  3. oh ? this is happening again ??? im glad to have taken the decision some weeks before to not buy any enhancements on the mp anymore....:smileywink:
  4. normally when your objects have been returned to you , you should have recieve an im (and if you have ims in emails enabled you should have recieved an email) telling you if its an autoreturn parcel return and who did it. For your lost objects, is it possible you have deed some of them to your group ? In that case, from what i know, you cant take them back. This has to be confirmed, but its what happen to me when i deed an object to my group. If you say, you loged right after the return with your phone client, its also possible that the server couldnt find you and then lost your objects. I dont think LL keept them.. i dont see the purpose for this. if they wanted to punish you for having an aldult club on a mature land and they took this kind of decision, you should have recieved an email. When they delete smth from an inventory due to a stolen content pb, they always send an email. So they should have done in this case too.
  5. indeed. they are always preferable to invis prims.
  6. well, its the same pb with meshes and pp who are not using mesh enabled viewer ... Same again with shoes with feet prims or mesh that you need to settle the skin color and with pp who doesnt have the same windlight settings than you... unfortunatly, we are condamned to see the other avis with not exactly the view they'd like to be seen. :smileysad: and to be seen differently than what we would like to be seen. Everything has limits ...
  7. Marteen Steamweaver wrote: Sassy, I checked and did see that these boots are using invisiprim. I'm using Firestorm and assume that as you stated in your response, invisiprim is not compatible with the viewer. Lol, no. Im using firestorm aswell, last version, and i can tell you that they are still compatible. Ive still old shoes using invisible prims and it works fine. But, i agree, alphalayer is always better. you can find some alphalayers pack for shoes and even other bodyparts for free on the market place. Of course, maybe they wont always fit perfectly with what you want to wear, but they can be usefull sometimes. It worth to be checked and its free from what i remember. :-). Otherwise you can do your owns, i think there are some usefull tutorials for this too.
  8. hi, you should check on what part of your body you are wearing them. maybe you should try to wear them on feet, or on lower leg, depend the kind of boots. but normally, if they are worn on the right body part it should works fine. You can also ask the shoes creator, he/she should help. :matte-motes-smile:

  12. Chosen Few wrote: Terrific! I'm really glad we were able to get past our communications problems, and that you've found the information we've been discussing to be helpful. I think your new strategy of trying both the 512 and 1024 version before committing to either one is a good idea. hehehhehe i know, i can be surprizing and even disconcerting sometimes. Ive always been brillant in my studies, but i have to confess i gave hard times to my teachers... I always ask more and more arguments to be conviced. One time i get them, its easier for me to accept to be teached something. As i told you before, lol, i never trust someone just because this person comes with a knowledge and say to me to listen because its true. I need to understand deeply the process. One time this is done, i open my mind lol...But i rem, my better teachers liked it a lot lol....Im sorry to have given so hard time to you, but see, in the end, you found the good arguments to convice me. I wasnt asking more :smileywink:
  13. Chosen Few wrote: Does that help? Indeed, this greatly help :smileyhappy: I still have a lil question. when you say : "Under the way you numbered it, 1 and 2 would both be the problem. What you have as step 2 was my step 1. I did not include your step 1, but I probably should have. Your step 1 only happens once, when you upload the texture to SL. Your step 2 happens every time you log in or changes outfits." So this mean this happens not only for me, but for everyone log with one of my layers, or wear one ? So in that case, i understand better. As i said in a post before, now i understand better and i see what is the pb, i can only agree with you. I will try to make my layers 512 the more often. This mean, that i will try both versions as temporary files, first, and if there is no difference at all, or even only a tiny one, that one need to be aware to notice it, i will upload the 512 one for sure. I can't remember precisely on what texture i noticed difference, but i can find it back easily, with time, if needed but you have to understand, that i didnt choosed to upload 1024 by chance. ive tried both and on the specific texture i tried there was difference. but i can admit easily that it wont happen on all of them, and i think that the more often the difference wont be here, or wont be noticiable. So you can be sure that 90 % of the time, my next textures will be uploaded at 512 size, for being less laggy, for me, but above all for my customers and in the end for the whole sl pp. I will keep the 1024 size exceptionnally if i cant do otherwise. But i will before try the resize layer by layer method what seems really interesting btw, and if this method can fix the lil difference, i will opt for 512 here again. That way, maybe i wont need 1024 at all, or if i need, it will be really on a tiny proportion of what i upload. Im really glad that in the end, all this discussion got me to understand better how the uploading and baking works in SL. So you have all my gratitude for this :smileyhappy:
