  1. Is this the official page where we learn how to use the thing? Can't find the official page with instructions. I freaked when it went up, because I thought that my baptist book club friends were going to be set loose on my harley-riding swinger friends. (not sure that would be good - works great in physical world if there's lots of liquor involved) Set it to "nobody" real quick, but I don't think that worked. Didn't seem to catch, stuff was rolling down the page. So anyway, got with the program to use it, because friends had tons of questions and not sure how to answer them. I have no idea what the other people on my friends list are seeing. I checked most of my friends profiles, and I don't see anything streaming down the page, and this is probably good because I don't think they are the type to use this. Was worried about people who have not been inworld in months and may not come back, and wondered what would happen to their profile page without them controling the setting - not sure what the default is. I love Twitter! But most of my inworld friends do not. And maybe 10 people out of 800 people in store group use twitter. It looks like a great place to post events. Might be great for venue owners and DJs. Unless the majority of people turn it off. Looks like a great place to schmooz with Lindens. It doesn't compare to Google+ at all. Google+ was for world wide networking. This isn't even inworld-wide networking, as most will probably leave it off. It appears that if you post a comment to a friend...that it will appear across second life as it travels on their page to others. Better check on that. There are comments on my stream to friends, that came from people who are not on my friends list. Be aware of that, and check on your control settings - but not sure if that controls it. Not sure what happens if you set the control to Everyone - assume that posts on the web. Don't really want to test it and pimp out all my friends. Doubt that many will set that to Everyone, but you better watch if they do. Looks like everyone is going to have a shuffling of the friends list that might involve separating the Immersionists from the Networkers. That's a big bummer. Many activities and interests overlap fine. This particular one does not. I think that whenever you apply something that causes a huge divide or separation in your customer base....rocky road ahead.
  2. Thanks Rockridge - understand those should be working soon. But that's not what I'm saying. Saying...I don't want LL hands on my Persona Package...or even in the pockets. I already had about me pages. Seo was fine. Hits were fine. I added MORE. I busted out major effort last few weeks - hits off the chart. The fact that I'm bustin' out major hits, and have been for some time...is exactly why those hands are in the pockets. I'm sure that new social networking style profile will work perfectly for many.
  3. Hi Freya - you're a trooper! thanks for checking again. It changes depending on whether or not I'm logged into a second life page. I had some others check from another computer, and it changes, hit or miss for them as well. Not consistent. I need an about me page that does not require a second life log in page. And has consistent access. I meet people on the Internet that do not belong to second life. No - those pages are not necessarily about me. My whole life does not revolve around fixing borked delivery problems from marketplace, but that's all I have room for on the one profile. Although, good portion of day spent on that! And a forum profile that only registers threads where I come in and ask for help that never gets answered by a Linden....with a wee bit of space to write something that you need a magnifying glass to read....nope, not workin' for me. And I'm sure some others are having some challenges with that. Particularly if you have to use one profile page for both business and other stuff. Maybe new profile system will help a bit. But it appears that your avatar name and being is cloistered and under another's control. Head smack! Should of known that from day one, but you get carried away and one thing leads to another..... Doubt there will be confirmation on that ...as that particular enlightenment would be awkward! Thanks Freya - if you need help with anything, let me know.
  4. Yes, Perrie - I came up with same results for you. My oh my...you have an interesting batch of topics there! That's one level that might be a problem for people who do not realize that their thoughts and subject matter are being exposed with their name. This has been a concern of mine for many, many months. But boy are you up against a wall there. I think that as I see and meet people inworld that through the course of conversation, possibly mention that their profile is now very prominent in a google search and that posting in forum leaves a record of thoughts. Like you said...that privacy on the Internet is really dwindling. I was considering quite a few other aspects. Not enough hours in the day! With LL choosing an "about me" page to plug in there...I've lost control over marketing. And I was doing really good with that. Almost. Working really hard to get another about me page to show up soon. They've chosen two pages...that's excessive, and it controls the search a wee bit. One page is pretty much worthless and not good marketing for either us. What is to keep them from choosing three or four or five more pages to keep that control of sending people directly to main site - - and in this case, when I click on the link, it totally cancels out Mickey. I clicked on one of those links I think it was yesterday, and granted, what you will get changes each time you click....but it said that I was a "resident" of second life. I'm a bit uncomfortable with that, as I've tried really hard with twitter and blog posts to explain to people not currently using second life that not everyone goes there to "live" and escape and give up real life. Many think that's what the majority do. I don't want to make a judgment on that...there have been some times that I "escaped"...plus I used to build a "home" there frequently, have one halfway finished now, and my customers might feel they live there...I really don't know. But I don't want LL to start slapping judgments on my name and what kind of lifestyle it is associated with. I've worked really hard to explain to people that the venue is used for many different things. At the beginning of the year, the CEO called us "customers"...so be it. Works for me. There is also another level creeping in with this whole google+ thing on not being allowed to use avatar names or "fake" names or pseudonyms or whatever you want to call them. Have you been keeping up on that? holy cow. But it really did make me think about how much I identify with that MIckey name on the web - it's ME. People are worried about all the controls being put into place on the use of those avatar names....and I've advanced to a level on that, which is a bit more worrisome than google+. Hence the question on that.
