  1. I actually managed a spreadsheet with image previews in the sheet (which was forked from FabFree's first published draft with links), along with recommended gifts to pick up and shops to visit, plus gift card expiration dates and suggested uses. I had to keep updating it every 2 or 3 days because I realized that I missed something or a gift had changed or a shop had gotten on the "bad" list or the "good" list. I went through the entire SL20B about 10 times before everything was finally settled. Getting gifts and reviewing shops at an event shouldn't take that much effort. I did all of that work because people were saying they weren't going to look at S&H because it was too chaotic adn complicated and the items for sale and gifts were so varied in quality. It's sad that LL seems to be putting more scrutiny into people being allowed to make clothes for Senra, than they are for having shopping event standards that make the event a positive experience across the board.
  2. I used to be heavily involved in the gift/freebie scene for the purpose of helping newer players get acclimated and get their feet wet before investing. And I have OCD, which pushes me to collect everyting and put it all on display. There are reasons why my inventory is still over 300,000 elements >> It's simply not true that "a git is a gift." Putting out items for 0L that end up making people feel exhausted from inventory sorting of items they won't use turns people off from events, especially new players. It can turn them off from Second Life, too. An LM in a box is fine by me. So are gift cards with near-term expiration dates that can't fully purchase an item (though many new players won't use them because the "You don't have enough credit, click here to give this store access to your wallet" thing scares a lot of them, and I strongly recommend including a giftcard top-up button or terminal with clear instructions). If someone is going to collect a gift, they're going to collect it. Items that turn people off from stores and gradually turn people off from events and hunts and sew seeds of distrust and distate in newer residents? That's what annoys me.
  3. There's no hard and fast rule, because everything depends on context. Even in cases where someone might be upset that your views on things don't match theirs, you aren't obligated to expose things about yourself for their sake. More importantly than those facts, though, is the nature of social engagement. If you want to get to know someone in a certain way, you act in accordance with what seems suitable for that. If someone wants to get to know you in a way that you don't want to be known, you act in accordance with that. If someone wants to prioritize defense against any anger or backlash (e.g. by blocking them) that's valid. If someone wants to try trusting a person to let things go by simply saying "I don't want to" (provide certain information, go to a certain venue, or any other normal social thing that people can have differences or disagreements about), that's also valid. In every situation, choices come down to how concerned one is about self-protection/privacy and how concerned they are about how someone else feels about them. And those feelings might change from day to day or experience to experience. Social interaction is always a process of each person deciding the if, the what, the how, and the when of things they could communicate. There's no answer that anyone can prescribe, because every situation is different and the outcomes are impossible to predict with certainty. If someone doesn't want to interact with other people who don't share their views, or they don't want to interact with someone in a certain way, that's for them to state. Mindreading isn't a skill anyone has, and attempting to do it causes a lot of needless headaches for everyone. The same goes for trying to adapt oneself to the potential desires of every person or group before the group or person voices any relevant desires or views.
  4. My inventory is over 332,000 elements. Naturally, I want to sort a lot of junk out. Simply loading my inventory and finding files with search is a major pain. I'd like to be able to get a list of all of the names of folders/objects/scripts.etc in my inventory so that I can run some regex things on the results outside of SL, to pre-sort and define what I'm going to tackle first and how I'm going to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to accomplish this?
  5. I know it's some sort of error or glitch or something, but I don't know what's causing it. Sometimes the adjacent parcels won't load, and I see a section of sand around the border inside of the property. Anyone else experienced this?
  6. Well, yes. The ideal solution would be an implementation of regex, but I'm not asking for something that complex.
  7. Has there been consideration of allowing a "NOT" operator for inventory searches? For example, I want to delete all of my inventory that has "cat" in it, unless the element also has "dog" in the name. Right now, I have to carefully read adn select only the items that don't have "dog" in them. I'd like to be able to build a search query that eliminates that need.
  8. Yeah, which is why I'm asking about a gift card listing as an alternative. My service is turning pictures of SL avis into realistic images that still look very much like the avi. Sometimes that's simple and doesn't cost much, if the person doesn't have strong preferences about specifics for the final image. Sometimes because the requests are very detailed, it's extremely time-consuming and thus expensive.