  14. ok, thanks a lot for all these explanations. Im still waiting for Chosen answer for the first part of my post where i am trying to sum up the process. im almost likely to aknowledge my mistake, and to take the decision to use 512 texture when i wont notice a too big difference. i agree on the fact that if its tiny and im the only one who see it, it maybe doesnt have too much importance then. My texture are usually having really tiny details and its normal imho, that if i notice smth noticiable for others, i keep the better way to display the details. I dont promise to reupload all my old textures bec it will be a lot of time and money, but i can take this decision for the textures i will do from now on. When explanation are clear and enough to convince me im not so studborn. :smileywink: But yes i need to understand well something before taking decision. i dont think this is a bad thing. I will, nevertheless, ask advices tomorrow in the builder brewery group for they confirm me all that you and Chosen have been teaching to me generoulsly. And then i will let you know what i will decide. Anyway i still have the possibitlity to upload my texture in the 2 sizes as temporary textures before deciding... and if i dont notice any obvious difference, its ok, i will choose the less laggy option, i mean the 512 one. Thanks for the time you took for answering and explaining to me and for your patience.
  15. Drongle McMahon wrote: "can you explain again" ... I'll try ... Now - For your avatar, all the textures get sent to you from the asset server at their original size (actually, there will often be copies in the texture cache on your hard dis, in which case they don't have to be downloaded). Your viewer then changes them to 512x512 (if they sren't already) anf uses them to make the baked textures with all the system clothing layers combined into one 512x512 image. The viewer then send that baked image back to the server whenever you become visible in a new sim. The servers send it to any other viewers that need to display you. So (ignoring the original upload) that is three trips onver the internet between clients and servers before anyone can see you. With server baking - there is a special server for making the baked 512x512 textures from the layered images. The original textures go there instead of to your client. Then the baked texture goes straight to the sim server which sends it to all the clients that need it, including yours. Now that last download is the only internet traffic needed. The other two steps happen inside the internal SL network in their server farm. As long as the capacity of the baking server is sufficient, this will remove any lag due to waiting for the internet transmissions that have been eliminated. thanks for explaining more. Your explanation is clear enough and i think i understood it. So, if the last download is the only internet traffid needed, this happen after my texture has been resized no ? So, the fact my original texture is 1024 can it still cause lag ? since i understood, the lag pb was only at the first step and not at this one ?
  16. wow, lol, the technical side + the fact its in english... its just a big headhache for me... but well, i asked and i want to try to understand. So after searching some words translations and some explanation in the SL wiki, here is what i understand. please correct me if im wrong. 1- i send the texture from my harddrive to the asset server. 2- this one send it back to my viewer (this is when my texture appears to me as a pic on my screen) 3- when i apply the texture on a outfit layer, my viewer resize the texture to 512 (surprise for me, i never suspected that was done by my viewer. And so this mean that in 1 and 2 my texture is still 1024, what makes sense since the pic is said to be 1024) 4-my viewer send the layer data to the sim server (and to the surrounding sims servers aswell)... So it does this everytime i enter in a new sim ? 5-then the sim server send the layer data to every av's viewer in the same sim than i am. (so they recieve a data from a 512 texture ?) So you say : "Step 1 is where the problem would be. " So, the problem is only when i upload the texture the first time , or everytime i will wear the same layer, already downloaded in the asset server a first time ? Then, if the pb happens only when the texture is sent to the asset server the first time, by me... and other will only recieve the data already resized to 512 from the sim server... where this can be lag, except for me when i upload and bake on the layer ? or, if this happens everytime me or one of my customers wear one of my layers, does this cause lag for only the wearers and not to the pp around that does not wear the layer and so, just recieve the data from the sim server (so already resized) ? Or do i miss something else, what is more than probable too since its something i dont know at all. About Drongle answer, i have to confess this confuse me even more. Is it the same answer ? Drongle can you explain again with less technical words (its hard to find translation for really technical words in dictionnaries even online). I notice some difference with Chosen answer and it can be translation. The part i cant translate or im not sure about my translation is this one :"the server farm instead of over the server-client link" All this is really passionating, and thanks for giving time to answer.
