  1. William Gibson, the godfather of cyberpunk, just retweeted New World Notes regarding the saving of Hangars Liquides! That's not the first time he supports us, and it's certainly a honour to have such real life outstanding people supporting Djehan Kidd and Hangars Liquides. Thank you for making a difference!

And I assume we are supposed to blindly trust your judgement... because?

I was there and you were not. That you trust me or not makes no difference. What counts is I don't trust you, so I won't disclose details you would distort to talk down HL.

I'm not sure what is the point of blaming Linden Lab here, from day 1 all region owners are fully aware that the day they stop paying for their region is the day they go kaput.

Hangars Liquides decided that it was worth renting their first full region and an extra homestead in 2008 and then added two more homesteads in early 2010.

Not blaming LL, they are shooting themselves in the foot and losing all artists and their communities since 2010, and of course they are fully entitled and free to do so. They will ultimately find themselves with pixel pimps and curvy whores in a porn world. Not completely bad, and still very dystopian.

They don't sound like they care that much about saving their work if they won't even bother making a backup.

You know nothing and assume everything just to belittle DK. City has been backed up as to the point it was possible to.

Djehan could easily conserve the Hangars Liquides cluster on a private Opensimulator  'server'* but apparently doesn't want to. Maybe running it on a grid that is owned by a company that will not hesitate to shut it down once money stops flowing just adds to the angst of the dystopian concept...

Nowhere near reality. If the city disappears, she will simply move on to more advanced systems and to AR. Makes complete sense.

I'm reading that it's a common "approach" for music groups to register as a non profit and then pay their expenses, without the tax burden of running a normal company.

Your assumptions about HL breaking the rules are assumptions by a non informed person. I won't go into details as it wouldn't make any difference but lead to further off topic delicacies. Similarly, what you hear about music groups tricking the laws is not what Hangars Liquides does. HL will either be preserved or survive thanks to donations, or be gone. The fact LL has been blind to art in the past and that has coincided with an increasing amount of residents leaving doesn't mean that they need to keep repeating the same mistakes, they may well improve their strategies. What HL is requesting LL to do is not to allow them to cheat, it is to start making things possible for artists to operate within Sl, not only for HL, but for all artists. That you see artistic talent and technical prowess as arrogance and self entitlement is completely acceptable: you may have no background at all in art, or you may be be offended by the aforementioned artistic talent and technical ability. Hoping to have answered all your very pleasant  and engaging posts, I will proceed to focus my attention once again to the topic of this thread, and ignore all further off topic posts.

Oh that`s such a pity. But i can understand why. Thank you, Lawrence ...

At least i hope they know the way to save this mesh to restore this easily if the rent is collected too late.

    PS

    Where the donation box btw?

Thank you Kyla, donation box is at landing zone of Hangars Liquides, you can message me inworld and I will send you a Landmark, otherwise you can read this New World Notes article: https://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2019/07/hangars-liquides-second-life-djehan-kidd-indiegogo.html

Sorry, Lawrence, but i just don't care anymore.

The day this sim is gone, I cancel my SL subscription permanently.

I'm out of this thread and these forums.

I have had a surprising high amount of inworld messages by people telling me their sole reason for logging into Second Life was Hangars Liquides. I think it honours Djehan's efforts.

Well Im apologise i haven`t thoroughly followed all the thread. As far as i remember (maybe wrong) most mesh content in the sim was made by one designer. If them are generous enough in sharing their art, can the place make a new appearance on OpenSIm worlds, such as the OSGrid? Sorry if that idea was already discussed/

We discussed that with Djehan and she has no interest in exporting Hangars Liquides to OpenSim. If the city survives, she will keep updating it on Second Life.

    Serioiusly ?

All the wanna-be lawyers insim want to have the sim terminated on real life non-profit status and are pleading here to have it revoked , because of a few rentals inworld ?  And the petty inworld landbarons behind hit ? And if it has to it kills off all art inworld if needed ?

    What idiocy is this ?

And it doesn't matter. The sim sitll belongs to a non-profit orginazation, I will donate, gladly, expect nothing for it back and that's my own business.

And if Djehan gives me a lil' sanbox to play with some prims is no one's business anymore at all.  I'm certain we find, hopefully soon, minds alike.

TD, I wouldn't waste my time in discussing. You are focused in saving an artwork which inspires you, other people have other ideas, and they are free to express them. Just focus on your commitment, let people do what they do, and say what they say.

Before August 31st I can rake up about 10% of what is needed to keep the sim up and running.

