  1. I was in those groups until recently, and I don't recall over the past year seeing any opportunities for group members or brands to apply to participate, or offer a gift. The linked post invitation from January above refers only to entering photos, and questions for interviews. Mostly of late the 'community' groups are being moderated very hard, as one can imagine now that their inner workings have become public. There is always someone ready to stomp on any member considering anything close to 'free speech' on subjects of concern to our virtual world as a whole. There are a small number of residents who seem to have attained moderator in many of the large community groups (not only Belli groups), and they are not afraid to silence reasonable relevant comment if it is on a subject contrary to their own benefit. Don't get me wrong, building 4 regions is a pile of work. I do not envy the time involved to make it. A community event that is by the community, for the community, can only be a good thing. But a community event on 4 regions of free LL sponsored land should be just that - open to the community. If there were ways to join in, they should have been made a lot more visible.
  2. You should maybe check if you have selected the 'zero' level of Land Tier, on your SL dashboard look for Land Manager > Land Use Fees If you are sure you have no land, make it look like this then click the Save button https://gyazo.com/fe1dfb3e7a6165f5542dc65f06e616f7 The billing does go in a month cycle, but it is calculated as you highest land use during that period, so if the timing is tricky it can end up that you get billed a month even though you only used it a day.

  9. You have to ask for a tile that exists - so when you zoom you have to calc which zoomed tile you need. So your coords at zoom 1 (1 region only) : https://map.secondlife.com/map-1-1127-1071-objects.jpg The next zoom level 2, shows 4 map tiles in one image, but your tile is not at the bottom left of it, tile 1126,1070 is bottom left so thats what you have to ask for : https://map.secondlife.com/map-2-1126-1070-objects.jpg The next zoom level 3, shows 16 tiles at https://map.secondlife.com/map-3-1124-1068-objects.jpg Level 4 is at https://map.secondlife.com/map-4-1120-1064-objects.jpg and so on...
  10. Thanks all for the details - it is making more sense to me now too Changing speed and rates was making differences to my flickering but I guess it may well come down to a mix with my viewer frame rate as well at some point. My best looking static ribbon is indeed with a long particle lifespan, so now I get it that this puts more particles in the line, and as such the last particle is smaller to minimize flicker. 👍 Though with lots of particles in the ribbon, I then come back to target pos mask having a lot of 'slack', so maybe I will need to linear mask instead, to cope with the speed my object goes. I am not in-world to try it, but would it be correct to say this about a targeted ribbon? (burst count / burst rate) * max age = number of particles in the ribbon distance in metres to travel / max age = speed of particles in m/s
  11. Got any hints for the setting to stop the ribbon flickering at the target? Wiki says it joins the particles at their edges, but I can't seem to get the last particle to actually hold steady at the target so its like the string is flickering for the last half metre. I have tried more/less particles, more/less burst rate, more/less age, but am not getting anywhere edit : the target is closest to me, so it's not culling by distance or size
  12. Since reading this thread I was having a play with ribbon particles, and now I have a question So I made a thing on a string, where the thing moves around fairly quickly, while anchored to a fairly static thing (me). I set ribbon with a target by uuid of the moving thing. With PSYS_PART_TARGET_LINEAR_MASK set it is a very tight string which is ok, but I would rather have a little sag in it. So I have been trying out PSYS_PART_TARGET_POS_MASK which does give that kind of effect, but it is too slow to keep up with the moving object so it looks a bit like crazy elastic chasing the object. I have been tinkering with the other stuff and watching the effect, but can't find settings that targets the position a bit more efficiently. So I wondered what am I missing, or is target pos mask just not meant to be speedy?
  13. I have had this randomly also, in the end I added some to my timer to llStopSound that would fire after the sound would have played out once. I also had an infuriating sound repeat, that everything played twice. I was tearing my hair to find it. Then I realised I had a testing alt online as well - two viewers open, two of everything....doh!
