    Hello all and Happy Hollidays.

One of my SL friend tell me today he want to open a sim with gladiator arena and some army fields. So i need  to update my old avatar, but i dont know  what mesh body to use, what mesh head, so i need some sugestion and some help.  The avatar must look like a gladiator but also like as a trained soldier. my budget is a bit limited.Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

    thank you verry much.

What does a bit limited budget mean? No use to suggest items that's too expensive. We had people asking for full mesh avatars, hair, clothes, body and head with just 1000 L to spend in total.

Do you need everything, even hair? What about armor and weapons system? You will be fighting in the arena? What is your friend going to use in the arena, is he providing weapons?

They haven't deleted my account or my profile wouldn't still be seen , would they lock me out of it without even an email or message of any kind ?

I don't think it is LL, I think it was an glitch. What happened and why it was locked up, I don't know.

Does anyone know if LL announce if it was unscheduled maintenance? I see that the last scheduled maintenance was 4 days ago. Nothing about trouble since then.

I don't know much about these things. I have seen lots of posts from people over the years from people who ask if they have been banned, since they get the message even if they copy and paste the correct password. It has been due to unscheduled maintenance.

I don't know if you tried to write your password too many times and was shut down for security. I have never used Live chat, it is the only thing I know about besides to submit a ticket. LL announced that there will be no support the 25th, but it will be open the 24th and then the 26th and so on.

  3. Do not think it is too late for cunomar. This happen in a very unfortunate time, I am sure LL give people leave for the holidays and run on a skeleton crew.

Do you have something to do while you wait? Maybe read FabFree and go on a hunt for gifts. Since you never leave adult sims, perhaps do something totally different and explore mainland, as one other poster here does. Just to keep you occupied on the alt.

I doubt that you will find your main frozen where you logged off, but if I were you, I would go there and look just because.

  4. Try to teleport here to NCI in Kuula. https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kuula/55/168/29

I was living close by in Poliahu, and the road was open both northeast and southwest from NCI.

Do you have banlines turned on? You can see them in time and stop if you don't travel fast.

There can be a problem with security orbs that are set to a wide radius and reach on over the road. I am not sure what can be done with them. Trees and other phantom objects should not be a problem if they are planted and overhang the road.

I wonder if you should make landmarks as you travel, if you are teleported home you can go back to the last one and progress slowly. If you are on Linden road or water and you find something blocking the road, you can submit a ticket and ask to have it removed, I think.

I have not used the default LL viewer so I am not familiar with it. The Firestorm map is good, and I can see the roads so clearly. I can also click on the map, on the road in the next sim and teleport there, it is a way to get past a roadblock or a nasty security orb.

  5. The Fruit Islands is another place you can sail. You can rez your boat at the public beach. These are private sims with land to rent. https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fruit Islands/9/71/22

If I were new, I would sail around there, and if it was no green dots on the map, I would use the camera to look better at the houses and gardens there. Many really, really impressive boats outside to admire. People probably don't like it if you pause your boat outside their land for a long time, so just sail past where green dots show the owner is home. Or IM them and ask if you can come in and admire their place.

Some will probably not answer or say no, but many would like it and let you look around. It's nice to show off your place to polite people. I rented in the Pear sim, and it was so lovely. I have a RL that keep me from SL in long periods. I could not justify for myself to pay the rent when I couldn't log in, so I let the place go.

Thanks guys! I spent a little time last night on the train and boat around the Color Sims....I had actually never heard of them. Nor have I been aware of the names of any of the continents or known anything about SL geography, despite having once been a very involved SL resident for nearly four years. I guess since I've never had any interest in land ownership/rental, I've neglected a very large part of the SL experience. I'm still not interested in owning/renting land, but I am very interested now in just travelling around and exploring. Thinking of getting a ridable horse and pony trekking part of it!

You already have a rideable horse, actually two, in your inventory. They are a part of the new(est?) starter avatars LL released in 2017.

I have not used them since 2017 so my memory isn't so good. But I used them with my own avatar (Skin/body/clothes). not the standard, I think I only attached the horse and AO. The female avatar only has a side sit since they are renaissance avatars but I found out how to trick the system and use the male horse for the common sit.

This video shows where to find them, go in the library -> clothing and the female is Rihanna (Or Rihannon?)

I can't log in much now, it is so busy in RL, but there is a video. 2 minutes in she show where in your inventory you find them, and 7:30 she uses the avatars with the horses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPIxpls1Wdw

If you get interested in riding, you can buy the Water Horse that you can customize, I haven't bought that one even if I thought about it so many times. Again, I can't really say so much, you get better information from this blog: https://aywren.com/2018/03/22/second-life-finding-water-horse/

and a video showing the Water Horse in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Scpc1xec6pg

  7. Will you rent or buy? I live on Mainland next to the L-shaped Lake. It was expensive land, and it is not much land on offer there. Before, I lived next to the waterways in Innu, but that was too complicated to navigate to some lake. Around the Mare Secundus is perhaps a good place to hunt for land.

Second Norway has lovely places. If you rent in private places, there is a covenant that make sure the look is not destroyed by huge privacy screens, vampire castles and low skyboxes. The covenant is mid/northern Europe plants and builds that will fit in.

If you like tropical islands, you must check out Fruit Islands. I totally loved to live there, but it will cost you. You must pay 4 weeks rent up front, and the rent is higher than you are used to. You can sail around there everywhere. The covenant there is tropical plants and builds, but you don't have to use tiki homes, ordinary family homes is fine.

I go for a realistic height, so I'm 5ft 5ins, or 1.65m, as set on the sliders.  I see plenty of other female avatars about the same size as me or smaller, although there are many who are taller - some much taller!   Then there's that slight discrepancy between the avatar scale and the prim building scale to worry about - or not worry about.

