl enthusiasm all over again. Thank you to the Moles and Lindens involved on that one. The Meadowbrook homes are modern now but still have that old-fashioned (in SL terms) "feel", and again that took me back to earlier times in Second Life.

What if you cant get to the region to get about land?

Do as Rowan has suggested, make an alternative avatar. We are each officially allowed five accounts per household, and a lot of us have more than one avatar. Then with your alternative avatar you can visit the land and again follow Rowan's instructions.

Sometimes estate managers appear to ban people when they are updating the land.

And there are MANY other great places to visit anyway.

Always remember to read any rules that some landowners either place at the landing area on notice boards, or they often send you a notecard which goes into your inventory. Please read and respect the rules of the landowners.

Hey, you have every right to your full-bright hair and your system head.  No one has said you don't have that right.  I certainly don't care.  However, I'm not surprised at all that some places will not allow it or system avatars.  Is it being elitist?  It certainly is and venue owners are allowed to be.

I actually can understand, somewhat, not wanting to change your head.  A few people in the forums are still using one as they can't get the look they'd like from mesh heads.  What I don't get is clinging to old items that would not be changing your basic avatar in any way such as hair.  I don't know too many women who have only one or wear one hair for years let alone full-bright hair.   Men, of course, often find one hair they like and never change but then they don't have a whole lot of options for styles if they keep it shorter.  Women have a plethora of choices.

I think you'd have to walk around in another person's shoes to fully understand why some of us cling to our old look.

For me personally, the most I ever wanted to do to my avatar was occasionally change its shape, hair-do or clothes. I was never a fan of dressing up dolly but I know, of course, that MANY people in Second Life really enjoy this and shopping for their avatar the most. And your collection of hair, Rowan, has got to be the biggest and best. I absolutely adore looking through all the photos on the How Does Your Avatar Look ... types of threads, but really am not a fan of change within my own avatar or environment really.

I get a big old mental block if I even consider making time-consuming changes, and I'd rather use the time on something that takes less of my concentration but absorbs my thoughts completely.

I can't speak for other people of course, but for me this is why I don't much change my appearance.

In real life I just like to be clean and paid for but remain pretty much uniform too, sticking to the tried and tested capsule wardrobe.

I have gone slightly off topic - forgive me BilliJo.

One of the authors that I read and get periodic emails from, sent me a link to a Bookfunnel page of tons of free fantasy novels from various authors - to get you to try them out.  The books come via email, in Kinde epub format, so I can easily email them to my Kindle.

Today I realized that over the past week I have downloaded 160 free books.  🤣  That's a lot of reading that I've got to do.

I subscribed to something similar, for unlimited newspapers and magazines, including a lot of local newspapers, and magazines about steam railways, caravanning, living on the coast, DIY, knitting, women's interests ... and I just haven't got enough hours left in the rest of my life to read all I've bookmarked.

Because it matches with my full bright bunny tail *smiles*.

In fact, I've set some of my mesh hair to full bright to match my full bright bangs which i never remove. Everyone knows you can't "remove" bangs, you can only let them grow out.

That's one of the good things about having such a low spec computer. People having full bright anything or face lights or glowing neon gizmos just has never bothered me at all.

Your world, your imagination. And no doubt you are very unique.

Before I start, I wish to state this thread is NOT about parcels being able to set any standards they wish for avatars entering their parcel. There parcel, their rules.

Now, with that out of the way, here we go.

I answered a call in a group chat looking for people to come party at the groups club.

I tped over and was  greeted with this message:

    -------------

    [05:50]  Avatar Scanner  V0.8.0:
In order to create a classy and realistic environment for all, we have defined min and max body sizes for the extended  Club area at 3000m and the skyboxes.
Your body is too short according to the club rules (min. height 1.670): 1.655.
If you love our place, please consider to create a shape compatible to our club rules. If you remain as you are now, we will TP you home within 3 minutes.

    --------------

I got bounced, and made a comment about being too short in the group chat. A mod said, you got a problem? I said no. He said your hair is full bright too, that wouldn't work here. I said, no problem, I'll just leave the group, The mod beat me to it.

I'm sure he'd have bounced me for my system head too

Ironically, if I had been wearing heels, the height detector would have thought I was tall enough.

My question for the forum is: How far will YOU go to satisfy the arbitrary requirements of a parcel owner to satisfy their set standards, be it height, number of scripts, avatar complexity, clothing style, species, gender, mesh vs non mesh, etc etc etc.

As someone who doesn't really have a fear of missing out I found the rules of this club highly amusing. It makes me want to go there dressed like a gigantic adult baby (and I have never been an adult baby in real or Second Life before).

Seriously though, how far would I go ... I wouldn't bother trying to please some egotistical club owner or moderator within that club who strangely seems to have too much "power".

    (It's just too laughable.)

Listen, I've run bone dry on key words to type into the search, the " What's hot now" list never changes, and events are too transient and I always miss them.

Is there a way to just see ALL of the sims that exist, without having to type a key word, then search them by traffic like we do with a normal key word search? If not, there really needs to be. I'm truly tired of current list of Blues clubs from 2003, Troll-Island-10, Fire-Storm-No-Non-Noobs-Allowed-Not-Actually-Social, Lelutka, London-Get-Ejected-For-Being-Human,  that is the What's Hot Now list on the destinations guide. I would keep finding new places with key words, but I've tried all my key words :c..... Please let me just see all of the sims.. lol...

I know you asked for something specific, a list of all the sims.

There wouldn't really be any point, because the sims/regions don't have specific themes all that often. I mean, places like the Fruit Islands may well well be predominantly sailing sims, or on mainland it's the regions called "Blake Sea - " and then something else like Siren's Isle, which again are good for sailing around.

To avoid missing events, the best thing to do is look for groups that run the type of events you're looking for, such as Def Leppard tribute bands (or is that just me? :) ) or shopping or gothic or exploring, etc.

If I'm on a day where I feel I might be missing out on something but am not quite sure what I want to be doing, I pull up the world map and look for the places that have the most green dots and then teleport it. It can be random, fun, even dangerous at times, but it's never dull.

When longterm users of these forums start with the toxicity.

I feel like there is a small group of very negative people here that run these forums and make it very unattractive to participate.

Due to past experiences here, I edit and re-edit and delete most of my replies here because of what to expect. It is very similar to when you live with an abuser, you must carefully plan your every move, because you never know how or when they will respond.

I walk on eggshells around everything I say here.

It is only a small group, but they don't run the forums, even if they may give off the impression that they think that they do. That's just their arrogance/narcisissm showing itself.

But we are all like crows and cranes, we all find our own level, the people we rub along with, and those we clash with from time to time.

And that's why I always come back to forums even after a break when I feel the balance is temporarily off.

No need to walk on eggshells. Just you be you, it helps with the balance.
