  1. Remember, when a group owns land the group is literally the owner, not you. You can make them a member of the group and give them permissions within the group for group owned land. The scripter would just need to deed the object they are creating to the same group and the land will see those as belonging to the owner. Deeding objects to a group also sets next owner permissions, so be careful to make sure those are set so you can still modify them or take them back as a scripter.

What you do not need to do (and I usually advise against) is making them a co-owner of the group itself. This gives them ALL the powers within the group, including the ability to set group owned land for sale to themselves, to someone else, or abandoning it. I'm all for trusting friends and all, but... you know. ;)

I had a Vic house on the South side of Belli and my opposite neighbour across the water used their house for the wine selling/barrels thing. The whole house was filled with them and it really did seem to affect the region in regards to lag etc.

    That is why...

*Excessively overt or system resource-intensive interactive systems consisting of in-world scripted objects that communicate with one another to procreate (e.g. breedables) or grow  (e.g. farming) to produce other products or consumables are only allowed under the following conditions:
-They are limited to two (2) active units with food/water rezzed out at any given time.
-Hovertext is OFF or is not visible from outside the parcel.
-They are within the theme if visible outside the home.
-They do not involve the constant re-rezzing of temp objects.

Prediction: There will be a "Game of 2048" at least as annoying as the "Game of Homes".

PP users snarfing up, trading, etc. the new 2048 homes as if they are collector's edition Barbie dolls.

That's why all of the houses will be Pepto-Bismol Pink.

That didn't reach us. I'll change our wiki now to reflect that.

The intention was never for linden homes to be used solely for dropboxes (why wouldn't you just get a regular mainland parcel, in that case?), but for merchants to be able to use the space they already occupy.

Dropboxes only use very minimal region resources, so they certainly don't cause any performance issues. But yeah, I completely get the problem with deserted plots being used for commercial means.

My apologies, Casper. I know it was sent "up the chain" but I'd not realize it had not reached you (or even looked recently to see if it had). Thank you for changing it though.

While i of course will not interfere with Linden Lab rules, the activity of a dropbox should not be exaggerated. These boxes are only active for the brief moment that they actually have to send an item. The rest of the time they are dormant and won't put much strain on any resource in the region they are on. So the harsh terms i hear about them in this thread are rather uninformed.

The potential simulator and network resources they were using in the regions were only one factor. Just as concerning was the practice of merchants using the old Linden Homes not to live in or as a second home, but solely as a backup server location for their businesses. We didn't like the idea of Belliserria becoming utilized as merchant server farms any more than we think most of you do; especially when there are other and better alternatives available.

  6. In the old Linden Homes many merchants would get a Linden Home just for a back up location for their dropboxes. It was a practice even recommended in the Caspervend documentation. We believe that was originally before the creation of Bellisseira and we asked for that recommendation to be changed/removed around the time Casper was acquired by the Lab.

Whether it is 24 people in a region with one box or one person with 24 boxes that is potentially a lot of scripted simulator resources for a commercial purpose.

It was decided that it the practice probably should not be allowed in Bellisseria and it was added to the covenant.

These maps never show the old First Gen linden homes... like they don't exist at all. This is a foreshadow for the future.

It's not a secret the old Linden Homes will be going away at some point, and since the title of the map is "Mainland, Bellisseira and Surrounding Area" and they are neither Mainland nor Bellisseria they are not on that map.

  8. There are so many things that have to happen in order for a theme to go from concept to release. We have to have all the houses (obviously) and all the content for the regions. Then we have to build the regions. Then we have to place them on the map and check everything. Then we have to get them added to the mix on the page. Only then can we actually start releasing homes to residents. If you knew all the details it would drive the average person insane. (Am I average? Does that mean I'm insane? Or am I just Abnor Mole? *cackles uncontrollably*)

Some of that we can do simultaneously but many of those stages have to be sequential. We can't build regions without all of the content. We cannot script the houses until the mesh is finalized. Hiccups in one stage have a ripple effect through the whole process. And think about what we are actually doing. We're making an entire continent rivaling the size of all of Mainland that is already filled with content. That is monumental. The breadth and scope of this project something that still amazes me to this day. Just know that we making them as fast as humanly possible.

I'm sorry you had to abandon. It seems to be an easy fix, if the moles could just patch up that lake and turn it into a park area/garden, then lower the water to match the region in front. Why not?

Hmmm.. looks more like an easy way to make everyone else in the region livid we filled in their lake to make one house have a nicer view to me. Maybe someday they will change the way water off in the distance to the horizon in unrendered regions  is displayed.

If I had a 2048 boat slip I could use my own boat and build on it, would give bonus prim. That would be worth it for me. A free zone where we can build without being judged.

That's a big reason why the idea of 2048 Houseboat parcels were decided against. We already have enough issues with people pushing the boundaries of building out of theme on the 1024 parcels when we left half of it empty water space. Tripling that amount of space would just exacerbate the problem.

  11. I remember when people were saying they wanted apartment buildings. "Oh yeah! That'd be so cool!" So we built some on April 1st.

    The conversation usually went like....
Them: "Wow. This is so cool. I can see it from the next region."
Us: "Would you want to live in one?"
    Them: "Oh god no."
    😆

  12. There is nothing in the covenant saying you can't; but the point I was making is that there are many many things not in the covenant, but they could be. So the question residents want to ask themselves isn't can they do a particular thing, but should they do a particular thing. If it becomes a practice that enough people find objectionable it could become something we have to address in the covenant. If you do use one, I would make sure it was as considerate to your neighbors as possible. Perhaps even something you turn on when you are home, but doesn't run when you are offline or away.

  13. I don't know if the delay was intentional or if it just happened that way due to circumstances. I'm not heavily involved in that process on their end or know what (if anything) prolonged the release process. A grid emergency? A flood of support calls to the office? An unscheduled meeting? Lunch?

But... and you might want to think about it this way... does it not make good sense from a business standpoint to try to keep the perceived value of P+ membership as high as possible? And wouldn't one of those ways be by making sure Premium Plus members were getting maximum benefit out of the perk of being able putting in tickets for home locations.

  14. Released means the parcels in that region have been made available to residents. If the land is group owned by LDPW it is has not been released. If the region names starts with SSP it has not been released. That is why the support page dissuades premium plus members from putting in tickets for locations in regions that start with SSP, because it can be several weeks before that location is released. There is no way for residents to know when a region will actually be released, and no... we will not tell you.
