  1. So your "passtime" has been running the business and all that it entails. And you may well have treated the business as a game. I did too for almost 6 years. The profits were the score, high search rankings generated profits, and I am very good at getting top search rankings. My life in SL was a game to me - just like yours is to you. But none of that has ever made SL itself a game. Games have gameplay. We all know that. SL itself doesn't have gameplay. There is no goal to achieve like games have. We all know that too. So SL is not a game. Football is a game. It has gameplay. Tiddleywinks is a game. It also has gameplay. Etc. etc. etc. In all games, if you don't do the gameplay there is nothing. If you don't kick the football and try to score goals, there is no football. If you don't try to flip the tiddleywinks into the recepticle, there is no tiddleywinks. SL doesn't need you to do anything for it still to be SL. It's not a game. @16. I like your "playground" word

It's not a game, simply because it doesn't have any gamepley; i.e. there is nothing to play. Yes, there are some small games within it but SL itself simply isn't a game. I can offer you a word to describe the nature of SL - it's a 'passtime'
  3. I didn't solve it. I haven't seen it in years, maybe because I don't spend the time making things like I used to, although I don't see why that would prevent it from happening to me. I rarely move at all, so maybe I don't see it because I'm not doing anything that might encourage it to happen. The only suggestion I can make is the same as when you're writing a document. Save often - in case the computer or programme crashes. In your case, it's move often, to make sure you're still logged in. If you're making something it's, take a copy often together with move often ETA: Because of what Wrable wrote, I'll say that my bandwidth has increased enormously since I used to have the problem. I think I was on 4Mb at the time but I'm on 100Mb now - increased in several stages. So, if my ISP had anything to do with the cause at the time, the cause would have disappeared as I increased the bandwidth.
  4. I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem or not, but something very similar used to happen to me - and others. It was called the 'silent crash'. What happened was I'd be making something, moving it around, and so on, but I wasn't actually logged in. I'd already crashed - silently, so that I was unaware of it. The reason I was still able to move and adjust things was because the browser already had those things and I could continue. If my memory is correct, the time I realised that I'd silently crashed was when I tried to move my avatar. I was rooted to the spot. I could pan all the way round, etc. but my av was rooted to the spot. I don't know if it still happens or not, or, if it does, if that's what's been happening to you, but I thought I'd offer it anyway.
  5. I see we're back to "Your world. Your imagination."
  6. Just opt out. Governments and law are just huge confidence tricks anyway, so opt out Nobody gave anyone the right to have authority over other people. Nobody has the authority to give other people such authority in the first place. We are all just people. None are better than anyone else and none have anything intrinsic about themselves that gives them the right to make rules for others. Of course, some people have set themselves up with such authority, but they only have it because people let them - a giant confidence trick.

She mostly finds great fault with whatever is in front of her at the time. She reminds me of someone from years ago. I've never been a union person but I was necessarily in a union for a short time. We had a shop floor meeting about a pay rise. One guy at the back kept shouting any negative thing that came into his head on the subject - just for the sake of being negative - a super-fault-finder. At one point he actually shouted "We don't want a pay rise!", just for the sake of shouting something negative. He really did. The rest of what he shouted was against the company, etc. (that he'd only just joined a matter of days earlier), but that one took the biscuit.

Don't answer that. I already know the answer - nothing. i talked to my brother about hosting an open sim type grid .. he has 2 young children & doesnt have time for it .. i prolly will explore other virtual worlds eventually .. & if i find something i like better than SL ill be thrilled .. for the time being tho .. i like SL .. i just dont like the corporation that milks it as a cash cow w/out dealing w/ griefers or providing any useful user assistance & who arbitrarily imposes ToS w/out any input about what WE want You don't have the right to want anything in SL. You're merely a guest here, and guests don't get a say, or even a view, in how things are.