  14. @elleevelyn thanks, some interesting thoughts, I have some other projects that calculate slope angles and indeed I can check against known performance. The reducing of on board motor then checking afterwards to see if speed remains, this is a nice one, I shall have some more experiments! The track changes every week, hopefully thats enough to make it not worthwhile mapping it to run with keyboard macro stuff. And agreed, connection ping is a factor, I used to be faster myself so either I get worse with practice, or I need a new provider! (or move nearer the server!) @Fenix thanks, yes we are already using the STATUS_BLOCK_GRAB_OBJECT at true, after one of our other members who also makes things pointed out to me. Pushes on the avatar do not appear to pass on to a physical object they are sat on, but can act directly at the physical object itself. We race in several places - some of which we don't have the ability to set the land as no-push, which obviously makes it harder to control. @Xiija that is a very thorough solution! Extreme, but thorough
  15. We have a vehicle racing community where we give all participants identical no-mod vehicles, with the aim that for the most part the physical performance for each racer is the same. Mostly everyone is in the good spirit of the event and people practice like crazy to learn the racing line to perform in the races, but just occasionally a result will suggest an external force may be involved.... such as a speed enhancing HUD. The vehicle uses the lsl vehicle system motors for propulsion, it slows for uphill, and will gain speed downhill, by the nature of whatever is the angle of the road surface. It is a physical object that you sit on. I script the vehicle, so can make changes to it as required, arrange external communication with other objects, etc. I have been doing a bunch of experiments to analyse normal performance vs external influence, both from within the vehicle script and with freestanding detection objects, with mixed results! So I wondered has anyone else done similar and if so how did you go about it? also welcome any suggested methods of detection.

  22. The SLCF serves to promote cycle racing in Second Life We hold races weekly, and provide free bikes to all participants. Easy to get started, but harder to master than you might expect! Come and join us for some fun racing around the grid, it's all free and really accessible. The SLCF was founded by Bill Jobs, and his passion got us all into this. Bill is absent from SL now, but we have re-made the group in order to carry on the Federation he started. Join our new group (paste this into SL chat) : secondlife:///app/group/d3637c77-1f5f-cb8b-14e6-c0b552cb9532/about Our next race will be on Saturday at 2pm SLT. Location will be our home track alpine road at Breakaway region : http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Breakaway/210/121/1999 Get the current free Drafting Bike here : http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Breakaway/129/187/1999 (you can also pick up a free Fixie Bike at the Rebel Riders track here : http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Edelweiss/45/35/1324 ) These are the bikes that Bill set up for us before his absence, so they are our only choices right now - BUT a new SLCF bike is being worked on! hopefully ready to race in the next week or so It is made from parts of Bill's original bikes with some script updates to add ideas we had discussed in the past. And yes, that will bike be free too
  23. As the OP is referring to policies, it seems there are two types of privacy to consider : the important RL stuff on which an account is founded, and then a modicum of in-world privacy of the land we own, groups we are in, and the things we do or buy. We can look up each others profiles in world, by a name on ownership or creator of an object, a land owner, or an avatar nearby. What we put in that profile should only be things we are happy to share, like it has been forever, though perhaps now it should be made clearer to all whether it can be expected that such information might be taken outside of SL, perhaps by defining such in the appropriate policy. Banning bots or the removal of the script tools that allow us to interact with the world will break thousands of objects. Probably tens of thousands. Don't go there, else we might as well pack up and go play xbox. Maybe the function that shows account level could have a review though if it is upsetting a lot of residents. So if the bot policy gets an overhaul, then perhaps it needs a section on respecting in-world privacy, and the publishing of data externally without consent, which it seems is what most people are upset about.
  24. I'm just going to leave these here.... Suzanne Vega's Guitar, by Robbie Dingo Watch The World, by Robbie Dingo From around 2006 / 2007, and still inspirational.
  25. Peace and love peoples we must also remember that not everyone has the same level of grammatical skill, and things like dyslexia and similar conditions do exist..... Yes, I had to spell check dyslexia.
