  1. It's a problem but it's just one of those things you pretty much have to live with.  I am quite short in real life, only 5'1.5".  In SL I'm 6'8" and I'm usually shorter than most of my friends.  It's especially glaring when couples dancing. My head should be somewhere about their chest height if we were proportioned properly.  Instead I've either got my face in their belly or I'm dancing 2 feet off the ground.

Part of the problem is the camera perspective, and part of it's that people tend to idealize their bodies.  Most people think big is better so everyone is a little bit taller in SL.  Then because everyone else did it too, they do it just a little bit more in order to reach the top end of the bell curve. so we wind up with the 8 foot average height.  And the gravity defying bosoms. and the gargantuan hips and ass.

People are strange.  As for places that try to make rules about height, I just don't go to them.  I tend to avoid places that make excessive rules anyway, as that seems to foster attitudes I don't agree with.

  2. My goal has been to keep it under 100,000 but it's recently shot up to 131,000.  That should go down once I open my latest acquisitions and dump the meh items. I've no idea what I've spent over the years.  I know that once I started working as a host my spending shot way up and it's gone down quite a bit since I retired. I haven't bought Lindens since about 2012 though (when I started hosting) and now I'm just living off the proceeds from selling my mainland which I did in 2019.

  3. The one thing I really miss about California is the temperature in winter.  After living there for 30 years my blood is way to thin for New England temps.  Last night it was so cold, my door froze shut.  But that's ok, I didn't want to go out anyway. So glad I have a gas stove that I can sit in front of and just flip a switch to light.  Looks real pretty and good for thawing mittens on.

  4. I know the answer to this one as I only had a Kali Wylder FB account and none in my real name.  I was busted a couple by FB a couple of months ago and there's nothing you can do about it since we were violating their terms of service by making FB accounts with our SL names.  So if they ask for your ID, you're busted.  If you wait a few days, you can take your chances by creating a new FB account with some minor spelling differences to your old one.  I know one person who has done that every time she gets busted.

I didn't bother with that and just made an account in my real name and put Kali Wylder in the spot reserved for nicknames. The sad thing though is there are people that my old account was friends with who've since passed away and so I can't re-friend them.  That and all my history is gone and no way to recover it.  I hate FB.  I still use it though because I have relationships with people who use it.

  5. I know this is a very trivial peeve, but it really irks me when stores make their landing point so far away from the actual store and then give you no clue which direction you're supposed to go to find the store.  What are they thinking?  Then they make it a forced landing point so you can't even make your own landmark that takes you where you want to go.  What are they thinking? Done they want us to find the things they are selling?  Don't they want people to come back?

I swear, there is never a better time to set an alt up or Help a new user out than this time of year.. Just getting them into the groups let alone hitting all the group gift walls, not counting all the amazing gifts they are giving for Christmas..

I'm running my alt through, that I took through the start area a few months back.. I haven't spent anything on this alt other than what she has earned in second life.. I think it's gonna be really interesting to see how far she comes after going to these stores..

I went through there last night with my avatar, But only really hit a couple of the gift walls..  This alt needs everything, So it's gonna be really neat to see  the difference it makes ..:)

It's great, isn't it? I'm refurbishing my original av who retired before mesh became a thing.  She needs everything too.

  7. It's a wonderful thing they are doing, Lelutka is giving 2 new heads, one male, one female and they 53 other designers to join the giveaway.  But my problem is I don't have 54 slots available to join all those groups, so I was wondering if anyone knows which ones are the skin makers since those are the ones I want to be sure and join.

  8. I created a twitter account back in  2009.  I followed it for a couple of months checking in regularly to read and occasionally tweeting.  Then I dropped it but never closed my account, just hardly ever logged in.  I use it when I hear about a tweet in these forums or there's a link in something else I read.  Haven't tweeted anything since 2009, sure don't need another platform to take it's place.  But I suppose there's no harm in trying this Mastadon thing.  I rather doubt that it's going to enrich my life though.

Yes, as far as I've seen they seem to be high in both fat and salt, as is common with most processed foods. A paper I read a while back went as far as to call certain vegan substitute products 'hyper processed' because of the many steps they'd gone through to extract soy protein and then turn it into something with a texture similar to that of a sausage.

