  1. Having combed through the "Cost of Name Changes Out of the Bag" and  "Last names nearly here - and more. Yay!" I find nothing offical to say or even hint name changes will be cheaper for the new "super" tier of premium. I also checked recent activity for Oz Linden, Keira Linden, and Grumpity Linden, names I can recall participating in these discussions.  Any further leads appreciated!

It was in the post about the name CONTEST and they (mistakenly apparently) put in that number as the value of the prize. So likely you can find it in the blog archives.  OR plenty of chatter here on the forums about it too.

Asking specifically about the idea that it will be cheaper for super premium members. I think I have followed the chatter quite closely but I  don't recall that detail.

  3. @Adeindra A recent comment from Keira Linden says they are still working through the many entries for the name change contest. The release notes linked above, showing the simulator has been updated to allow for name changes, indicate that the feature is close to ready, but there is no official word other than what you have already heard, February 2020.

  4. I've experienced this phenomenon but its not only related to AA. Bumping shadow resolution for example.  I think it's because SL doesn't actually use enough GPU to trigger the boost on my card, even on vanilla "ultra" settings. Watching in GPU-Z shows the clockspeeds jump. Overclocking likely is already in boost, so that might explain @Solar Legion's results.  I'm not confident enough in my current power supply to overclock the GPU.

  5. @JPG0809 I'm curious what GPU/CPU you have and how many FPS you get in average conditions. On the way to the point of diminishing returns, a GTX 1050-ish card is great value, imho. Or whatever similar nVidia card is around $150—a 1050, 1050ti, 1060 or 1650. Spending $500 to upgrade mine to an RTX 20-series was a bit of a disappointment. You think "Finally, SL will run smooth as silk!" but it doesn't, not in crowded clubs and shopping events. So "yes" is one answer to the original question: SL does have its limits. But if you're only getting say 20FPS in empty regions, there is a lot of room for improvement. Definitions of "good enough" clearly have huge variation.

It just really annoys me when people insinuate that the criticism of this body is due to being a “hater”

I agree, it's one of my pet peeves in fashion. Especially since I mostly come across it with products I actually like and *want* to wear, lol.  I guess of all the "parts" in SL, bodies and heads are the ones we most identify with, so criticisms tweak us differently than a t-shirt glitching through a sweater or whatever. But it's not personal!

  7. Re: lack of Legacy sightings in the wild. I think the perception of its ascendancy is in no small part driven by bloggers and photographers who never leave their platforms, except maybe to hit up shopping events?

I agree that Lara/Legacy is taking off as a popular rigging. I’m sure for creators it’s not simply market share but the type of consumer who is likely to own the body. They SHOP.

Generally speaking though, (don’t @ me!!!) it is amazing how half-baked products take hold in the market and inspire such devotion. It’s the shape of the mesh I suppose, everything else can be excused. I guess I get that, she said, standing on a platform checking out her own butt.

So, does retaining alpha cuts mean also retaining at least one "onion layer"? If so, that at least partially defeats the point of BOM, which was to reduce complexity.

So, yes, looks like at this point Slink Redux will be the only philosophically pure BOM body. But v5 of Lara appears to do a decent job of meeting halfway while continuing to provide functionality (alpha cuts) MANY of its users will want for some time. Removing 3 layers (tattoo, underwear, and clothing) and making them separate and detachable is not a bad compromise. Better than what I expected. Documented here: https://sl-maitreya.blogspot.com/p/layers-page.html

  9. I honestly think the focus on complexity here (the forums) gives us a skewed impression of what the average resident cares about. Lots of people were aksing for one piece body so they can have more attachment points! More stuff , more complexity, more triangles, more more more !!!

Based upon that, I thought an update is something we must do, I can be wrong, but isn't that what it means?

The company they used for auto-updates has gone out of business. This was stated by moderators in the Lara Friends group.  So, if they didn't put out this update HUD Maitreya Isle would probably be full for weeks.

And based on that it sounds like people who don't want to update will be able to carry on without interruption.

  11. Some things to know. First: gacha is a type of item, not a brand. They come from machines that give a random reward each time you put some small amount of L$ in. The "best" prizes are generally the rares. Prices vary greatly from sellers on the marketplace—gacha are tradeable and can be re-sold.  That is why looking at the offerings may be confusing as they are from random people, not the brands themselves. Since the Milli (product) head from VCO (creator) came out over three years ago, there are only a few rare heads available at crazy, inflated prices.

Honestly, there is nothing particularly unique about that head, imho. For those prices you could get any number of modern mesh heads which would offer infinitely more choice for skins and makeup, better HUDS, animations, the list goes on. Some of the biggest, most supported brands to investigate would be: Catwa, Genus, LAQ, and Lelutka.A less expensive option like the Utilizator "Normie" head (L$500) would be also be a far better way to dip your toes into avatar creation. There are many other brands I am not super familiar with, especially on the cheaper end, so maybe others will offer suggestions. Gacha heads with limited options, baked in makeup, outdated HUDs, I dunno. I think it would be frustrating. Better to have options. Then get a skin from VCO and you'd be well on your way. Good luck!

So let's say my avatar is named 'TheRealDonaldTrump' and I want to change that...

I sign up for premium and then ALSO pay to change it to 'TheReal Donald'...

    Then I unsub from premium...

  13. This really only happens (to me) in clubs so I usually just say “sorry I gotta go!” But I don’t really have to go, do I? So I walk away and continue with my night. Sometimes I might TP to the landing point and re-enter. This is a corollary to one of my biggest pet peeves: the person who immediately comes over and stands on your toes because you responded politely to their IM.

I believe it was maitreya CSR who said that auto-alpha/alpha cuts will continue to work as they did and even better, when maitreya releases an update.

Yes, have heard this several times in the Maitreya group. It seems clear they won't be getting BoM "right" in the way purists are hoping. It will take all major creators getting everything about BoM right--and every resident adopting it--to move the needle in a truly significant way. And they won't. And LL will never adopt a stance that makes it imperative. But incremental gains are good too! If you only hang out with "good citizens" or whatever maybe it will make a huge difference. Long story short, upgrade your computers.

  15. @Pussycat Catnap Back of napkin math: Belleza in entirety = 520k triangles. Lara in entirety (body + hands x2 + feet) 221k triangles. Try it and see for yourself. Anyone interested can verify. The 2.5x heavier number that is thrown around includes all the attachments.

Edited to add: When I think about Project ARCtan and what it would mean to me personally, were it a resounding success, my guess is about 10 FPS. I'll upgrade my system before that even happens. And unfortunately most residents are probably as self-centered (wearing Belleza constantly anyway) as I am. Sorry!

  16. The idea that Belleza has done it "right" so far while being one of the worst offenders for massive triangle counts is an interesting one. I admire your optimism that they will suddenly move to the forefront of optimized continent and concern for the weight of their mesh. May you prove to be right, I love the Belleza body!
