So you're saying that someone who wants to run a bot (who you are scared of may be a bad actor) and has to decide between a) not registering it and getting it potentially banned after x days and b) registering it to have the recent restrictions apply plus additionally to pay money for it is going to opt for 2)? And those people who opt for 2 they better think about what they do? I have a really hard time following that train of thought.

I'm saying that somebody who refuses to pay for scripted agent status would automatically be a bad actor. So anything that's a roaming bot without that status gets dealt with like any other griefer, along with all its alts. And yes, if you've paid for your bot of course you're going to use it more responsibly than someone rolling a dozen free alts a day (in part because the new restrictions will force you to.)

It's not a perfect solution by any means, but hey, it'd bring in a little bit of extra cash for the Lab and make it much easier for residents to distinguish between reputable users and random trolls.

  2. I've suggested before that making scripted agent status a perk of premium (or even basic plus) membership would help with regulation as well as offsetting the costs of such regulation. People are substantially more likely to think about what they're doing if they have to pay for it.

Parcel-level restrictions would be nice to have, but at this point I think we just have to accept that Mainland is the Wild West and if you don't want bots, you'll either have to fine-tune your orbs or opt out of all the networks manually. Or move.

Same applies to Belli. It's a gated residential community and the landlords have decided it's not the place for bots. I expect they weighed up the number of ARs they were getting up against the number of residents who were running bots, and decided in favour of the larger of the two.

Again I'm going to use myself to speak for a larger crowd- my own bots were ever only ever used to make my life easier performing very specific tasks via my direct input, and never collected data at all. If I ever bring them out of retirement (or for others that use theirs like I used to use mine), why am I being told I need to improve my behavior because someone laughed at you on the forums? Why should my own alts be banned from my own parcel?

Because other bot users ruined it for you. It sucks. I'm sorry. But you still have the option of Mainland (or even one of the old 512 Linden Homes, which is basically the same thing at this point, covenant-wise.)

Most of those so-called "acting badly" don't really know, in the majority of cases we are discussing, that what they are doing is "wrong". Similar to most people we may call "bad", "mean", or even "evil" don't consider themselves as such. I'm willing to give them a break, but not my data.

I do actually agree that Those Who Must Not Be Named are not actively evil, just fundamentally... unserious? By which I mean that they seemed to get a lot more enjoyment out of the drama than they would have done had they actually been trying to accomplish something useful, rather than just trolling everyone.

Of course, if they were anything like as clever as they thought they were they'd have been able to think through the implications of what they were doing, including the possible impact on legitimate bot owners, but they couldn't be bothered. Easier to blame everyone else for being 'paranoid'.

Sparkle, I know this resident from Twitter, and I can confirm that they are not associated with BB. (Unless they've been hiding it very well!)

OK, I'll take your word for it.

I think the problem is honestly that all these 'asking forgiveness is better than asking for permission' techbros sound the same to me, combined with BB's previous tactic of taking socks out of the freezer to get these threads locked. And further illustration of my point that other people's bad behaviour does make it difficult for others in the same field.

(Which I still think is the fault of those behaving badly, rather than those at the receiving end, but yeah, it's always easier to blame dumb non-techies for everything, right?)

From what I understand, they made efforts to try and reach out and explain this and resolve concerns, but past a certain point an assumption of threat acts as a filter to anything they tried to say.

Since you're such an expert on BB, can I take it you also understand that their decision to use a bunch of alts to get previous threads on this topic derailed and shut down made it extremely difficult to assume good faith on your their part?

Or is that purely the fault of everyone else assuming the worst when they come across an obvious sockpuppet?

Actually based on responses of people who maintain BonnieBots in this thread, they did actually talk to LL about it and did have the go ahead from what I understand.

I'm sure they mentioned the traffic tracking to someone at LL, yes. Whether they ran the entirety of their operation by them is not at all clear, let alone whether they consulted with anyone who actually specialises in privacy stuff. Given the amount of data that subsequently vanished from the site, it seems doubtful.

If they'd had the sense to remain within their traffic-tracking remit then most of the 'botphobia' could have been avoided. Instead, they did the usual techbro thing of doing what they could without stopping to question whether they should.

I have done the same thing over a similar time period. However, that is irrelevant. Her bots, along with mine and all the other responsible bot owners, are getting swept away by all the botphobia. No exceptions, regardless of the owner's reputation or the purpose of the bots.

Well, that's what happens when others deploy bots irresponsibly and chuck all the data they can find up on a website without bothering to run it by residents, LL, or legal counsel first; not to mention the idiots with two dozen zombies parked on a platform in the sky. If they can't play nicely, nobody gets to play at all. Seems to me that careless bot runners are significantly more to blame for the situation in which you now find yourself than the residents who got tired of their Linden Home parcels getting invaded n times a day.

So instead of giving actual parcel control to the PAYING MEMBERS you give in to a few people crying and take away the ability for EVERYONE to have a bot at their Linden Home.

Judging by the number of landowners in Bellisseria (and elsewhere) who haven't mastered basics such as build permissions or autoreturn, LL probably thought giving them more options they don't understand was a waste of time. Bellisserians are already heavily restricted in terms of breedables, and commercial activity is banned altogether, so quite why anyone would ever have thought it was a suitable location for a bot farm is beyond me.

Some people prefer to work weekends so they can do things during the weekday.

Also, since SL is a leisure activity for the majority of residents, I'd expect there to be more support requests at weekends, rather than fewer. Certainly if I was in that situation I'd rather deal with them as they come in, rather than fielding a backlog of impatient customers on Monday.