Rotsuoy Demina wrote: If I contact LL and they can get my $L back, would it be unwise to attempt to purchase the item again, and would they just shake their finger at me if I lost my money again on the same item? The marketplace is riddled with faults so my answer to your questions are, (1) find the item you want and then go to the seller's inworld store to buy it, and (2) I don't believe that LL would wag their finger at you if you tried to buy it again and failed. It's their system and they must back it up. It's not like you are buying directly from another user.
  11. This poster (lingoes) is brand spanking new - the ink is still wet. It's 3 posts don't properly fit the threads they are in and look like they will turn into affiliate links in the not too distant future - common method of forum spamming. I've reported it.
  12. It's all part of growing up and learning that actions have consequences - sometimes undesirable consequences. Maybe if you follow the appeals procedure that someone linked to, you may be able to get into SL again - and maybe not. All you can do is try.
  13. Yes, LL gets it wrong sometimes. The large "Objects" number in Jenni's screenshot really means prims, and the "Active Objects" number means objects. They got the word for prims wrong. I'm sure there are other places where they get it wrong too. But we generally know what the word means in those cases. It's in things like chat and posts where it's best to use the precise word - to help with clear understanding
  14. It would make things clearer if you used the word prims when you mean prims and objects when you mean objects. E.g. a single unlinked prim is 1 object and 1 prim, but 2 prims linked together is 1 object and 2 prims. You've used the word 'objects' at times when you really meant prims I was the one who, in your other thread, said that it's LL and it wouldn't surprise me if they failed to accomodate Land Impact at sim level. The Linden you quoted effectively said that they failed to accomodate Land Impact at sim level. However, I don't believe him. I think he did what someone suggested and looked it up - and found out of date information. If what he said is true, then some parcels using Convex Hull (or None) to reduce the Land Impact of objects would cause other parcels to disallow their correct allocation of prims - an unlucky 1024sqm parcel wouldn't be able to accomodate 234 prims, for instance. The Linden did well to check it for you but he did bad because he checked the wrong place - imo. ETA: Jenni's post confirms it.

  16. It's a part of the html page that is at the top. That zonkster Title shouldn't be there at all. It looks like your system has been compromised. If I had that, I'd remove the viewers from my computer, and everything associated with them, run a full anti-virus check and then install a viewer from scratch. ETA: it turns out that zonkster is "a short messaging service that lets users send IMs to any resident inworld from outside Second Life". So that bit is ok. If it's only on your screen for a short time, such as during logging in, I'd ignore it.
  17. Loki Kahanamoku wrote: I should have been clearer on what I was saying. I was told to change the basic shapes etc that were not scripted or twisted or sculpties. Yes, change basic objects, but try it on others too - you never know.
  18. Loki Kahanamoku wrote: I do have a support request in to LL to try to find the answer. But, the guy I spoke to last night in live chat didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Live Chat isn't manned by LL employees, and they have little to no experience of SL, so that doesn't surprise me.
  19. It's an interesting question. Certainly parcels can go way above their standard prim allocation by using the convex hull option on objects, so you'd think that a sim can go way above its standard 15,000 prims. But it's LL and it wouldn't surprise me if they failed to make the change at sim level. Incidentally, changing all your objects to convex hull is bad advice. You need to change only those where it results in a lower Land Impact than the number of prims in the object. Objects with scripts in won't reduce and will often increase, and complex objects, such as a dining table and chairs made with 1 prim will actually increase. (There's no pointin changing 1 prim objects because the Land Impact is never zero so there's nothing to be gained ) So be selective about which objects you change. I.e. when you change each one, look if the number increases or decreases.
  20. Shaeria Greymoon wrote: I'm a bit confused here Peggy... Live chat personal have little to no experience with SL? what are they doing on the support staff then? Live chat used to be manned by Lindens. Then LL farmed that particular support out to a support company in England (surnames were OnTyne). Then they changed support companies to one in the U.S. (surnames are Scout). In other words, Since LL staff stopped doing it, Live Char workers have little to no experience of LL and SL, and Live Chat support has deteriorated a lot. They can do some things but they are very limited.
  21. It's calendar month. As long as you own some land, your billing date is always the same date each month, and on that date you pay in arrears for the previous month's peak useage. Note that your are paying for tier, not for land; i.e. peak tier useage. So, if you have some tier donated to a group, but you don't personally have actual land for that tier, you still pay for it.
  22. I can let you have the MLP system. It was always a freebie. You could put it in your existing bed (after moving the bed's current contents.to your inventory) and 'play' with it so you get used to knowing how to add animations and adjust their positions. It comes with a few mediocre animations so it's easy to play with and get the hang of. Let me know if you want it and I'll send it to you.
  23. Probably most sex beds use the MLP system, and the freebie bed you already have almost certainly uses it. As Amethysat said, you can put your own animations into it. It's very easy but you do need to know how. The MLP system comes with a notecard that explains it, so check the bed you have and read the notecards. If your bed does use the MLP system, open the notecard card called .readme. It's near the top of the Contents. Scroll down to the section headed TO ADD ANIMATIONS and take it from there. Once you've got the hang of it, it's very simple.
  24. The major problems with the marketplace are for sellers, not buyers. LL has made a right pig's ear of it.
