  1. They just need actual enforcement of the existing rules that were put in place last time we had child avatar panic. Get rid of content that is clearly aimed at sexualising children. Don't do stupid stuff like put your store selling toddleedoo beds on the same adult sim as a shop selling sex animations. Existing policy is fine, it simply needs to be implemented.

If, however, you personally consider "blog posts" to be serious journalism as a general rule, more power to you.

I really don't, but print media was unlikely to be interested in a 30-page infodump about a virtual world even if they weren't concerned about it getting them sued for libel, so here we are.

In this case, since the origin of the whole affair is (as Brad references) a "blog post", I certainly do not hold it against LL for not providing a detailed "action plan".

Out of interest, where would the dossier need to be published for you (or anyone else) to take it seriously? Pretty much all of what passes for journalism in SL is blog-based.

Not really, it was the institutional dysfunction which enabled the excesses.

People in positions of power are historically not great at introducing checks and balances which would inhibit the exercise of that power. Did anyone in SL's first twenty years of existence stop to ask who would govern the governors?

IMHO Brad's statement is more confusing to 99% of the SL residents than anything.

99% of SL residents never read the official blog or these forums, so that's fine.

The remaining 1% who are Very Online i.e. they read SL blogs, have a couple of inworld group chats enabled, used to read Virtual Secrets etc. have known about all this for three weeks now, and been clamoring for some kind of official statement. Now they have one. And anyone who's just stumbling upon it now... well, Google is your friend.

    Next up: Trivia Question!

Why do they refer to what I assume is the legacy Linden Homes" as the "L1 Homes"?

It's shorter than 'legacy Linden Homes'?

Great to have options for the stores but a headache for us consumers having to check the various redelivery options.

The last thing consumers need is to be at the mercy of a monopoly. Nobody wants the entire economy grinding to a halt whenever one provider's servers start playing up.

Muniick have been on MD for a while. They refund you if you try to buy the same thing twice, which is very helpful for packrats with poor memories.

IMHO the problem with the Chalet theme is that the houses are to big and so the LI allowance isn't really sufficient to decorate it detailed enough according to the standards of today.

I once rolled two chalets next door to each other and it was great. I left one house unfurnished and used its prims for the garden of the other one. Sadly this was a very short-term arrangement as I needed to downgrade one of the alts, but having a driveway complete with car was quite the luxury while it lasted.

So a double-primmed 1024 would work better for me than a 2048, though I realise that's even less likely to happen.

Btw, LL needs to update the info on the Linden Home pages. There's no mention of the treehouses for the Fantasy Homes.

Maybe there are hobbit homes on the way and they'll update when those are released?

With over 2500 empty Chalet parcels, I'm starting to come around to the idea of converting some of them to 2048 m parcels with a couple new house styles.

Would this even be possible though? Would the LDPW be able to convert 2 existing 1024 m parcels in existing regions into one 2048 m parcel?

I think the main issue here is that none of the existing 1024's are actually adjacent; they all have Linden land surrounding them. So in order to join them you're going to have to make the easement into a small Linden parcel, join it up with the other two, carve a replacement microparcel off your new larger parcel to get that back down to 2048 and then merge it back into the rest of the Linden land. Obviously your new 2048 is going to have the parcel centre in a completely different place to your previous two so you're going to need to re-landscape with a new mailbox, new walls/paths/hedges/plants... And now it looks weird surrounded by 1024's so you're going to have to alter at least half of those in the immediate vicinity in exactly the same way. This is a boring task that can't be automated, and the Moles are not going to be spending time and energy on it when they could be rolling out desirable new 2048's.

  11. If you're planning on gettng a Zooby baby, you may want to consider their LoveMomma body, purely because it's so well-integrated and shape changes etc. are all done for you. Not much clothing around, but how much do you really need in terms of maternity wear? My alt just bummed around in tunics and BOM leggings.