  5. Thank you Pierre - great video. I see the same thing that Griffin and Pussycat see. I realize that not everyone will see the same thing. But it's those two particular "about" pages with a second life link that I am asking about. Linden Lab will know what I'm talking about. Sorry this ended up in general forum. And also asking if we are able to use our avatar names across the web. It appears that there is a surge on LL promoting those. For some people this could be a problem.
  6. Thanks Pussycat - never did know how people were doing that - appreciate it.
  7. Yes, Pussycat and Griffin - that's what I'm getting too. Thank you for the screenshot - I'm not sure how to take one of those.
  8. Since you're not doing any marketing...no, you probably wouldn't understand.
  9. Hi Freya - I think we would be sunk without a profile! Definitely have to have those visible. On the first link you gave, that would be a great presentation, but that's not the presentation they're sending people to via all my web networking. On the second link, it gives you this: Welcome to My Second Life. Second Life profiles are now web-based! What does this mean? All resident profiles are finally available outside the Viewer on the web! Privacy settings are inherited from the Viewer. Share and Like profiles, picks & classifieds. Stay tuned for more to come... Join Second Life or Log In and the web address ends up as this when you click it: https://my.secondlife.com/ that says nothing about Mickey Vandeverre, which was used in the ad copy. On the third link it says this: Welcome to My Second Life. Second Life profiles are now web-based! What does this mean? All resident profiles are finally available outside the Viewer on the web! Privacy settings are inherited from the Viewer. Share and Like profiles, picks & classifieds. Stay tuned for more to come... and the web address comes out as this: https://my-demo.secondlife.com/ No Mickey name there, as implied by the copy that appears in the google search.
  10. No Griffin, that's not what I'm saying. Google search has been our friend in marketing this year! (except for that google+ issue going now) What kind of marketing are you doing for your store this month?
  11. Thanks Freya - but they don't look fine from my computer. Hiding profile is not an option.
  12. Hi Freya - are you logged in when you get those? I'm not logging in. Testing without a log in.
  13. Just to be clear - here is the way you've titled one page: About Mickey Vandeverre - Second Life Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type. Mickey Vandeverre. Member Mickey Vandeverre ... -------- that's linked to an obscure page - a profile page from forum. It's very odd that keeps popping up, particularly considering all the blog hits I get. You're aware of those bitly and blog hits - you can see that in your Marketplace stats. the next listing that keeps popping up is this one: mickey.vandeverre - Second Life Mickey Vandeverre is a resident of Second Life. Join Second Life to connect with Mickey Vandeverre. Second Life is a free 3D virtual world where users can ... ------- and most of the time I click that - I get this page: https://my.secondlife.com/ there is no Mickey Vandeverre name on that page, so it's like a misdirect or something - I don't know the lingo. Do you...in fact...own the Mickey Vandeverre name and persona? If so I will retreat back to my workshop and tell my 3700 twitter friends that I can't play anymore. Or I'll just close the store. Can you clarify whether we are allowed to be our virtual world names outside of the inworld log in ? It's basically ME - just using a DBA name. It's never been a problem before.
  14. Good morning Linden Lab. The profile pages that you've plugged heavily into the google searches, you might want to check on. My page in particular is not working most of the time. It's the page that you titled About Mickey Vandeverre - Second Life, then tagged to show really high in a google search. It's hit or miss, but most of the times that I click on it - my profile does not come up, but rather a Join Second Life Page comes up. I really don't want you using my name on that sort of page considering all the marketing that I do on the web. Feels like you are trying to snag some of my efforts. But I'm unclear on whether or not you own the Mickey Vandeverre name. I'm starting to suspect that perhaps you do. I don't know. If you're going to snag efforts like that - you don't even have the page geared right. I posted this here in the Merchants section...because it effects business marketing. I've written blog posts about it and this morning I sent a support ticket to you under the title "account compromised" - it was the closest category that fit. I'm not sure how else to reach you on this matter - I've tried everything.