Prediction: There will be a "Game of 2048" at least as annoying as the "Game of Homes".

PP users snarfing up, trading, etc. the new 2048 homes as if they are collector's edition Barbie dolls.

Yeah, but I very much doubt there will be enough to overwhelm support, particularly since requests per avatar are limited. There will inevitably be PP+ subscribers who choose to stay in 1024's, just as there are Premiums who have chosen to remain in 512's, having used their spare tier elsewhere or just being change-averse.

It mostly depends on the speed of the roll-out, but LL have enough experience launching new themes by now that they ought to be able to strike some kind of balance between people auto-refreshing day and night and having entire continents half-empty. They know what's popular and what isn't, they can make better predictions than we can about how much demand there is actually going to be, and they can plan accordingly.

  12. LL know perfectly well that when they do unveil the 2048s, most premium plus members won't care (they already have their own private regions and homesteads) and the remainder will want to know why they couldn't just have a double-primmed Victorian instead. Meanwhile, it's better to refund a handful of unhappy customers than to rush through something that nobody will be happy with.

They will rapidly run out of usernames if they don't.

Obvious way to open up tons of new namespace: retire 'Resident' and replace with a new default surname, something equally bland like 'Citizen' or 'Avatar' or 'Metaversian', keeping 'Resident' as a paid option for those who don't like last names.

Yeah, ideally they'd go back to free last names for everyone, but I imagine they want to preserve their new-ish revenue stream.

  14. 'Completion' and 'release' are very different things, and, given that people who invested in PP solely for the 2048 Linden homes have already been offered some form of refund/compensation in this very thread, it's probably safe to say that the latter is some way off. They may well want to finish building out all the existing themes first, or even shut down the old homes to free up resources. SL20B is a major project in itself, so while we might get a reveal then, I wouldn't hold my breath for a release.

hmmm mama persephone body, this look like pregnant woman

I have the persephone; it's a skinny body with a pregnancy belly and minimal clothing support. There is no point getting it unless you're roleplaying a Zooby pregnancy.

In my experience Erika fattens up more realistically than Freya, which has a more pronounced waist, but as others have pointed out Freya is much easier to dress. I'd avoid June as it's old, unsupported, and the creator apparently made it for lolz.

  16. If you come across an avatar or product which you think is violating the ToS, then the correct thing to do is file an abuse report.

If it turns out not to be violating the ToS, nothing is stopping you from blocking that avatar or refusing to buy the product in question because it conflicts with your personal moral code.

If you're trying to get some kind of pedohunt together, you came to the wrong forum. You're looking for the one with the postcards of unreadable text :)

  17. Yeah, Blueberry is more like the Gap or Old Navy of SL than the Gucci or Chanel. I'm really not enough of a fashionista to tell you where to find the latter, though I might start the search with Baiastice, Giz Seorn,  maybe ISON? Similar price point to Blueberry, but definitely more couture-ish in terms of branding:

If this is what you meant (and even if it isn't) I second the suggestion to head for Seraphim. The more directional/editorial stuff will generally get an event release, and you can preview everything on their site lag-free.

I also wouldn't have access to the sculpt maps for things like the logs in the fireplaces, bushes, or any other features I would like to add.

Again, I think there's a general reluctance to encourage the continued use of sculpties. Plenty of heavily-discounted third-party stuff still on Marketplace, though, if you're that determined to avoid mesh.

    14 hours ago, Istelathis said:

Plus there are scripts in all of the homes to change the textures.

Which is a major reason why LL are getting rid of them; texture changing is done via an obsolete external server which they'd like to shut down already, so those scripts aren't going to work even if they give you the build. You'd have to insert your own texture-changing scripts, even assuming the homes were moddable.

Honestly, at this point I think LL would prefer to consign them to history entirely; but if they're going to claim eminent domain over parcels that have been inhabited for over 13 years then, yeah, a handful of heritage sims and a few freebies doesn't seem too much to ask by way of compensation. OK, so they've already spent the past three years doling out entire lovely new continents of compensation, but there hasn't been a whole lot for sculpty aficionados in there.

(I'd actually love to know whether any v.1 homes have been held since day 1, since it seems to me that early adopters gonna early adopt, and also 13 years is a loooong time.)

With the possibility of a mole or linden reading this thread, can you please leave some of the first generation homes packaged for us to use on our mainland parcels(or Bellisseria sky platforms), perhaps have some put in the Molemart for people to grab who feel a bit nostalgic or just enjoy the design.  Also the various textures, sculpt maps, etc.

You know the textures are still available at the infohubs for each theme, right? You could probably knock together a Meadowbrook or Tahoe clone with those and some basic building skills; but I wouldn't bank on the Lindens encouraging people to bung vintage 100+li prim houses into the skies of Bellisseria, because mesh exists now.

I'm all for keeping a few sims of older homes around for history buffs and those who wish they still lived in 2009, but I do think they need to remain in their original landscaping for that to work. (Naturally I would also fill these showhomes with pre-mesh furniture, and when I say 'fill', I mean 'install a bed, a sofa, some poseballs and a profile picture on the wall.')

  20. They're probably waiting till the new welcome areas are finished to launch the new avatars, and when I made my last alt a few weeks back they didn't look especially close to being done. I'd be surprised if anything happened before Easter.

  21. Yes; grab the free Genus and wear it around while you're demoing other heads, kind of like a practice head to familiarise yourself with HUDs and animations and stuff.

Be aware that older AK heads (the ones with numbers rather than names) are not EvoX compatible. I got caught out last time they were on sale.