  17. Chosen Few wrote: You're forgetting the fact that the texture needs to be sent from the asset server to your viewer, before it can be applied to your outfit. That delivery constitutes network traffic. If the texture is 1024, it's four times as much traffic than if it's 512. See my reply to Drongle for more on this. There you go ! You are pointing here something that has all my attention. So please forgive in advance my ignorance on the topic but i need some infos about this to understand well: So if i understand well your answer to Drongle and the one just above, you mean that one time the texture has been applied on a layer and so resized to 512, everytime that someone wear it the server has to do again the resizing and send the resized version ? I doesnt resize it one time for all when its applyed on the layer ? (for the remaining of your 2 latest posts, i dont think our argue will interest anyone here, i will maybe answer you in private message, but im not sure it s worth, since i agree with you the language is a pb between us, and i would add to this on top that the writen communication doesnt help much. But just know that im always ok for real explanation like the one i quoted from you here. Lets be adult and just stay on the topic for now, so please if you can answer my questions above, ill be thanksfull to you and you would help me greatly to understand these kind of things)
  18. Thanks for you answer Kwakkelde I would have gladly send a picture before, but my weekly schedule doesnt let me a lot of time. tomorow i wont work rl, i will make snapshots and send them here.
  19. Chosen Few wrote: Coby Foden wrote: I wonder, are those results that uploading at 1024 x 1024 appear to give better result than uploading at 512 x512 imaginary results only, or is there really some noticeable difference? Our minds can do some tricks sometimes. If we are convinced that something is better than the other, then we actually might see it so with our eyes. Even though in fact there would be no difference at all. :matte-motes-nerdy: That's what I think is going on here. I didn't want to say it ourtight, because I didn't want to sound like I thought anyone was being less than intelligent about the discussion. But the truth is this (very old) argument about 1024's for garments reminds me very much of other commonly held misbleiefs that have long been rampant across SL, like "You have to flatten your image before exporting it to TGA," or "PNG's cause less lag than TGA's," or "The alpha sorting glitch is an SL bug," or "There's such a thing as an alpha layer," etc., etc., etc. To the people who believe these things, there's rarely any convincing them otherwise, no matter how many facts and technical explanations are put in front of them. Dogma is a powerful thing. ok. So even if im not the op, you came to tell me your truth about texture sizes, and i asked then an advice. You failed and didnt answered my question. Then you started to judge me saying im studborn and i dont have open mind. Now, i see things that doesnt exist and yeah... dogma is blinding me. I think you should consider some limits in the way to treat persons. you came with your know it all behavior, exposing your impressive CV but wihtout any answers . Im sorry but i need more to be conviced than just knowing this person has an impresive CV. Im not a blind follower.. im sorry. You can tell me you writed 100 books, it wont make a difference for me. Im librarian in rl, its my rl job (maybe you will intend to teach me my job too ?) and i can tell you that being writen in a book is not a proof of being a serious thing. Books are like every media... you can find interesting things in them and some silly things too. its to your critical mind to make the difference. So im sorry but without any clear answer from you i wont just trust you bec you've writen in book. You would have been the King of whatever countries it wouldnt have been different. When i try to convice someone and i fail, i use to ask myself before judging the person, if my arguments have been good enough. Obviously, humility is not your trick. You cant even answer my last question and so its so better, to just say im silly enough to trust better a dogma. You are really far from the truth.... really. I was ready to trust you about 512 size but i was expecting real arguments. And above all i wasnt expecting to be judge by someone who doesnt even know me. So im maybe wrong using 1024, but i ll wait someone who wont judge me will explain me with real arguments. You have maybe a huge knowledge about photoshop, but you fail in pedagogy and the way to explain to pp that doesnt have the same knowledge than you. Im really sad for you.