  15. ok. got your answer today via google. either that, or there were several interesting coincidences! ouch. carry on.
  16. I'll expand a bit, while I'm hustling on Sunday, so when you get back on Monday....perhaps a bit more clear on what I'm talking about. For most of year, huge attempts with blog updates and twitter networking and constant new products and promos on marketplace have positioned my name and store name quite effectively on google search, thus when typing in either, you would generally get: Twitter Wordpress Blog or Posterous Blog Marketplace Listings - quite a few. Then more blog posts. This worked very well for marketplace sales and inworld visits. Which benefits both you and me. Now....it appears that you're really pushing the forum and personal profiles, which are direct hit to your main site, which I don't knock, as I've promoted Second Life joins for many years. However....as one who is not independently wealthy, I must sell a few products in order to devote extra time to general second life promotion, and I'm sure you would understand this. The Marketplace listings have taken a nosedive in the general google search...underneath your profile and forum promotions using my name. It appears that you've ramped up efforts on seo on this. But those are not the best "first impression" for a someone who wants to learn about what you've got going on. Very limited. I'll spice up profile this weekend to try to help, but would really prefer that they go to blog for first impression. The forum profile is extremely plain and bland. Will work on that as well, but still....much better first impression for me AND you...if they end up at blog with pretty pictures and marketplace and inworld links. Now....if we stop posting in forum....would this perhaps reduce the forum profile's advantage in a general google search? Would setting our inworld profile to private take it out of google search? hate to do that, but under the gun here. Did you realize that the Marketplace listings got shot down the page once you ramped up profile exposure efforts? Is that wise? Those had huge impact on that first page. This certainly benefits both of us. I'm ramping up my own efforts this week on the Wordpress blog to see if I can get it back up into the right slot - but gotta hand it to you - you wiped out Wordpress seo big time! Here's an example, and I'm going to ramp this up big time - hopefully will cure the above problem: http://bit.ly/pMhwTZ That's a much better presentation than a forum profile, for sure. If you would like - I will post a link on my blog pages to join second life...if you could take some seo tags out of both profile links - fair trade. I really don't think that the profiles are optimum presentation for either of us. Very limited. Thanks for taking this into consideration. eta: adding one more thought.... having to use the profile space to explain to people what to do on a marketplace Failed delivery - and that has to take top billing, as it's been a bit of problem, and don't want them to feel stranded. This is awkward advertising for you.
  17. Maybe you're on right track, Medhue...maybe not. You know that Facebook thing is huge. There were a few articles written about that. I've been doing some unscientific research this weekend, and I realize that a google search might customize each person's search a tad different.... But on the searches that I'm doing, it appears that the larger social networking circle that one has built up...generally it's twitter...the more likely your forum profile or link to forum pics will show up very high. Also, those who have a wiki page on the second life main site, that is showing up quite well too. Above their store listings or personal blogs, actually. So if you want to work it from that angle....looks like you need to really build up that twitter following. I'm not really keen working that angle, as the profiles are very limited, and would prefer that anyone I meet through social network go straight to one of my blogs. You would think that a few names that use the forums every day would just be jumping out at you in that search (seems like there should be a correlation there).... but not what I'm seeing. And all these months thought that LL might not have a clue on how to use social media. They most certainly do.
  18. I spend fair amount of time each day, each week, each month, each year...working on getting people to the right resource. As do many others. Looks like LL is paying attention.
  19. "appears" that they've kicked it into high gear on getting the profiles high rankings. also "appears" that those who do major networking and promoting on the web....their forum profiles score very high in the search. Very Interesting!
  20. Question for Lindens - Just recently have noticed that the forum profile is showing up in google search way above all the marketing and advertising that I've been doing for years, and I would like to know how to remove that profile, please. It appears that the generic inworld profile has made a large jump as well in the google search. I have no qualms about my forum profile being public. I understand that might be part of the game. But it appears that the forum profiles of those who do major marketing and promotion on the web have an unusually high ranking in a google search, in which case all our branding will lead directly to the second life main site. I find that awkward. Please advise on how we can adjust for that, so that our marketing and branding will not get drowned out, and definitely so that there is not an "appearance" that all of our personal efforts are being directed toward your main site. Thank you.