If on the other hand you want to avoid that whole money pit of an ecosystem, just pick your favourite between Legacy and Reborn. I wouldn't worry too much about future-proofing as there's enough existing inventory to keep you going for years.

  12. I think we are probably due new floorplans for the logs, given that we still only have four options there, and I'd also add a couple of single-story styles. Chalets have a bunch of styles already, but it'd be nice to have more exterior texturing options, like the Newbrookes have. Maybe thatching and masonry would tempt a few people back? I feel like they overbuilt because of the massve demand for previous themes, and then for various reasons people just didn't click with them. I have a soft spot for Chalets myself, but I can't settle in one when there's the prospect of a seaside Trad or Vic out there. I can't see how you fill them without either shutting down the old LH continents or opening them up to Basic Plus subscribers, to be honest.

  13. If you're not involved in fashion photography/blogging/roleplay you can wear whatever you like; no need to give up all your favourite outfits just because they're a few years old. There's nothing to stop you reverting to Hourglass when you're off duty and reserving Legacy for new clothes and/or hanging out with judgey fashionistas. In practice, most people outside the fashion world won't notice or care exactly which mesh body you're using, as long as you're wearing one.

I will bid adieu to "Bellevaria", which IMHO is just the cleverest name ever lol, in favor of "Chalets"

I like Bellevaria better than Chalets, for what's it's worth, and certainly much more than anything involving nonexistent Alps.

  15. I've used Lelutka, Logo, Catwa, and Akeruka gift heads on the male Meshbody Classic without issue. I have yet to find a decent male head that is permanently free, so those who can't or won't spend out on them should probably join the groups and make do with Altamura or Senra until the next giveaway.

  16. Sooo... my Valentina got delivered, and this MM version doesn't appear to be BOM out of the box, though the L$250 Atenea fix works fine. Instead, it comes with the Atenea alpha huds and some random BOM underwear, lol. No instructions on how to enable BOM either, so I suppose they are just assuming everyone who grabs this body already has Atenea.

Which is disappointing, but then the first rule of free is don't complain about free, however poorly labelled it might be.

  17. Lucybody are giving away a second body, Valentina, on their MM board (free group needed). Unlike Atenea, this one comes with BOM enabled, and I'm assuming it's a Valentine special so only available for a limited time.

I'd like to see the southeast quadrant of Zindra filled in. There's a hole where four roads dead-end and, if you cam off-sim, you can see the raw edge of the world. The western edge of Bay City has a similar raw edge. Both of those would be high-value real estate if created, and it would be interesting to see how they are used.

Land barons would buy them, and set them for sale/rent at stupid prices. No great mystery there, though it would certainly be more aesthetically pleasing if all the unfinished continents were completed. Perhaps if Nascera went Atlantis they'd finally have the resources to do so?

If the Lindens were to experiment with more restrictive covenants for mainland, those areas would need to be physically separate from existing mainland, or enforcement would be a nightmare. Actually enforcement would be a nightmare anyway, which is yet another reason why it won't happen.

  19. Stop trying to make urban happen, it's not going to happen. If you want to live in a city apartment, grab a chalet and chuck one of the many, many low-prim skyboxes on MP up there, then make a list of deserted RP sims to teleport to when you want to go outside. Done.

I too thought cottages would have made a cute 512, but there's not much call for 512s and I don't know whether the Americans ever mastered the art of thatching, so they seem unlikely.

That New Orleans townhouse is not a million miles from the ersatz chateaux I was posting in the other thread. I can see them doing something like that and calling it 'French'.

At the moment, they all look like freshly built retro-Med show homes from a "new build" housing development.

Yes, because that's what they are.

Worn and distressed texturing is awesome on individual houses. It doesn't work on estates where every other home would be looking like it had 'decayed' in the exact same way -- cracks in the same places, plaster crumbling away in the same pattern. Add to that the fact that distressed textures are, for the most part, significantly larger files than a basic stucco, and exterior shells are the only practical option for the look you want.

(I think I like these better than the ranches.Oh dear.)