  9. So, I had been given advice to make a listing on MP with a notecard about my services and pricing, selling it for 0L. What I had in the card or what category it was in got flagged as against LL policies. Am I in trouble, like a three strikes rule? Or was my listing just taken down and that's it? Also, I have been told that it's ok to sell a gift card to your store on Maketplace, and that seems to make more sense to me than selling a notecard for 50% of my service price, because my pricing varies. Can someone clarify if that would be ok under the MP policy guidelines?
  10. I know who these people are, and their UUID key is fine. This just randomly happened to a few people on my list when I logged in. Edit: Oddly, it resolved itself while I was afk. Still weird.
  11. I wish I lived in a state that would allow me to buy from a scrap yard/recycler. I would have an almost-new computer fifty times over even if I just bought individual parts.
  12. Well, my computer isn't literally exactly 10 years old, but I'm using a Radeon 6670 card. I have whitelisted exes and folders, have a huge cache allotment, and 8GB of RAM. Yes, I know I'm a bit weird having a 1TB SSD in an old machine. I make do with what I can, but I'm not using an HDD as my main drive ever again. Lol
  13. I'm running on a 10 year old PC with graphics on low + avatar cloth + show friends only. It's servicable.
  14. My first few months in SL were chaotic. I have OCD and that significantly affected how my time was spent. Not having free funds to buy things also impacted my mindset. My biggest tip for new players (and anyone else) is: Do not pick up anything that you don't love. My inventory is 190k now. I used to do tons of freebie grabs, hunts, etc. I was obsessive about it. I haven't opened the vast majority of the items I grabbed, and I don't like half of what I've opened. Related, my second biggest tip is: Make a list of the top things that you want, and limit yourself to 10 items of that type. You can have sub-types, as well. For example, I got a *ton* of jeans, because I like jeans. But I dislike most of them because of the waist on them. I should have limited myself to getting just a few very good-looking jeans with the types of waistlines I like, plus the types of leg heights for cuffs I want for shoes. Limiting your inventory isn't just about making it manageable. It's also about being able to use what you have. [Edited to add: Also, look *very carefully* at the product. Get a demo every time, because anything without a demo is a huge gamble. Advertisement pictures can hide A Lot. Be sure that it looks how you want it to up-close, from all angles, and with bending your avatar different ways.) Also, spend time looking to see if you can find an item with open Modify permissions, or one from a Full Perm shop, and then use your own textures. Very nice-looking things that you can buy will be worth buying outright because the construction work and textures are so good, but other things you might be better off making textures for yourself. Related to all of the above, buy a good mesh body. Don't waste your time buying clothes and things for a standard avatar. Most good things in SL are made for a limited number of mesh bodies. I was fortunate enough to have someone gift me the Lara body a few months in. These days you have more options because creators are making clothing for more bodies, but be sure to research if the clothes you are considering buying would fit the body that you are considering buying. Wait. I did a lot of things on impulse. From buying hunt items without knowing what they were, to joining groups and buying clothes, to snatching up expensive things (well, expensive for my limited funds) because I thought the price might go up later. Make a plan. Know what you want to get (group memberships, clothes, furniture, etc) and keep an eye on it for sales, free join days, etc. Holidays will usually have a sale of at least 20% off on some big price item things, and some free group join periods. And many pricey items get put out in limited colors for significantly reduced prices on weekend sales. Conserve group space, and track the prices of groups that you're interested in. Join fees for big groups are heavy. You'll want free spots open for any "free to join" time periods. I've joined groups during free to join times, and then left them before their free to join time ended, because I didn't know their value and other groups were temporarily free to join. I could have saved L$1000 easily by knowing the value of things. Google search Look up blogs about SL, freebie websites, video tutorials, etc. And check in with them every week or so at least.
  15. When I joined Second Life and got my annual Premium Membership I missed out on the 10% off Holiday Premium Membership sale. I left SL for RL health reasons nearly a year ago, and now I'm back and considering if I want to get premium again. I just read the fine print and noticed that I wouldn't get a 1000L signing bonus this time because I've had premium before. So, I'm especially interested to see if there will be a 10% off annual membership holiday sale this year, so that I don't miss out this time. Does anyone have any info on possible news about it?
