  1. The parcels are not divided by theme as much by size and dimension. All of the (12) 32x32 1024sqm land parcels in the sandbox will rez any of the houses designed to fit on that size and type parcel. Same for the (3) 32x32 1024sqm water parcels, the (4) 16x32 512sqm parcels,  or the (4) 32x64 2048sqm parcels. The controller at front of the parcel shows all the themes that can be rezzed on that parcel. The only exception are the (2) 16x32 1024sqm water parcels, since the only houses that fit on those are houseboats.

To use the lockout feature you only have to be on the parcel and rez a house from the parcel controller. As long as it detects you are still on the parcel and don't leave or log out, the controller will remain locked so no one else can use it while you are working.

I placed markers showing where the parcel borders are, but a better way to see them is to use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P (the Show Parcel Lines shortcut).

Be sure to pick up your things when you are done if you don't want returned items filling your Lost and Found after 4 hours.

Scalability will be more of a factor of usage. If the sandbox is constantly full of residents using it to build and test out ideas for Bellisseria homes we could open a second one if needed. Or possibly a Premium or Premium Plus only version if that seems necessary.

  2. I understand the frustration that no Ranch homes are currently available. There are however homes in other themes available you can try in the meantime, and there is the option of mainland... but I think there may be some confusion in how mainland and tier works. You do have to buy mainland but that is a one time purchase price, not a recurring tier cost. Your tier included with your membership covers that, not your weekly stipend. And if you sell that mainland later, you should recoup that initial purchase price depending on how much you sell the land for.

  3. As long as it is connecting up to the road and not interfering with people being able to use the road it is fine. It's when people get a little too "creative" and start blocking the road with objects (sometimes with bad physics shapes that actually block people or sometimes phantom but don't allow you to see the road) that gets people in trouble when it leads to complaints. That is when you risk having it sent back. That goes for objects extending out into the public waterways as well like islands or beaches that take up or block a large section of a canal.

Which leads me to a question regarding the covenant. I think the rule is currently that you cant build any kind of structure more than 15m above the ground of your parcel. I'm wondering if builds like this below are going to be acceptable in the treehouses O.o

But no... this type of thing was never allowable under the covenant, not only because of the height but it is out of theme for fantasy and I have that blimp myself so I know there is no way it fits within the parcel.

  5. The 5m amendment was added to the covenant when the Treehouses were deployed to allow for people to build add ons to their treehouses without breaking the 15m above ground rule. It also allows for add ons to the rest of the houses even if the house itself is already close to 15m. The 5m above the roofline rule only applies if the total height is above 15m. (i.e. a house model that is only 5m tall can have an add on that is 10m rather than 5m.)

It might be a good idea to amend the covenant to remind treehousers that the 15m rule above GROUND level remains in effect and that roof additions must be in theme and should not extend more than TBD m above the roof ridge.

    5 meters.

"Privacy walls or fences should match the theme and extend no more than 4m above ground level. All other structures should not extend higher than 15m above ground level or sea level, whichever is higher. Add-ons to homes themselves should not be taller than 5m above the tallest point of the roofline of the home."

    aaaand...

"Linden Homes should be kept presentable and in-theme to their unique areas."

  7. Hey... some of you may have noticed controllers not working on your Fantasy parcel. If this happens the best thing to do is what you always do... touch and hold the controller for  4 or 5 seconds and let go. That will reset the controller and it should function normally again.

    @Abnor Mole,

Are there options on any of the homes (I am asking about the Treehouses in particular) to "not rez the home at all", thereby reserving the LI for using in a skybox, etc.?

There isn't. You have to use one of the homes provided. If people were rezzing their own homes chaos would quickly ensue with people rezzing homes that were out of theme. And you wouldn't get any LI benefit from not having a house rezzed since the homes don't count on your parcel LI anyhow.

To be honest, the futuristic homes provided in Horizons are nowhere near the quality of the homes in Bellisseria.  If the homes provided were better, I'd certainly prefer to use one.

They weren't, no. They also had to be under a very low LI threshold so the parcels could be double prim. In Belli we put that LI into the houses and surrounding deco instead.

I wish we could have premium, with the extra land and themed, BUT have the option to rez our own house if we don't want to use the options LL gives us.

We tried that. It was called Horizons. Double LI parcels in a futuristic theme. It's the reason why the Bellisseria covenant stipulates "Residents must use one of the houses provided." https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:New_Linden_Homes_2019#Linden_Homes_Covenant

  11. It's both a sharing resources and using your Linden Home for farming breedables issue while still allowing residents to have a couple of pets. Limiting the number is how we decided to give residents the ability to have a couple of breedable pets, but keep people from using Linden Homes as "mills" for turning out large numbers of breedable items (assumingly for profit, which would be a commercial usage). Lindens are Moles aren't going to differentiate between "laggy" or "non laggy" breedables or if they are or are not set to a breeding status. They are just going to look at the number that are rezzed out on the parcel and if they comply with the covenant.

  12. I meant "you" in the broad sense of the term. Meaning anyone purposefully looking for loopholes is essentially looking for "permission by omission" because it doesn't say you cannot do xyz. The covenant does not specifically exclude many things because it can't possibly exclude every bad idea. What we want is when people have an idea to do something they take the time to objectively think about whether it is something that would probably be objectionable from the perspective of the people around them rather than just reading through the covenant to see if it specifically says they can't. If they did that, we'd probably have a lot fewer yachts floating over people's homes.

  13. A boat in your boat slip parcel is not really a structure... it's a moored vehicle (and it just makes sense to have allowances for masts in a marina). That doesn't mean anyone should get the idea that calling just anything a vehicle will get around the height restrictions for structures in the covenant. A tower in your back yard isn't immune because the base happens to be "boat shaped".

I bet @Abnor Mole know what gets ARed far better than we residents do.

Oh I'm sure there are people who will AR them, but my point is in 18 years I have never heard of anyone ever actually getting in any sort of serious trouble with Governance for something like that in their home in a moderate region.

  15. The only underlying intention to subtly encourage individuals to be less jerky to their fellow residents out of fear. Fear of roving gangs of griefers, fear of anyone they don't know, fear of someone camming into their bedroom and reporting them...

When I said Invisiprim, I actually meant a regular prim with an alpha texture (e.g transparent). I did not know there was a previous special type of object that no longer exists. I was not trying to refer to that... and if you hadn't said something, I would not have known that I had inadvertently misspoke.

In this case, they used 4 prims linked together and set to convex hull (so LI was only 2). Perhaps that was to control the thickness of these invisible  barrier walls, because they would have been rather thick on a 32x32 M box where max hollow is 95%.

BTW. your idea of scripting it it to go phantom when certain avatars (on an "approved list") collide with it is quite cleaver and very doable. I am only an intermediate level scripter, but I think I could write that one myself.

Someone really ought to make and market a "smart invisible wall" to protect one's property at ground level. I think there might be a market for this type of product, especially in Bellisseria.

I was hoping this idea would die a natural death but I see it's will not. We've had people do this in Bellisseria and they get found when someone complains about an invisible barrier and not understanding what is happening... and they get returned for being a wall higher than 4m. What you're talking about is a ban line that is not technically a ban line the same way automatic parcel blacklist ban is not technically a parcel ban.

Going straight back in shows a certain kind of attitude that wouldn't be tolerated by anyone, anywhere.

The assumption that any avatar that stays more than 15 seconds is always and without question (1) making a choice, and (2) showing malicious intent is where you're going wrong.