  21. Well, this is a bit off topic about "forum" promotion perhaps, but I didn't notice that forum profile link sitting up so high last week. It's the forum profile showing up there at top spot on google. Not the inworld profile. Someone else will have to check into this, because I can't remember if I set my inworld profile as private or not....but it's the "forum" profile that is showing up there. So....someone with an inworld profile that is supposedly "hidden" will have to check their own second life name and see if their forum profile shows up there. Looks like two different things to me. That links to all your posts and thoughts in forum, so something to consider. Knowing that the "topic" you are responding to showing up with an easy google search is one thing, but having your avatar name forum profile show up at number one spot in google search might be yet another thing for some people. Just sayin'. And Canoro...I hate to be the one to break this to you, but the Internet is a wild and crazy place, and seems like everyone these days is demanding "real"....so you can't really be assured that you are safe in any case, whether you want your real life info on display or not. Crazy things. Haven't seen our resident privacy experts here in forum lately, but betcha they could fill you in big time on that. Those social networks are not going away....and they are becoming HUGE.
  22. Unfortunately their listing page thingamajig defaults to the "renew" enhancement thing, and would imagine that most people don't catch that. You have to go back and adjust that. The featured enhancements have worked very well for me, but it took some practice. It's just like physical world business - you will spend some time, effort and money to experiment until you get the right mix. The right mix involves packaging and price and store presentation and selection and promotion and marketing. Lots of tweaking to do there. Takes a while to do that. Months maybe. If you need a place inworld to try your product sales out, let me know...I've got several people reporting good sales out of an open-air market that I just set up, and for now the booths are free. I'm doing web promotions on that, so you get a taste of whether or not your product will sell in general. If you've only got 10 to 20 products....you're probably going to have a tough road making some profit, unless they are just outrageously amazing. And I think that only fits with Bax Boots and Meeros. Certainly doesn't apply to mine! So you have to work super hard and have a huge amount of product to experiment with.
  23. There IS mass media. That stuff you call "Faceslap and Twit"....and it's where it's happenin'. If you're not using it, you're out of the loop. And there's a new game in town called GooglePlus, but wee bit of a glitch there, as they are require "real" sounding names, but many second life folks are already there anyway. There is also Flickr and Tumblr and Wordpress and Posterous and some other places I can't think of names right now, and a ton of second life folks using those to the max. People are not inworld all day long, and the web is their way to stay in touch. Promoting Music, Art, Education, Fund-Raising Efforts, Marketplace Merchandising etc.....and all that stuff that goes into "living" in second life as well. We've been cloistered. For lack of a better word. FINALLY they are making attempts to get ya'll into the world. If you don't want that, then lay low and enjoy your inworld experience and keep your profile hunky dory.
  24. They are promoting them way too much for my taste! And I'm a hard core promoter. Type your name into a google search or type a popular topic from forum and you'll get the picture. My forum profile now appears above any other marketing that I bust out in a big way, and not too thrilled with that. Anyway.....you've got nothing to complain about. I don't think they should promote them. I complained forever when they appeared on the dashboard, as some of the threads were quite embarassing. I don't think that these threads are a proper sampling of second life. The opinions are like .00001 percent of the population. Proper sampling would be those who are active inworld and not complaining, and those folks won't be in a forum or message board for the most part. You don't want people in forum beeatchin' all day...you want them inworld having fun. Not too thrilled they are pimpin' my name out above all my marketing efforts in order to advertise forums, but I suppose that's google's efforts. If that's how they're going to operate - I'm going to go get a big honkin' banner ad made. Promise I won't make make it flash, though. The marketplace ads score way high in google searches, so the folks at Linden Lab have this google thing down, and should be patted on the back for it. Not every company can get that down. Maybe go a bit easier on whatever it is they are plugging in to get our profiles so high up, but all indication is that is the direction they are headed with new web based social networking type profiles, so will just get used to it and try to behave in forums. It's all about being pimped out. You better behave on your profiles too. Looks like you're going to get a spotlight. Careful with those real life pics tying you in with the bondage ranch.
  25. it wasn't in email. probably came across screen. several groups passed it along. and not sure how much it related to marketplace. I replaced a list of items that someone purchased this afternoon, but they were inworld when purchasing. I don't think they send anything via email.