  20. ok, so dispite the fact im not the OP of this thread and so; im not the one who asked smth here, i have now a question. If my textures, that i upload as 1024 size, are resized by SL as 512 when i apply them on a layer, so, they are no longer 1024 but 512 on the layer. Is this right ? i can keep them on their 1024 size as picture in my inventory, but as soon as i apply them on a layer, the texture on the layer itself turn in 512. So how the hell can my layer cause lag, since they are not 1024 anymore ? Therefore, i can understand easily the problem for 3D objects like prims, sculpts and this is one of the reason i mostly use 512 texture on them (not the only reason btw). but i might be missing smth about the layers, bec i dont see why they can cause lag since textures are compressed by sl to 512. Then the choice of using SL or photoshop resizing owns to the creator and noone else. Then about the difference on layer, i myself made the test as Coby said yesterday, quickly. I still notice a tiny difference. Not obvious indeed and not on everything. But on selvedges made by lil tiny points, the 512 texture display them more blurry than the 1024. Ok, i may be the only one to notice it and to see it, but still, this annoy me. even if you cant give credits to the blog Coby's pointed out, you can't still deny the pics she displays. I admit, the difference is really tiny, and prob noone will notice them, but still.. i will know...
  21. well, if you want to say im studborn and not open minded, i dont mind. I know myself more than you know me and i know better than you who i am. I just allow myself to remind you that i never have judge your person. Obviously, you think you can do it with me.. ok I wont argue anymore with you. my problem is who trust ? You come here with your impressive curriculum vitae to tell me that 1024 size is wrong, but i can see often in this same forum other person with prob the same CV than you telling the contrary. Why should i trust you more than them ? On top, as i told you before, i have in my surrounding pro graphic designers that i know RL and SL who say aswell that weirdly 1024 have better render than 512. Again, who might i trust.? Do i have to tell these person that they dont know their job and are incompentent ? So on the contrary as you seems to think, im not studborn and i have my mind enough open to get every advice that are offered to me. Then, i try them and see if they are good for me. So as i told already, i will try the resize layer by layer and see if it give a good render to my textures inworld. And i will judge by myself. As for the time needed, im ok to give even more time for my items, but i wont be ok to multiply by 5 the time i already spend for somethink that, indeed, give me fun, but that is not my real rl job. I dont transform my sl in money in rl money, and with the big tier for my land and the lot of others expenses i do monthly, i still need to buy l$ with my rl money. so forgive me, but i have a life beside my secondlife, already a full time job too and i wont die in front of my laptop for perfect photoshoping. I know. we can always do better. but sometimes life give to us limits that we cant avoid. Imho, i give already a lot of care to what i do, and more than the average. About the advice i asked, if you needed more info to answer, why didnt you asked instead of giving me a non answer (play, practice, try, learn) that i didnt need you to know ? im not in your head, and im not a pro photoshoper, how did you want i guess what you needed to know ? So i prefer to stop this discussion for now. As i said already i will give a look about the resizing layer by layer when i will have time. Don't worry, even studborn, im always the first to admit my errors and if i notice that your trick give an improve to my items you will hear from me. At last, about my presence in the forum, i just remind you that i m not the op of this thread, im not the one who asked advice first . i just did when you proposed to do for me. i was expecting then a real advice and not smth i was already knowing (learn, practice, read, try). That's said, have a good day/evening.
