tip jars are not allowed (don't ask why)

Since you (didn't) ask, tip jars are not allowed because they constitute a L$ business transaction and Bellisseria is not a commercial area. It's residential, and people don't tend to want to live right next to a noisy or busy club. If community centers allowed tip jars and tipping then DJs playing them would be less about something for/with the community and instead about making L$. Second Life is peppered with entertainment venues made for that very purpose. Perhaps a better question is "Why would a DJ want to work at one of those or start their own  when they can just use the community regions in Belli for free?"

If someone wants to donate their time and play for the public for fun, have a good time, make some friends or perhaps hone their skills and build a fan base then the community regions are a good place they can do that at. But they aren't a place to make L$ and they aren't meant to compete with places that are. If making L$ is the motivation there are clubs everywhere who are hiring.

TL;DR: It keeps Belli residential and non-commercial.

  2. The boards in Puffin Head are available to members of the Bellisseria Performers Group. It was originally created for DJs to be able to list where they are going to play in the community regions around Bellisseria, but it isn't limited to just music performances. If someone wants to hold periodic events in the community spaces they can message myself or Missy to be added to the group. If they need access to change the parcel radio stream that is separate from the group and they can contact me directly.  Those signs below each board will offer you a teleport to each of the spaces.

The fairgrounds is a bit different. There is a google calendar for events at the fairgrounds. You can apply to stage an event there by following this link: http://bit.ly/BellisseriaFairgrounds

Does anyone know if there is a documented way to 'sign up for/reserve' any of the Linden Home Community Centers? (Such as Campwich Forest, Randalsham Treehouse or the Sakura Community Center) for an in-world event? Or, is this only limited to the Bellesseria Fairgrounds?

    Please, and thank you.

Contact Missy (Mischievious) Mole with some of the details of what you'd like to do and she can help point you in the right direction.

Instead of speculating and guessing, let’s just ask.

@Abnor Mole @Patch Linden There is a lot of speculation going on about the old Volenteer HQ that recently came down. We can see that there are changes being made on the mainland, like the connection to Belli etc.
Is this one of those changes? Specifically, is this land being remade into something else? Or is it being auctioned off?

Hey, come on guys. You know even if myself or any Moles knew what the plan was for that land (which we do not) we wouldn't be at liberty to discuss it anyway.

*spins his tongs in a sparkly circle like a sorcerer, steps through the portal (a grill with burgers and hot dogs on it in the background), and poofs*

  5. Practicality would be the word. Just like how many theme idea do not lend themselves well to a Linden Homes setting, we decided that a purely skybox centered theme also was likely too impractical and not a good fit.

Edit: But we did leave the option open across all themes to those who wanted to use one as long as it is above 2000m

  6. I offered that very same suggestion (counts fingers... 12 months in a year... divide by π... carry the 2...) 3 years ago. It was ruled out for a variety of reasons I won't/can't get into other than to say 'it was a no'... but yes, we did consider it.

  7. It would take much more than people think. We've looked down that rabbit hole and it is deeeeeeep. What seems simple on its face is much more involved when all the consequences are taken into account. (If we do this then we have to do that, which means we'll have to do that, but we can't do this, so we have to do these as well... ad infinitum)

Much of the market were talking about is based on the misconception that one needs to be in an adult region to do adult things. You really only need to have adult rated land if you have a commercial adult business or publicly open adult venue. I don't think the question should be: "How much would it take to build an adult Bellisseria (to which the answer is: a LOT). It really should be: "How much does it take to be discrete about adult activities and content in a moderate residential space?" The answer to the second question will always be less than the first.

Kind of. The policy (probably this link was intended) isn't really clear about whether the closed door conditions are logically conjunctive or disjunctive: Do we need walls and parcel privacy and restricted access (all of which are possible on Belli, certainly), but also these "closed doors" supposedly permit adult activity on Moderate land but maybe not all adult content that was a big deal when the Adult content policy was implemented. That specifically included real world imagery that was sexually explicit or depicted "extreme violence". Now, I don't think this has ever been enforced so it doesn't matter in practice, but good luck getting a Linden to state it publicly. They never could be pinned down to "if a parcel is not listed in search, anything permitted on Adult is okay on Moderate behind closed doors" as much as we tried to get him[*] to say so.

In fact, though, that doesn't really matter. The real question is economics: is there a market for Adult-rated Linden Homes parcels, even it they're not "needed"? Probably three quarters of Zindra's occupied parcels contain no commercial adult content, but people want it for whatever reason. Maybe it's the beach sex? Whatever it is, that would be evidence that such a market could exist. That said, I 100% agree that the market would be miniscule at most, at least right now. (But who knows where Puppetry Porn will take the platform in the future?  )

What you are probably running into there is a reticence to lay out specifics because someone will always work to find a way around them. The Lab would rather have some wiggle room in there to use their discretion in enforcement and err on the side of caution (which you noticed they seem to do).  Or in other words, it's not a big deal as long as someone doesn't go out of their way to make it one and they can't point to a loophole as a defense.

As far as adult Linden Homes it's been bantered about many times. It's not just economics. It's also logistics and cost vs benefits. Building a whole other continent separated from mainland (which is what it would have to be) is very costly for little actual benefit other than people being able to walk around and use their naughty bits in plain view whether anyone around them likes it or not. The fact there would be a market for that isn't enough of a benefit to offset the costs (monetary or otherwise).

  9. Another tip besides low LI furnishings is to try and avoid the circular trap of feeling the need to fill every space. People tend to build right to the edge of their property and put add ons for more rooms, and then run out of LI trying to fill those rooms. Keeping to the smaller house options rather than adding on extra rooms will allow you more LI for the rooms you already have. A larger parcel with more LI will be just as hard in that case. You will have more LI, but you also have more space and an even bigger house add-on with even more rooms to fill and end up with the same result... not enough LI. Bigger isn't always better.