I don't have any oxalate sensitivity as far as I'm aware, but since both my father and my grandmother both have gout, I wouldn't want to take the risk and eat too much of the stuff anyway. But my tea I won't be without - I'm right now sipping on a lovely cup with 2 parts Assam and 1 part Lapsang and a healthy splash of milk; I think that no matter what diet one chooses to go with, it's important to find a balance between physiological wellbeing and getting to enjoy stuff. After all, what's the point of living to be a hundred years old if you never get to live a little along the way?

Yes, and Assam is one of my favorite teas.  I'm very strict with my veggie choices so I can spend my oxalate allowance on my tea.

  10. I have certain dietary restrictions due to oxalate nephropathy and plant based foods are my enemy.  Basically I have to be a carnivore.  I can eat as much meat fish eggs and dairy as I want, but I have to limit my plant foods - fruits veggies and grains to less than 100 mg of oxalate per day.  Since I still need the nutrition from fruits veggies and grains I have to be very selective which veggies I eat.  image.thumb.png.00ba0e71fb558688f4f52f113ff4690a.png.

And I limit myself to no more than 2 cups of tea per day since each cup is 15mg.

Oh.  That is Elon Musk's problem to deal with/sort out, whatever.  I didn't get involved in the political stuff on Twitter as it was so much mudslinging.  What I feared about the mudslinging is this:  Is this how our kids are learning to communicate?  I found that a bit frightening for the kids of today.  It's causing dividing lines for them and sometimes even hate.  But, there is nothing I can do about it other than suggest schools teach good communication skills.  I don't want to be on social media for that reason, kids learning how NOT to communicate.

Mhm. but frankly i don't care about the FTX guy, he is a citizen and i would do

the same if i knew that i 'd spend 5-10 years in prison to become a billionaire,

but what actually bothers me is how government agencies infiltrated these

massively used social apps in order to control / manipulate the masses.

I get that you two really want to talk about RL and twitter, but this is not the place to do that...

Most of the things I see people complaining about or demanding action on are things that they can already control by themselves.

    • An ugly build next door? Derender it (yes, use Firestorm already).
    • Bots in a club? Go to a different club.
    • Bots in your house? Change your land settings or use a security orb.
    • Landlord took your money and ran? Learn to not pay more than a week's rent in advance.
    • Someone being rude to you? Mute them.
    • Store owner being rude to you? Buy from a different store.
    • Ex is harrassing you? Use an alt and stay away from the places they know you go to.
    • Someone broke an actual RL law? Abuse-report it.  This is the only category that Linden Lab is certain to take action on (if guilt is proven).

The problem is not that they don't have the choice, it's that they are coming from a place of over-entitlement and the choices don't satisfy their need for uptimate power. These are the people who will call a customer service line in RL and demand that someone is fired.

I think it's a matter of perception and boundaries.  We all have the choice to control our own experience.  But extrapolating that control over my experience and wanting to impose it on everyone else boils down to expanding my boundary out towards infinity and not seeing where I end and others begin.  "I feel, think, act this way and so should everyone else".

Are you talking about government agencies , the media , WEF and stuff like that

or just the usual online folks who can't even name 3 countries in south east asia without google?

None of the above.  I'm talking about people in SL, the ones that barge in and start threads about something that riled them up and they want LL to do something about it. Like banning bots or stopping landowners from making their own rules about who can do whatever on their land, or wanting to make rules about who can fly over their land or how tall your avatar should be.

The same desire to control other people in SL that is also manifested in RL but as Dyna Mole gently reminded us, we need to focus on SL here.

I think the issue for me is knowing we each have a way we live our Second Life.  I may decide that I don't like something, and I don't want to see it, hear it, read it, or have it around me.  There is nothing wrong with having personal standards and boundaries and there are tools for me to customize and control my experience.

I think the problem is that some want to control what others see, hear, read, or have around.  I don't want someone else deciding what I am allowed to experience.  There is an old meme that I occasionally see that says something like "Something is against my beliefs, so I can't do it."  Fine. That is very different than "Something is against my beliefs, so you can't do it."

I cancel things from my life all the time but would never make that decision for someone else.

"the problem is that some want to control what others see, hear, read, or have around" (Highlighting mine) I think that you nailed it Cinn.  Everyone needs to have some control or choice of what they want to experience, nobody needs to have the right to inflict that control over someone else's experience.