    HL_072.thumb.png.e3f94501956f0e149c1a2cad9fea6463.png

I hope there is enough initiative from others to get to the other 90 %. If not .. my SL is over permanently as well.

Thanks mate, that's so refreshing! In the meanwhile, on Indiegogo:

22% donated on the first day !

Thank you so much to our backers!

We have a flexible goal, this means that your donations will be refunded if we don't reach at least half of the goal : 3000 euros have to be paid upfront on august 1st. This is the emergency. The remaining 3000 euros we can pay throughout the rest of the year in smaller installments.

It is important our backers know that the money will be used to keep the city up. If the city can not remain open then there will be no reason for us to keep the donations for we are a non profit organization and we are raising this money for a precise cause: Keep the servers running.

Thank you for your help supporting us!

I play both piano and guitar.

And the semester I took Latin was back in 1975 so I've forgotten more than I ever learned. lol

That's brilliant Selene! I took two years of latin during foreign languages high school. And my guitar playing is very basic, so you hand that department 😀

    Djehan failded big time then.

I think Qie and I did - irony's keen edge has been a staple tool in sarcasm and black humour for ages. Claiming you cannot use it ironically without being a fascist while using oneself in a provokating ironical way leaves me to say:

@Djehan Kidd Si tacuisses, philosophus mansisses. ;)

  11. The Anne Frank Memorial

    (Notecard to HL group today):

    Hello,

"In spite of everything i still believe that people are really good at heart", is a quote by Anne Frank.
It is placed in the city, on the outside walls of the Candy Shop, which is the only protected happy place of hangars liquides.

This is a dark and dystopian city, this is not a place we want our children to be or grow up in. But unfortunately we can not protect all the kids enough and what happened to Anne Frank, after I read her diary, is to me, the prime example of what is the most disgustingly dystopian in our world.

In all the darkness, I made that very colorful  innocent place with giant candies, flowers and pancakes, it is not a place for adults obviously, but more one to go celebrate your 10th birthday with your schoolmates. As an artist everything I do has an meaning behind it. and the meaning behind placing a quote of Anne Frank on the outside walls of the colorful candyshop caught inside a monstruously dark city is to try to remind people, just like she did by saying it, that yes in spite of everything, let's try to believe...A message of hope.

It is a memorial dedicated to her and other innocent kids who died and still die today.
A memorial is a place of contemplation, calm, remembrance.

I am being told that some people publicly say that I used that quote "ironically", you see what is in between the lines here, and I have to make it clear that I am not a fascist, for only fascists could use such a quote ironically.

There are other historically relevant illustrations all over my work in the city, 911, Tien an men, the japanese kamikaze, seppuku, the war in syria, authoritarianism, fascism, antifa, WW2 resistance, slavery, basically all these things evolving around the subject of dystopia, the wars, the corrupt politicians, I am a dystopian artist, dystopia is the subject I work with, it is not happy or anything, and it can get heavily politicized.

I have received death threats due to my work, more than once, even though I never felt endangered, internet being the internet, but I did receive some. Maybe that means I am doing my job right, I just want people to think about our world, and how to make it better to fight dystopia, and we ought to do this to protect what we have that is the most beautifully innocent, our kids.

    Have a good day everyone.

Yes, I will be happy to rent a place there too!

And I'm sorry for being a bit late to the whole discussion, but didn't I read somewhere that LL can choose to preserve sims of value? If so, I want to petition them to do so. HL should be reserved, for the history... of history (to quote 'Contact'); because the loss to SL would be enormous. I get that not everyone is into sci-fi; but HL is about much more. it's the apex of an era in which real architectual geniuses, like Djehan, created sims ppl can now only dream of.

LL should not be petty, and worry about the loss of a few L$, just Djehan tries to defray some of her bills, by renting out spaces. Instead, they should worry about losing what is a sure and proud monument to what helped made SL great. Because the loss of the latter is irreplaceable.

    we love you Kira!

Being Dutch myself, I have no problem with someone using Anne's words at all. In fact, should I ever say something as beautiful like that, which can still inspire hope in ppl, and a trust in mankind under such dire conditions, 70+ years after my death, I already, hereby, give you permission to use it. :)

    Completely well said Kira!

( Quote by Anne Frank )

That's there since a while and has nothing to do with the possible ending of the city, TD. I think it's more Djehan's philosophy: despite the endless drama queens (butt hurt by her talent and technical prowess) who came to harass her, she remains kind and polite to everyone who visits. And of course you can read it on a more general level as "despite all the trouble in the world, I still believe human nature is fundamentally good".
