  5. Yep. Ages ago, when I dropped into my first text chat rooms, I was immediately bombarded with "asl?" (age, sex, location). I routinely answered "old, no, here" This is a really great response :matte-motes-big-grin: LOL

I click on them and hit wear but they justr show up as a box. I try to "rez" them but it wont let me.... I have no idea what I am doing at all Good morning and welcome to SL You might consider going to Caledon. They have a walk through SL tutorial and there are usually veteran residents there who can help you with any questions you might have. It's a bit of an SL University inworld. The wiki is great too but if you like more face to face help it's a good place. :smileyhappy:
  7. Quinn Morani wrote: Truly fantastic news! And so inspiring to watch this sometimes fractured community unite for one of their own. Out of a very troubling ban comes a needed reminder of what is good about SL. Perfect post Quinn! And, imho I thought that SL was trying to foster more of a sense of community these days anyway? /me scratches my head I would respectfully submit to LL that I think this has been achieved. I don't know what happened originally but it's great to see many of the forum regulars stand up for a friend. :smileyhappy: In my case, I love reading the forums...why? It's a great gauge for me to see what SL is or can be all about. Call it social acceptance or just to see how others view the world in general. I think the forums are great personally....agree, disagree, debate, satire or just for a good laugh now and then. I also think if more new residents read the forums they might stick around SL too. Agree to disagree in some cases and keep it respectful. P.S. I myself prefer to lurk and read the forums most of the time, lol.

It's been floating around Facebook unattributed but here is the source: http://jmak.tumblr.com/post/9377189056 I wonder if Apple may use this as their new logo? It may be a tribute one now, but it seems poignant and fitting. May he rest in peace and sincere sympathies to his family and friends. He really did change the world ...
  10. I like the blue eye coloring for my avatar. /me smiles and waves

It would also be good to know a bit about the social aspect of SL so I don't make any embarassing faux pas. Embarassing faux pas ... I think it goes with the territory along with wearing boxes on your head .... been there done both more than once, lol /me smiles and waves Welcome to SL :matte-motes-smitten:
  12. Fabulous picture and costume :matte-motes-smile: Cheers to all!
  13. Melanie774 Kidd wrote: Pretty much anything: a great book I've just finished, a movie with kick-ass clothes, my favorite music artists, conversations with friends. Oftentimes, it's the actual builds/environments in SL that inspire, as well. When I find myself wanting to take snapshots of a sim, I like including my av in the photo because it's a personal memory I'm recording, and that leads me to wanting to dress up my av for the location. Completely agree, especially about the sims providing inspiration. The builders and designers in here are incredible :matte-motes-smile: Cheers to all!
  14. jespey wrote: Hi! As a Newb, but I hope not a Noob, I can see where you're all coming from. We've all been places in RL and online where we're the new girl/boy, and SL is a mahoosive learning curve. It's day two for me and I'm still staggering round like a drunk looking decidedly suspect! But there was a lovely lady in a shop who IM'd me and said "hair and shoes are the worst to get in the beginning" and pointed me in the right direction. As a girl hair and shoes are almost as important as breathing, and I really appreciated her help. So far SL has been a very positive experience, but I'm still googling for info on a minute by minute basis. So I agree that a voluntary induction process would be really handy for all concerned. Especially if you can dip in and out of it when you need to progress. Saying that I've found these forums now, so I'm sure you lovely people will be bugged by me for info instead. Run for the hills! I'm sure there are those who'd love to mute me in RL! Hope this wasn't too much from a newb, I'm too small to do too much damage if I tread on toes. Jen Hello Jen, You might try Caledon...they have a wonderful tutorial that you walk through on your own. Follow the red arrows in the floor when you tp there. It's a bit of an SL University and they also offer classes and often there are veteran residents there to offer a hand to answer questions. Just my two cents and welcome to SL :matte-motes-smitten: Cheers to all!
  15. Yes, thank you Melita for posting this. May they rest in peace........

If it seems like I'm afk, I'm probably just ignoring you. If I really am afk, I'm probably hoping you'll be gone when I get back..." Another great one.....too funny....