Think of it like the income-spending-savings conundrum. If you increase your income in order to have more savings, but your spending increases along with your income, you still won't have any savings.

Also be careful when linking and unlinking objects together. Sometimes that can cause portions of the original linksets that previously had no physics suddenly default to having one, and you discover you can't go upstairs or there is an invisible something blocking half of your living space.

  10. Well... Beyonce did have one of the best DJ sets in SL of all time. Unless... that wasn't the real Beyonce? 🤔

Edit: I just checked and it wasn't. Well, fishsticks.

I hope I'm not being viewed as one of the "entitled whiners."  I simply like to see things finished.  That northern Log Land coastline has been there a long time, relatively speaking, and seeing other theme areas get added with finished coastlines does make me question if they have had to abandon or delay plans to finish it for one reason or another.

I do not think this is a case of adding regions that don't generate income, but I suppose that depends what they have/had planned there.

My hope is that they are still working on something that is going to be north of that area, and it's simply not practical to put in the transitional regions at this time.

I don't expect an explanation or a response, but knowing that there are definite plans to finish it at some point would be nice.  Life will go on either way.

You're fine, Matthieu. The wondering is natural. We expect that. The speculation is natural too. We expect that as well. It's when residents come up with their own detailed plans of what we should do and when it doesn't happen that way (sometimes for reasons we can address, but more often for reasons we cannot) they get upset and believe they are entitled to a detailed explanation why or that it is still up for debate.

  14. Here is the thing to remember. We want many of the same thing you all want. We are just in the position of knowing more of the ins and outs to know if something will work or if it will not... because that is our job. We have to know the difference between what is possible and what we only wish were possible. We are blessed with being able to actually make many of the things that are possible happen. How many of you imagined for a moment 3 or 4 years ago that through a LOT of hard work we would actually connect the continents?

We are not sitting on the sidelines with no skin in the game computerchair quarterbacking telling people how they should do their jobs. We are the ones actually doing it, day in and day out and we're able to pull off some pretty amazing stuff. We love doing this and we love making these things happen. It's a wonderful feeling when we can give you all something as tremendous as a protected route to the Blake Sea.

You know what kills that feeling? The thing that makes us question why we bother? When it seems like it's still not enough or people act like they are being told no because we just don't want to do their super amazing idea; or we just want to be mean; or we don't know what we are talking about; or they are going to go over our heads and "talk to the manager" as if they're going to get a different answer. smh.

Question. Imagine a continent edge region like Khan (for example) becomes abandoned and then goes into the LL Maintenance group,  LL would then restore Khan back to its default terrain and water settings.

Would they also then automatically add in missing protected boat channel(s) where none existed before, before releasing the region back to market for sale and purchase?

Since that region at its original default terrain and water setting doesn't have water at the edge along its entire length for a boat channel and one wouldn't actually lead very far even if it did... probably not.

Question about protected coastlines... (for Abnor). If mainland people buy/rent land and can expect it to stay the same, could Bellisseria residents also expect the same? Would a coastline suddenly be blocked without warning?

If a parcel is next to a void (no region exists) there is no implied guarantee that the Lab could not decide to place a region there at some point at the Lab's discretion. I think what some people are missing is that they are also under no obligation to do so either.

Your explanation for Satori's "two region gap" is.... not correct.

In circumstances where a single column of void spaces exists between two continents, one would not even require draw distance to be decreased to enjoy uninterrupted sea views, as a simple visit to any sim region close to Fantasseria will easily demonstrate!

Two continents narrowly separated by a single 256m wide water region width would only be in visual range of each other with a draw distance set to 256m and only then at the coastline. Those who prefer a sea view would lower their draw distance below 256m to hide the opposite continent.

We made the call to keep it 2 spaces to avoid the possibility completely. Whether it would take 36 regions to fill that space or 18 is a moot point because neither of those are possible, just like it's a moot point whether you think it was the correct call. Do you want to go enjoy what we've spent several weeks making possible or do you want to keep telling us we are wrong (need to do more, didn't do it the way you wanted, etc) and pushing for something that we've said over and over is not possible... in which case I can just close the thread.

"We" (LL) sold off 99% of southern Satori's coastlines after Satori was created, carelessly "forgetting" to protect southern Satori's regions with protected water channels or adding an external fringe of coastal water regions.

And "Common People" don't just own that Satori land, they rent it to other "Common People" who don't have Premium Accounts.

And those regions were like that when resident bought or rented them. Adding water regions along all those coastlines is not an option, so unless you are suggesting the Lab go back now and confiscating land along that edge to retroactively correct that that is how they are going to stay for the foreseeable future.

I don't know how much clearer I can make it. The Lab is supporting the legacy of the existing open water regions around the grid, but talk of surrounding all of the continents with a huge sailable sea is a non-starter.

Of course, if the intention is to separate the Premium Members from the 'Common People' in East Sansara and South-West Satori, then I can explain the impenetrable lagoons created between the continents.

The people who own land there on the mainland aren't "common people". If they own land on mainland they are premium members too. Some of them even expressed worry that they would lose their sea view and have to look at houseboats (that is also why it is a 2 region gap, not just one). So we couldn't build houseboat regions up to their doorstep like that, nor would we want to. But as explained, the Lab cannot justify the cost of dozens of homestead regions either. That edge of the mainland is the same as it was when they bought the land. We haven't taken anything away from it. We provided a way sail along a protected route to the Blake Sea and beyond.

And yes, I know about Naturecon. Derrick, Madori and I worked with them for the Moles to provide the regions with a display of Bellisseria content on 1/4 of the expo space... from an underwater grotto to the lighthouse on the coast to the rez zones you'll use when you arrive and leave.