I a good piece of guidance is to be conscious of scale and choose a size that you would want your avatar to be in real life, even if it's a furry or robot.  To put it another way, if you intend your female avatar to be a 7 foot giantess, that's fine.  But if she's meant to be a regular size but you made her big to fill the screen, with no thought of scale, then maybe it would be a good idea to learn about the camera settings in the debug menu.

Although this topic is about female avatars, what I say here applies equally to male avatars.

There is always one who come in and use derogatory words as "gigantess" in every thread about size. :S

  9. In terms of realistic and functional, I struggle more with how my avatar look in houses and furniture. I am too old in SL to adapt a new camera angle so in the default camera position, it is a balance between ceiling height and height of windows and doors. I like a bit higher ceiling, but I really don't like it when doorknobs are placed as high as my nipples, if you get what I'm saying.

A functional height for me is 6' or 1,8 - 1,9 m. I have found houses and furniture who fit well together. I am 5'95 in front of the house, and it works because it is a manor style build. Manors are bigger that average houses. But 6'10 would look better in the furniture. I can resize everything down because most of what I have is mod, but is it realistic to do it with all things? I buy much from the same designer and it is more convenient to change myself.

I know some people have a different view, that they should never adjust their avatar to match SL furniture. They are entitled to their opinion, but I take the easy way out and change 1 thing, myself, instead of everything else. Low quality photos, sorry. I took them on medium graphics because I don't have time to change to the photo setting with ultra, shadows and all that.

1.74 here as measured in the viewer

Most males I meet seem to be around a head taller which is fine by me, and most females seem around my size or a little taller

This difference in height is the standard SL. Men prefer to be among the tallest in the crowd. Maybe they shrink a bit, since so much good quality furniture is made towards a bit more realistic size. But I will say that the females has been at least a head shorter during SLs time, and still is.

It is not all, of course, but I think it's the majority.

Is the difference between mesh heads and system ones with high quality skins really that obvious? I'm back in SL after several years out...was once very on trend and now a bit of a mess. I've tried bento heads with various skins and they all just look so stupid, plus the system for using it is so complicated. Combined with a mesh body, I'm amazed anything on grid still works...don't all these additional scripts and HUD clog everything up? Most system heads with good skins look absolutely fine to me.

True, from the front. It is only the triangles next to the nostrils, and it can be hidden with the correct windlight.

From the side and half profile, that is different to me. I was using the Loud Mouth before mesh heads, I see a big difference in the mouth from the side with mesh.

It is fine if you have no interest in animating the face, or have a slighly open mouth. I also like to move the hands and fingers individually.

You should do what makes YOU happy. Don't care if all others use mesh. You are you, with your style.

100LI and Mod, but baked textures with shadows, so you can't really alter those.

Thank you. I don't think I bother to pick it up. I have a new winter cabin from Schulz Bros, from the Snowstorm edition of Builders Box.

It looks better and is 90 LI.

I have never picked up a premium gift, not one. It is because I started as premium late, I suppose. I am spoilt by all the amazing creations I get elsewhere.

I sometimes think I will get a gift, but always forget it.

But by all means, it is nice of LL to offer it, and it looks nice. For one like me, I would prefer some more LI added to my land for free, but hey, I know I can't get it.

finally one thats not having a duck face, or look like glued to a glass plate and it's not ok .... who understands women.... :)

Catwa offer more diversity than ever, it's not just one mouth to rule them all now. What people buy is a whole different picture. I, for one, hesitate to switch heads because of the price. I am sure others think the same and are used to the lips.

New head buyers perhaps only hear about the Catya head, the oldest with ducklips. So they buy what are recommended for them, or they see all the products for "Catwa Catya" and think that's the head with best options.

Thank you all for your very helpful responses.

It can be smart to start looking at demos now, in case there will be a Christmas gift or sales. If you find heads that you think will work for you, you are prepared.

I recommend you to join the groups that are free to join, so you don't miss messages about this. It can be a flash sale.

You might have missed the "The Home and Garden thread" because it's near the bottom of the page here in the General Discussion Forum, but that's where you should go for ideas. There are 22 pages of posts dealing with nothing but land and building ideas. A lot of them will be for parcels much bigger than your 1024 (even those will have good ideas), but a great many are for plots half the size of yours or smaller. Here's one about building and decorating a house on a lot of less than 400 m².

I recommend this thread too, if you go back a page or more, you will find @Coby Fodens posts on a 512 plot. She has very low land impact furniture and build.

    Hi,

I'm new to building and I just bought my very first 1024 parcel.  Yay for me!  ^^  I'm not exactly sure what I want it to be yet though.

So, I was hoping for good examples of what can be done with a 1024 parcel and less than 351 prims (skybox or land)?  I know that's a broad question, but I was just looking for some inspiration from Flickr, here, or in world.  So far, I haven't found much.

    Thanks in advance.

The bolded: What do you want? Do you like what you see around you on the ground? If you don't, then a skybox is the best.

Or do you want a garden and house/cottage on the ground? Is it flat or flat/ish?

And, a budget. Do you plan to spend L, and what's your limit?

Are your style modern, classic, dungeon (lol)

I bet, chopping off the head was less painful than having the tattoo being stitched.

Haha. Usually I don't wear tattoos in SL but if I do, it's all in.

The only way to tell it's the default head, is zooming on around the nostrils. The mouth is either a teeth tattoo, an alpha that show teeth, the PXL teeth, or the Loud Mouth mouth. The Loud Mouth add-on improved my profile so much, but it was hard to edit and had a seam. I see that I wrote that the picture was unedited, so I did a good job with the windlight, or I used another solution than Loud Mouth.