  22. Chosen Few wrote: Trinity Yazimoto wrote: ok, i prob misunderstood your first posts. Actually, I got the impression you understood my first couple of posts pretty well, but you seem to have been thrown off a little by my latest one. I'll see if I can try to clarify. I realize there's a language barrier between us. Trinity Yazimoto wrote: you seemed to know really well about what you were talking about resizing image in photoshop. and i was just asking an advice. Yes, I have considerable expertise with Photoshop, and yes, I do realize you were asking for advice. However, the way you phrased the question seemed to imply you were looking for a universal "one size fits all" type of solution. You didn't ask which method would work best for a particular situation. You just asked which was best, in general. The point I've been trying to make is that there's nothing general about this. There cannot be a universal answer. I will stop you here right away. re-read my post then. i said what was the kind of image i wanted to resize (vendor, rectangle format, 1024X512 size) i never asked in general, but on the contrary gave details about what i wanted to do. And sorry to not post my vendors here, this is not allowed in the forum, you can see them in the mp or in my store inworld, all links are in my profile. i dont think my profile is something impossible to reach. For the remaining of your post i will keep the resize layer by layer part bec its seems indeed interesting and i will try it soon, althought im not doing art but fashion designs what makes a difference. If you are likely to reproach to me the network traffic my items needs to be load, then i think it would be fair you reproach this to tons of other creators aswell, and some really famous in SL. I also didnt waited for you to know that practice and learn are the key. This is what i always do when i want to learn smth. You didnt took time to type my name in the market place to see what im doing, btw, i did it for you and couldnt find anything. So yes, indeed its generous from you to try to share your knowledge with me. Im humble enough to aknowledge i dont have the whole knowledge... but if your only advice is : "practice and learn", thanks for it, but i didnt need anyone for knowing this before. Dont misunderstand me, i dont want to be rude or studborn in any manner, but i have around me pro graphic designers that use 1024 aswell and from who i can see items and who gives me real answers. i have also my eyes to see.. and forgive me, but i prefer to trust what i see than what sm1 i dont even know tells me. maybe its stupid, idk, but its the way i always do. And as you have been able to see, i m open mind enough, to listen advices, but well, forgive me, when its just 'practice and learn"; i dont need anyone to tell me that, i know it and practice it everyday. And about the language barrier, know that its also not easy for me to understand english, nevertheless, i spent time on it till i have the closer translation. So im sorry if my english is not perfect, but its the best i can have for now, Anyway thanks for your imput and help. i agree on the fact it s generous from you and i do appreciate.
  23. indeed Coby and thanks for your imput. my resizing image settings are already set on bicubic according to what i learnt some month ago in books. and after trying them all. But i still have the the same not satisfying result inworld, this is why i keep with 1024 size, like a lot of pro graphic designers and digital artists who use photoshop everyday in their rl work and who create in SL and from whom i can see works. I usually trust my eyes. If i resize in 512 i see my tiny selvedges bleeding or blurry, same for other lil details and for tattoos. After playing, testing, trying everything, i keep having the best results with 1024. And honnestly i dont have any pb to load the textures when im wearing my stuffs and i never heard about pb with this from any of my customers. So this is not im studborn, but i just keep the better way i found for now. I hope this is understandable. Now when someone will give me the obvious evidence i can make better, an evidence ill be able to see with my eyes, there is no worry at all.. i will of course switch to this new way. And tell my pro photoshoper friends that they are wrong with 1024 size.
  24. ok, i prob misunderstood your first posts. you seemed to know really well about what you were talking about resizing image in photoshop. and i was just asking an advice. i can agree on the fact that a painter cant ask about what brush to use (and this hasn't never been my purpose), but i disagree about resizing image tricks. Resizing an image, even in pshop, is not painting, its a technical thing. im not a beguiner, like you seem to think. i practice everyday since 3 years now,and on top of this i deed between 4 and 6 hours weekly to exclusively learn more with books and tutos without creation purpose but only for learn more. And i dont think im a button pusher... Did you even had a look at what im doing ? So well, we dont agree with you about using 512 and 1024 size but does this has a real importance ?. My customers like my products, i have fun creating then. Its enough for me. I will keep improving my pshop learning my way. like you said, i dont think there is "a best one". (edited for correcting my english)
